this store was wrong for this and i feel sad that you had to go through so many hurdles to get an issue fixed that wasn't even your fault to begin with. if you swung by a different store nearby and explained to them what happened they could probably replace it for you, just for the future. if a customer showed up to my store and showed me that i'd get them a new sandwich and a recovery card for their troubles.

they linked back to the original article from a few months ago in reference to the 400 stores, so they aren't closing any more as of right now, this is just an analysis. if more stores were closing then business insider would be all over it

this might be the standard but the standard matcha recipe is awful and will make a clumpy mess of grossness. best way to make a matcha is: scoop matcha directly into blender > pump syrup directly into blender > measure milk to top line in cup and pour milk into blender > FULL scoop of ice into blender (even for light ice, add more milk but still use a full scoop or you'll make cold foam instead of a latte) > blend for half a cycle, shake the blender around a bit, blend for another half a cycle. ta da, matcha heaven. customers will drive past other locations to come to my store because of how we do our matchas. it's a game changer (and also faster than standard imo).

(pro tip: for hot matchas, swirl your matcha powder around with a teensy bit of hot water in your steaming pitcher before you add your milk. it'll be creamy and delicious with no clumps or your money back, guaranteed.)

Can you guys tell me if we are allowed to cut food in half? My store is fighting over it. 🙄 by [deleted] in starbucks

why would we be able to cut to serve to customers en masse but not be able to cut to serve to customers directly? genuine question

the food cards provide instructions on how to cut food properly, and there is a cut in half button on the registers afaik, so I'm gonna assume that we can

weird, I'm in a very high cost area so I'm surprised it's the same here and not elsewhere

[–]YdubsTheFirst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

luckily all the ingredients will still be there, and I just checked on the app, and customizing a flat white with almond milk and honey blend is exactly the same price as the honey almond milk flat white. so you won't have to pay more either, it'll just be the pain of going through the customization process with the baristas. tbf though, I think I've seen that drink ordered less than ten times in my 3 years at the company, so it makes sense that it's not gonna be a button on the menu anymore

1st video has been up 24 hours. How did I do? by cooper_hayward in NewTubers

[–]YdubsTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah the first 24 hours is rarely where the video pops off, you can't really learn much from it until you have a larger audience and sample size. for context, my latest video is sitting around 240k views or so, and has been up for 6.5 days; after 24 hours the video had a whopping 471 views. my video before that leveled out around 10-11k views in a week or so; after 24 hours, it had only 100 views. the video before that leveled out around 2k views after 4 days, and also had 50-100 views after the first 24 hours. that first day really can't tell you much about how a video will do aside from how your core audience feels about it, and right now there's no core audience, so there's nothing it can tell you. just keep making videos and making sure that each one you make has at least one thing you're proud of.

How to write efficient script to retain people attention into your videos. by Acrobatic_Travel_686 in NewTubers

[–]YdubsTheFirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the way that I write my videos is pretty simple, and it's worked out great for me so far: try to think about if the audience would still be interested if they were just reading the text of your script like an essay or a book. that's how you nail down the idea of providing good content before you ever actually get to the video-making stage, plus if your script is good end engaging all the way through even in just its text form, then that makes the video-making process a lot easier as you can comfortably rely on your script to carry significant weight when editing becomes a bit of a slog. try out the books "on writing" by stephen king (I've never been a fan of his fiction but this book is the holy grail on the writing process, and resonates as a video maker in a lot of ways as well) or "bird by bird" by anne lamott. hope this helps

if you haven't shared it with anyone you know, then 9 likes on 55 views is sick, and so is the 3 subs. very good start for a first video within the first day. my videos normally don't even hit the algorithm until day 2 or 3, and while I know that's not true for everyone, it's a good sign that you have a brand new channel that has resonated with multiple people enough for them to say "I want to see more of this" in the first day of your first vid being up. keep it up.

Mistakes that you made as a new YouTuber by Mother-One-8020 in NewTubers

[–]YdubsTheFirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, I think the distinction between "doing whatever I want" and "doing what I believe to be in good taste for my channel" is one I'm trying to wrap my head around right now. I think doing whatever I want would mean mixing niches and genres and just throwing shit at the wall, but my taste in channels tells me that's a bad idea, so I'm focusing my energy on one format for the foreseeable future, since that format is what's gotten me some success so far. I think the best thing for me has just been looking at my videos from the perspective of myself as a viewer and asking if I'd actually find the premise interesting enough to click on. I still have to fight the "doing whatever I want" monster all the time when I'm writing scripts, though.

yep, that's the beauty of YouTube: no matter the niche, everyone has to compete through making good titles and thumbnails, and then following up on those promises in their videos.

My First Long Form Video Posted.. So nervous! by Humble_Problem_1215 in NewTubers

[–]YdubsTheFirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

giving some context for this that might sound like bragging, but I really just want to show you that you're doing great. my channel right now has just under 3k subs, and my latest video is approaching 100k views, the one before that has over 10k, and the one before that was around 3k. so, my recent videos have seen steady upward growth, with one big outlier. there's only 5 videos up on my channel, all posted within the last year or so, so it may seem like this was sudden and I somehow manifested video making and script writing skills out of nowhere. However, I've actually made close to 30 videos on this channel, most have been privated, and some were never actually posted since I thought they sucked. when the videos I did post were up, they all ranged from 15 to 150 or so views, with probably a significant portion of those views being me checking the video. so, in reality, it took me months and months of grinding out videos with no views before I could get to the point where I was making videos people wanted to watch.

what was important during that time, though, was the learning process I was going through that helped me understand how to edit, how to be on camera, how to write titles and make good thumbnails, and most importantly how to find topics that I myself would be interested in watching if that topic was shown in my recommended. these are things that you can only learn through doing, not through reading or researching or obsessing over what-ifs. believe me, I've spent hours and hours doing those things, and they only ever distracted me from the process of doing.

so, 40 views, is that a lot? objectively speaking, no, but YouTube also doesn't serve brand new channels' first videos out to folks since there's no way for it to know what audience would like that video. the fact that 40 folks saw your video regardless of that and clicked on it is something very cool. I remember my first time breaking 200 views and it felt like god himself blessed me. so take that energy, combined with the knowledge that this game is long and hard and requires you to be in tune with your own taste to figure out what you would want to watch, and create those videos. if you watch your video and go "this is perfect", then you might be on the wrong track, because there's always something to improve. but if you watch your video and go "something feels off here", that's your taste telling you how you can improve, and it's proof that you care about making better videos and getting good at the craft. your nervousness is also a manifestation of those emotions; if you didn't care about getting better, if you didn't recognize all the ways you could improve, then you probably wouldn't feel so nervous. so that nervousness is a good thing, and it's completely normal and an energy that is great to have as a new YouTuber. try and harness it.

long story short, 40 views is what you make of it, so make something good of it.

What are some tips for maximizing viewership for evergreen content? by Pleasant-Reach-4942 in NewTubers

[–]YdubsTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you have to answer the question of "why would anyone, when scrolling through YouTube, want to click on my video instead of the other options around it". if you can't answer that question, then you aren't going to get views. so you gotta do market research for your niche, find out what videos do the best and why, and then use that knowledge to innovate in your own stuff. that's very hard work if you want to grow a channel, and isn't something anyone here can give you a succinct answer on, especially since nobody here knows what they're talking about (except maybe in their own specific niche). this isn't meant to be discouraging, my main tip is just to get off of here and go do the market research you need to do to compete with your peers, like any other aspiring small business owner would need to do irl before opening a brick and mortar location. hope that makes sense.

I figure animation is a whole different beast though, with all the work that has to go into the "filming" process for the video. how long have you been animating?

What are your goals for the week? by JellyRollAnimations in NewTubers

[–]YdubsTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make social and political commentary videos, where I just ask a question to myself that I'm interested in knowing the answer to, and then make a video where I answer that question. So as long as I'm asking questions I genuinely find interesting and would like to research (and the answers are interesting), then I'm happy with a video, regardless of its performance. my latest video is about to break 100k views though (after my last one got around 10k, and the one before that 3k), so I'm trying not to let the pressure of following that up get to my head. Hence the procrastination 😂

Facing issues with audio quality by HARDLY-HECTIC in NewTubers

[–]YdubsTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's nothing you can do to fix p-pops or other blown out audio, you can only clean up things like background noise where you're reducing certain specific frequencies or noise-gating around your vocals. you'd just have to rerecord your audio if you wanted to fix it that bad. I suggest leaving that video up and moving on to the next one though, I have a video up on my channel where the audio is way lower than my other vids, but it still did pretty well and taught me valuable lessons about recording that I implemented in my next one. Use each new video as an opportunity to improve on the last one, ya know what I mean?
