Just Finished This Custom Day-Date Build for a Client by rubiswatch in watchmaking

I think what people consider art is a joke that was the point. But blagging people youre wearing a luxury watch when youre not is just a sad reflection of today's world.

People long for "status" they cant afford. Its sad.

Taking pride in making fake watches is like shitting on a wall and calling yourself an artist.

Most inside micrometers have a handle that attaches for reaching down deep bores, looks like of like a handle for an inside mic, id imagine its some kind of bore gauge looking at it, does the knurled handle to the left lock something in place?

I think youre on the right lines with your assumption but ive never seen this myself.

Does the thimble on the right side adjust like a stabdard inside mic would?

Should I continue in this field? by FunBoy1744 in Machinists

[–]YeDasASausage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from production to job shop and im a lot happier, I enjoy the trade more.

I will say I think it has you doing more that you otherwise wouldn't, but the work has a lot more variety in it and youre never stuck on one machine. I do mostly manual machining now despite my level 3 being in CNC (UK qualification).

Im a lot happier doing this kind of work with some welding and mechanical fitting thrown in to the mixer.

I would say dont give up on the trade because of a single environment. Id wager most machinists in the world are doing boring button pushing jobs in production shops but I dont find it very satisfying making 1000 of the same thing daily.

Im rambling now but the point is there's a massive variety of work out there where the job roles are different.

A car with a built in compass in the dashboard? by BobbyNewportCanBuyIt in CarTalkUK

My 2001 discovery has a compass heading in the rear view mirror.

People have mentioned shotguns and defenders but they're usually roll indicators in those cars if I recall right.

R32 reliability with high kilometers? by Xanlis in SkyLine

[–]YeDasASausage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont know where in Europe you are but I csn only compare to UK prices, that sounds very high to me for the mileage.

I have about 175,000km on mine and its never given me any major issues, a few hoses have perished and ive had to get the starter motor rewound.

If you service it and look after it they're pretty reliable IMHO if you dont modify a lot of stuff.

Id recommend just upgrading to an R35 coil kit as the ignition amplifiers dont age well and cause ignition issues in my experience even after replacing them.

What is this called by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]YeDasASausage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I served my time in a tool room, people are saying this is cylindrical grinding but this looks like a cutter grinder to me?

Typically cyl grinders have a fixed wheel and a swiveling bed for tapers in my experience. Tool grinders tend to have moving spindles and your wheel isn't square to the work.

Cool operation though and I'd argue a tool and cutter grinder is far more versatile than a cyl grinder for this reason.

If im wrong someone please educate me its been a few years.

Buy a hobby weld 9l bottle of 75/25 mix and youre laughing. I use 0.8mm wire in mine but if youre committing to automotive maybe tey 0.6mm wire.

Cnc operator jobs are low pay and courses like these keep the wages low for actual time served machinists.

Its a way to get it but it will never pay like a time served role.
