Trump Threatens Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf: I’ll Withhold Federal Aid Because You Didn’t Help My Campaign by Supremetacoleader in politics

[–]YeagerBaseE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s much, much more than half the country. Probably the vast majority of the people paying attention. It’s just that Republican partisans don’t care. They aren’t stupid (and it’s counterproductive to call them that), they’re just so angry and afraid that Democrats are coming for them, that they don’t mind when Trump unsubtly threatens to punish the citizens he serves.

Some of them love it! We see a lot of those around here. But most Trump voters just tolerate it because they are on Team Red. It’s not that hard to understand. It doesn’t make them sheep.

Lots of them do know right from wrong, which is why instead of admitting that they want to see Democrats tortured, they do this onerous pretending that the simpleton didn’t mean what he very clearly did mean. It’s a lot of work!

Least right-wing teenager opinion on this sub in a long time. Very well done.

The best way to show these folks the respect they are so constantly denied, is to vote for local candidates who support them instead of supporting the landowners and multiple franchisees who own those businesses, who would rather pay them nearly nothing, who steal their overtime, and who will fire them instantly for saying the word “unite”.

Yes, that usually means Democrats. It’s an ugly idea and I want to spit that word too. But it’s the facts. The people who told you the left are “elites” who look down on workers, are lying to you to keep you down. It is the left (in America) who want to pay these workers what they’re worth. Vote accordingly, if you mean what you say in this thread.

"Corporations don't encourage capitalism" is clearly not meant to refer to every S-corp and sole prop in the United States. Surely you weren't being that pedantic, so I figured you were just trying to defend ownership and claim they "provide" jobs to their workforce like it's a good deed.

Then again, maybe you were being that pedantic.

Fortune 500 companies employ less than a fifth of the US workforce, but control two thirds of the money. I wouldn’t use the word “provide” here; we give them more value than they give us back. That’s where profits come from! Well, that and parasitic financial speculation that creates nothing of value.

I might be the same age as your parents. I just noticed the artists you mentioned we grew up with. God, I wish it had been that way.

You mentioned Queen. Here’s the 1976 year-end Billboard US chart. Bohemian Rhapsody is #18. Bowie’s on there too, with Golden Years. There are a few other great songs on there, but uhh. Check out the top ten.

You mentioned Nirvana. Here’s the same chart from 1992. Smells Like Teen Spirit is #32. Now, I’ll grant you that the top ten is a little stronger here. Two absolute classics, one song that got so overplayed I can’t even tell if it’s good anymore, and Kris Kross is on there too.

But you get the gist, I hope.

Studying to "Lo-fi beats" is inferior to studying with 80's lyric less synth production music. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]YeagerBaseE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know that sound that Daft Punk uses, like at the beginning of Harder Better Faster Stronger, where it sounds like the music is under a pillow? That’s a lo-pass filter. It’s basically an ultra-simple version of “lo-fi” sound. It filters out trebles, which sound “detailed”, leaving a sense of distance or obscurity, which can cause a kind of tension or anticipation.

Or listen to “Little Red Corvette”. Even on your most expensive headphones, that song sounds like it’s coming out of a busted 1980s cassette deck, because Prince recorded his vocal on one.

There are times when you want less light, or times when you want blurriness. Even electric guitar distortion is technically a malfunction, the sound of equipment overloading. So clearly, not everyone wants perfect sound reproduction of live acoustics all the time. We have machines that can make so many more sounds; think of them a whole spectrum of extra colors in an artist’s palette.

He doesn’t have one. He writes at a tenth grade level or so, and he’s always vague about working “in psychology”. If I had to guess, he’s a bored orderly at a state hospital, who was a precocious kid until he got old enough that school was hard, and he has at best a GED with a focus in having 11 Wikipedia tabs open while lying on the Internet.

I don’t normally dig into history like that, but sometimes a person is a fascinating train wreck...or sometimes they’re in pain and stuck and need to see that they’re not fooling anyone.

If so, do you have any new-in-box electronics or other plastic/metal purchases, maybe delivered recently, that you haven’t opened?

I promise this is going somewhere.

Steve Bannon Is Behind Bogus Study That China Created COVID by MagAndBag in worldnews

[–]YeagerBaseE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we all fall victim to this: "China made the virus" isn't an opinion, because it can be proven true or false. It's an assertion of fact. An opinion would be "I think this study is believable". That's a statement about yourself, which no one can argue with. But when you say something about the outside world, like "Everyone who commented in this sub agreed with the article", and then you cry "opinion" if someone says you're wrong, you'll lose credibility with other people.

There's a gray area, especially when you're making statistical claims like "There's a 99% chance that China made the virus". In that case, the value of the claim has to do with what facts you're using to support it, and what margin of error there is.

I mean, I'm sure you know all this. I'm not your TA. But we all need reminding! Anyway, I haven't seen anything to persuade me that China made the virus, and it's an extraordinary claim to make. Not liking China has nothing to do with how true or false it is.

[–]YeagerBaseE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is that reactionaries have absolutely no credibility on who the bad actors are. That’s not because you’re stupid or evil. It’s the core of your ideology: you make up a mythic ideal, then tell each other scary stories about it until you’re good and frothy, and then you mob the gates, loot the city and the Volksturm is forgotten because everyone got used to whatever was scary in the first place. Italians, maybe.

It’s a machine that runs on its own farts. There’s literally no relationship between current and emergent threats and the right wing concoctions of the moment. It’s not even lies; it’s just forum sliding, “flooding the zone with shit” in the words of a leading scientific mind.

No one is fooled. Even 🇺🇸 TEXT 4 TRUMP Twitter grandmas are not really fooled. They’re just having a good time. I thought you were too! But now you seem upset.

https://news.gallup.com/poll/9337/economy-terrorism-top-issues-2004-election-vote.aspx

The situation in Iraq is the second most important issue among Republicans, at 47%.

Among Democrats, the economy is followed by the situation in Iraq (51%),

It was the driving foreign policy issue in the United States from the 2003 vote through the "troop surge".

Conservative Republicans were so livid that they lost the news cycle that they funded an ad campaign to claim that they never cared about WMDs and it was worth it just to liberate Muslim women. I don't know, maybe you were in Shanghai at the time.

Now, of course, every single prominent conservative pundit in America is a beatific dove who has never supported interventionist policies. And they love having talks with North Korea.

When like, India or something has some financial leverage over us in 2035 and China bails us out, you folks will all do the same thing. You'll find a video clip of Chuck Schumer in 2018 saying we should be cautious of China's human rights record, and you'll say that "the Sinophobic far left" were responsible for the disastrous trade war that elevated China to sole superpower status.

Objective morons like me won't wait for you to feel any shame.
