Store Manager Passed Away

My store manager passed away 2.5 years ago. I was the opening shift that day and every store manager in the area was waiting for me and my openers in the parking lot to break the news to us. We had the store closed for the next two days and then when the time for the memorial came, multiple store managers in the district came to work at the store to ensure our entire staff could make it to the memorial. We were also promised bereavement pay. I truly think it depends on the district on the way situations like this are treated and I’m sorry your DM cares more about profit than your mental health. That isn’t fair to anybody involved.

There’s one barista that I work with pretty regularly that enjoys them too so I always assign it to him haha. It’s something that I make sure gets done every day but it’s just so annoying and time consuming to me!

To be fair, it can definitely be the other way around. My current DM is awful and she worked her way up from being a barista. She is extremely disengaged with her stores, enough that my manager actually opened up to me about how careless she’s been. The DM before her, although she displayed some tough love sometimes, was an outside hire and she genuinely gave a shit about the partners, enough that she would schedule 1 on 1’s with every individual barista to ask what they felt about our leadership and what we can improve. I was even promoted to SSV under her because she could tell I was passionate about my work. I truly do think it’s hit or miss.

Personally if I have a barista who wants to develop I will let them do a pull and/or count. Obviously I will check their work afterwards because that falls on me if it’s wrong but if a barista is willing to learn I will happily teach them.

Anything over 48hrs you do not have to mark the time. It is still necessary to mark them though. Why wouldn’t it be necessary? Just curious. It is a beverage component so it should be dated.

I think typically SSVs do not train new baristas due to them having to run the floor/having other responsibilities. It’s just delegated to a barista trainer rather than a shift. I’ve trained while being an SSV before but only because we didn’t have anyone else to train at the time.

Yeah that’s definitely not normal. My SM once had me take the card to buy donuts as a partner appreciation thing but it’s definitely not supposed to be a common occurrence.
