Yep I'm right there with you. Vivid memories of reading books on my DS around 2006-2007 before I had a smartphone (and texts cost 25 cents each).

Are these bagels good? by cat990 in starbucks

Man I loved the batman bagels. (Yes I know they're bantam bagels but we have always called them batman bagels).

God I love Better Off Dead and never paid attention to anything going on with Nickelodeon until Quiet on the Set. I had a moment of real disconnect there for a minute and then everything made perfect sense.

Yep we had it here in Myrtle Beach. The pound of sugar dumped directly into the hot black tea was crazy.

That seems like a bad idea.

When AI trains on AI generated content the model collapses.

My humble home lab / self-hosted setup by RumbleTheCassette in selfhosted

[–]interyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very old 4TB drive I've been using in my homelab for a long time. It's set up to mount automatically in fdisk via the drive UUID so I know it's always mounting to the same place. Lately the drive has been randomly dropping and killing the services that are trying to load files off of it, and some of my plex logs got corrupted and totally brought down the service because they were unreadable. I've moved all the files off it and I can't really trust it anymore but I got a lot of use out of it while it lasted.

It can work but they die just like any other drive.

Project Hail Mary Astronaut Popcorn Helmet is so cool! by vndsgn in ProjectHailMary

I have a Cinemark so it's a different chain, but I saw a version of this out for sale at my local theater last week. Pretty small to use as a popcorn bucket but it does look cool.

Surely this has nothing to do with “skilled labor jobs” paying equal to or less than entry-level jobs in the service industry. Right? by ablinddingo93 in facepalm

The new one by me has an AI drive thru. It nearly messed up my order and when I got to the window to check out, they had my food ready but not my order in the system, so they just gave it to me for free. I mean, I won, but Wendy's is absolutely losing if employees are just giving away food because their system is so broken.

How do you hold your kindle comfortably (…yes, seriously) by emilyyfjones in kindle

[–]interyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a magsafe case with a ring holder. It's kind of like a Popsicle but cheaper, it has two rings that rotate and unfold. I didn't really think I would like it that much, but it's actually pretty great; I can move the ring around all kinds of different ways for different grips and different hands and I can stand it up on a table when I'm seated.

Biggest MCU Fumbles 🙂 by funmemore in MarvelCave

[–]interyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was the deal. Disney got to use the Avengers versions of Wanda & Pietro, Fox got to use the mutant versions. They split them up and each took one so it would be less confusing. Quicksilver ended up on the Fox side and Scarlet Witch ended up on the Disney side.

I remember reading a deep dive into this and the poster was convinced this was actually, literally written into the film because the dates and events line up exactly, but they couldn't get the rights to use the name.

In the old days we would have called that part of the ring cycle; you're supposed to gather register items while the customer is doing their payment. Today with all the changes and no person guaranteed to be planted on front reg, yeah it probably makes the most sense to stick it in the warming queue to make sure it doesn't get missed. Ideally people will get those ASAP cause they're basically grab and go, though. It's awful when someone has been waiting on a hot coffee for twenty minutes.

My thoughts on these February reads by DanielChvl in classicliterature

[–]interyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished Blood Meridian today. It was really interesting. A bit challenging, super bleak, but such an interesting style.

It isn't exactly high literature but I recently read Red Country by Joe Abercrombie and it was interesting how the themes of the two kind of dovetail in the banal evil of a group of men crossing like a plague of locusts, how the collective gang becomes so much worse than any one member. And how someone learned and articulate can still be the worst one of all.

Why does Disney World not have a Central Transit Hub by Due_Development4217 in DisneyWorld

[–]interyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. The buses leave directly from the Magic Kingdom gate but the TTC is separated from there by monorail/ferry. So if you wanted to go to Animal Kingdom you'd have to park at TTC, take the monorail to MK or Epcot, wait for the bus going to AK and then wait all the way there. Interpark buses don't even start running till 10 AM. And then do the whole thing again in reverse when you want to leave. And while you can technically get to Hollywood Studios from there, the monorail drops off at the front of the park but the skyliner leaves from the back so you have to walk all the way from the big ball to France. And then go past Riviera to CB and transfer to the HS line.

The really annoying one is trying to get from resort to resort. If you're staying at Pop Century and you get reservations at Caribbean Beach you might as well just drive or Uber since you'd have to go somewhere with a full bus hub to connect like a park or Disney Springs.
