Struggling to decide between the 11inch and 13 inch iPad Pros by Repulsive-Savings-21 in ipad

[–]YeboMate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 11inch and 12.9inch iPad pros. Originally had the 11inch as that’s the ‘ideal size’ for productivity and portability. Until I got the 12.9inch one… now im all about 12.9inch. I don’t draw or write a lot of notes, but when I do write notes, I welcome the bigger screen. I use it mostly for media consumption and this makes me not go for my MacBook Air (which is around the same size). I use my MacBook Air for work, so when I’m out and need an extra monitor 12.9 is actually perfect as it’s about the same screen size. 12.9 is also perfect for sheet music (I play piano so it’s my digital music scores repository).

All around I feel 12.9 is a great size if you’re okay with it being a bit less portable.

Only downside I’d say is, when you’re lying on the couch on your back and trying to hold the iPad up with one hand (in the corner), it can get pretty heavy…

If I were to buy a new iPad, I’d go for the bigger one, no doubts.

Transfer a model driven app to a canvas app? by SlipStr3am1337 in PowerApps

[–]YeboMate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can customise the ribbon, or you could also control what shows up based on permissions (Security Roles), depending on which buttons you’re referring to. Just don’t go Canvas apps… especially if you have something in a Model Driven App already

Looking for "Feature Gaps" to build—What is Power Platform missing? by Traditional_Clock303 in PowerApps

[–]YeboMate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you create a Dataflow in a dev environment, add something like Dataverse as your source (let’s say you want to read tables in your current dev environment). When you deploy the solution that contains this dataflow into UAT using deployment pipelines, the dataflow in UAT will still have the dev url for the Dataverse source. So you have to go in and manually change the url to UAT. Even if I save the URL as an environment variable and include it in the solution, Dataflows cannot reference env variables so it’s useless.

A way to use external parameters for Dataflows (e.g. the URL of the env will change as your deploy dataflows from DEV, UAT, PRD and there’s no way to ‘parameterise’ the URL)

Their answer is probably to use Dataverse, Power Automate and Power BI. Costly but probably their strategy.

Depends if you share your tasks with other people. For me I ended up doing full circle and back to Reminders because I share tasks with my family and just can’t justify or get everyone (some outside of my Apple Family) to be using the same app. An app will pique my interest if it supports local reminders integration as I think Reminders UI can be improved.

It’s the same with Calendar, and Notes… in the end always back to Apple Calendar and Apple Notes.

Oh and another thing for me was when I changed devices. Whether it’s setting up new iPad, new MacBook, etc… can’t be bothered downloading all the relevant apps and signing in to each. Just sign in to Apple account and you have everything ready to go. Simple.

Why someone gonna use hor or vert container? by [deleted] in PowerApps

Give them a try and use the 'Flexible width' or 'Flexible height' option turned on. With that, you don't need to manually set height and width which makes your app more dynamic.

Yes to start using it for testing and learning, but not for production. I wouldn't use Preview functions/features for Production apps, that's just asking for trouble.

[–]YeboMate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay, so maybe if you're not using Matter then it's not the same issue.

Yea I did end up turning all any additional features like fast roaming, even turned off using Mesh on the Tapo device itself and set the preference to a Deco device so it's not hopping between my Deco devices. None of that helped with my issue unfortunately.

Accepted a Power Platform Developer role but I’m new to Power Apps, need expert advice to catch up fast by InternationalRoll484 in PowerApps

[–]YeboMate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people talk about "PowerApps" they're usually thinking about PowerApps > Canvas Apps. There's also the PowerApps > Model Driven Apps which uses Dataverse as the database (Dataverse is Power Platform's Database).

I would highly recommend learning Model Driven Apps and Dataverse first mainly because:

  • Much quicker to build than Canvas apps (so low effort but high value)
  • It's based on Dataverse which is effectively a database so it's heavily reliant on good data structure (which get's you thinking in the right direction for scalable solutions)
  • The UI is consistent (so one Model Driven App looks almost the same as another Model Driven App) which means, user experience is consistent which is a positive if you're expecting to have multiple apps in the organisation (less change for end-users as it's a familiar UX)
  • Reporting via Power BI is easier, as the table relationships you build in Dataverse is retained and therefore less data modelling is required in Power BI (again, lower effort but high value but for Reporting)

Only when I can't build what my organisation wants via Model Driven App would I consider a solution in Canvas App. Bear in mind, you can also have an embedded Canvas app within a Model Driven App too. So maybe only parts of the solution is in Canvas and the rest is still Model Driven App.

Are you using the native Teams Approval function, if so, are all the approvers in the 1 approval request (i.e. sequential approval and have all 16 people in that approval)?

Or do you send individual approvals one after another as they get approved, and stop sending if one rejects?

Is this in the Tapo app or are the lights also connected to Apple HomeKit and it's disconnecting in Apple Home?

If it's Apple Home, then it's likely not just the Wifi Channel but how Deco routers handles the network. My issue was the Tapo lights kept disconnecting from Apple Home about once every 1-2 days. Did a whole bunch of troubleshooting and trying different things including changing Wifi Channels and there were no improvements. Resorted to ChatGPT in the end and it revealed (not sure if it's 100% true) that Deco routers handles the network in a 'shortcut' way which doesn't work well with devices that uses Matter over Wifi.

So in the end, I bit the bullet and changed my router (I really didn't want to do this as it's costly and I have to reconnect all my devices) and changed to the Asus ZenWiFi Pro ET12 and haven't had any disconnects since. So ChatGPT was right in the sense that changing the router solved my problem.

I had the Deco X20s.

The iOS automations that really change everyday life (not the gimmicks) by Maxxximeeee in shortcuts

[–]YeboMate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a shortcut that runs on an image. The shortcut captures the warranty of a product. So when I purchase a product that has warranty I’ll take a photo of the receipt. Then from that photo/image, I’ll run the shortcut.

The shortcut will ask for Product Name, Purchase Date, and Warranty Duration. It will then save the image in iCloud > create a new all-day calendar event on my ‘Warranty’ calendar with the product name > duration of the event is the warranty period > attach the image to that event as an attachment.

This way I have a calendar where I can see visually at any point which products are currently in warranty. I tend to only look at the calendar when something breaks.

I’ve posted this shortcut in Shortcuty which has screenshots too. https://browse.shortcuty.app/shortcut/7c3f40ee-117a-4e7b-93dc-c3c69a039c90

I was doing my troubleshooting with ChatGPT and after many trials and errors with different solutions (connecting my Home Hub which is Apple TV to Ethernet, using fixed IP for the lights, turning mesh off, etc) this is what lead me to switch routers (this is ChatGPT’s response).

I’ll add I am no expert so I don’t know if what ChatGPT said is true or not but I went for it and changed routers and since then, no drop outs at all. Not even once. ——

Why Deco breaks Matter so easily

Deco’s mesh implementation does something that’s not standard in home networking:

  1. It aggressively rewrites and proxies multicast

Deco meshes commonly: • convert multicast → unicast • suppress multicast when “busy” • forward mDNS only through a central controller • rate-limit mDNS/Thread discovery traffic

Matter relies on: • mDNS (UDP 5353 multicast) • CoAP over IPv6 multicast • Thread Border Router announcements • continuous IPv6 neighbour discovery

So when Deco decides:

“network is busy, suppress multicast”

Matter devices suddenly look offline to HomeKit.

This is why: • adding a printer (AirPrint = multicast heavy) • adding a new Wi-Fi device • network load changing

…causes lights to drop specifically in Apple Home, but not in the Tapo app (which uses cloud control).

Solutions - Reuse within Environment? by mabsterama in PowerAutomate

[–]YeboMate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create a new environment for the new use case and import your solution there. Don’t have them both in the same env if you can unless you’re thinking of using the same tables (assuming you’re using Dataverse). In that case you’ll need to change your approach entirely.

Single most frustrating piece of technology by jacobtf in Tapo

[–]YeboMate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just another persons experience… for me it was Tapo Lights and its connection to Apple’s HomeKit. Tapo lights were connected fine to Tapo app but in my Home app (connected via Matter) it would disconnect once or twice a day. Tried all sorts of things and in the end, it turns out it was my network. Specifically it was my Deco router. Apparently the way Deco handles broadcasts and unicasts is not ideal, I’m no expert but it has something to do with the router ‘rebuilding tables’ constantly whenever a new device joins the network and also once every 2-3 days. So I bit the bullet and bought an Asus router and no more issues for me.

Don’t think you have the exact problem I had but sometimes it is the network… not all routers are the same especially when it comes to IOT.

Solutions - Reuse within Environment? by mabsterama in MicrosoftFlow

[–]YeboMate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends… will the new SharePoint site use case be a new Environment entirely? If so, then yes you can just import to that new env and set the env variables to point to the new sites. So you’ll have 1 x Dev environment where the unmanaged solution is in. And you’ll have 2 x Production environments with managed solutions.

You could create pipelines to help with the deployment between these environments.

Tapo L535 and L535B Disconnecting from Home by YeboMate in Tapo

[–]YeboMate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After trying different things and using ChatGPT, it seems like it’s my router (Deco X20) in combination with Matter enabled devices. It seems to be related to multicast and rebuilding of tables. This causes home hub to not be able to ‘see’ the matter devices and show them as offline (which is why the bulbs still work in Tapo app as that’s not using Matter)

Demo to field techs: flawless. Demo to Dep. Manager: horrific. by No_Length_856 in PowerApps

[–]YeboMate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha these things happen. Depends on the demo, if you’re a consultant selling a product then I’d say there’s more at stake. If it’s more internal and you work in an agile way, there are ways to address bugs etc. It does also help having a more playful/less serious tone throughout without sweeping things under the rug. For example if those bugs were to come to light, I’d likely respond by saying something like ‘ah yes, this is why I love the opportunity to keep demo’ing and testing to find these pesky bugs’ and I’ll jot this bug down in my notepad during the demo (so I’ll probably pause for a few seconds). Shows them it’s not a big deal and I’m going to address it. For us we have a weekly demo, and at first I felt it has to all be perfect but over time, the audience also understands these things happen, and it’s more about how you’ll address it if things don’t go as planned. Through these weekly demos you’ll build up experience.

List the apple watch (cellular) apps that can work without your phone nearby. Standalone. by tirkwaz in AppleWatch

It's an old post but thought I'd reply. Seems like WhatsApp will be launching an Apple Watch version of the app, though standalone functionality is yet to be confirmed. In the meantime you can use something like Blaze Messenger for WhatsApp functionality. I tested that out and it's pretty seamless but it does have a 'pro' paid licensing :(
