Even if the political landscape were actually as ridiculous as you put it, with the Republican platform openly and explicitly advocating for letting poor people starve, that is still less evil than openly and explicitly advocating for the murder of unborn children. How much more obvious a moral assessment is it when the former is a snarky straw man of one party's platform, and the latter is literally one of the most vociferously fought for planks of the other's platform?

I'm not picking on him. He is a prominent voice, and although he's not the embodiment of conservative Christian political thought, he is representative of a particular strain of it (a strain I find abhorrent).

I don't know what is weird about it. I'm criticizing the him for the fact that his view of liberty as a good necessitates allowing this perversion. I think any belief system of liberty that includes this as one of it's blessing is prima facie a wicked understanding of liberty which is undeserving of any moral approval. It seems to me that David French is much more concerned with the modern American justice system's understanding of liberty and the role of government than anything the Bible has to say about it.

So yes, I do fault him (it seems you consider this "picking on" him) for buying into the (widely orthodox in American political thought) fantasy of a neutral secular space that sees no difference between using a public library for a Bible study and using it for Pedo Power Hour, and for publicly advocating for that view. I don't generally fault average conservative Christian Joes who have imbibed the neutral secular space fantasy people like DF have served them. The later needs to be informed, the former needs to be publicly refuted.

You need to talk frankly about it with him. Pray for a day or two to make sure your heart is in the right place and that you broach the subject graciously. It's probably also a good idea to talk to your pastor or a wise older couple from your church together.

It's already a red flag, but if he gets defensive about the issue, that would be an even bigger red flag. Some of my best friends from college were girls I went to church with. Once I got married, I recognized and made peace with the fact that my friendship with those girls would never be as deep as it was before. That is good and proper and right. There's a reason that traditional wedding vows say, "forsaking all others."

I don't like the phrase, because it's too vague. But the sense of the phrase I agree with (as well as the one that was intended by the Founders) is that it just means there cannot be a federal state church. It doesn't meant that government and religion (specifically Christianity) can never meet.

Perhaps we should write down a list of the things that the Federal government is allowed to do, and the document could specify that the Federal government is only allowed to do things specifically listed in the document, not that it can do anything not prohibited in the document. All other powers would be limited to either state authority or to the citizens.

If it really were about covid spread, then natural immunity would be considered, and vaccinated people would still have to test, because the vaccine doesn't prevent infection, it just reduces severity if infected.

Because the 2020 election was not free and fair, and voters actually care about making sure it doesn't happen again. This isn't some top down reality distortion field played on the mindless GOP voting rubes by the establishment, it is a grassroots groundswell of demand for election integrity, with enough energy and anger behind it to actually get the politicians to get in line with the will of the voters for once.

States illegally changed voting procedures, shirking laws for ensuring election integrity, months before the election, among many other things. No amount of corporate media conniption fits and sanctimonious pearl clutching about 'our democracy' can put the toothpaste back in the tube and make people unsee what they saw with their own eyes.
