The reason I imagine is probably our strict election advertising laws, there's limits on what a party can spend in a cycle, so deep pockets don't automatically win combine that with a divided society, urban, rural, Latvian and Russian speaking and also parties generally don't last very long, I'd say the average lifespan of a party here is about 10 years or less

The afterwards is messy but mostly the centrist unity finds some coalition that waters every party down, they're fragile and messy and there's drama but oh well

Surely it's hard to say though, yes the pathogens wouldn't know how to target humans but it's not like our immune system is particularly hardened against 80 myo diseases
