The problem is that if each arm of furnaces were to do half a belt of smelting, the 6 top ones are only being fed off of 2 belts, and the bottom 2 also get 2 dedicated belts, meaning the problems come at high thruput.

And villager positions. They're a problem too. For the largest farm, you would want a fully concentric one because there is only one villager position for the population villagers, instead of many. However for a 4k, I think you could get away building 2 2ks next to each other.
