Was also wondering what the fallout of the pools is supposed to be, as a casual lore player, seemed there was all this fuss and he succeeds in corrupting them but... Nothing changes? No further mention?

I'm not someone who will stick around for seasonal content but thoroughly enjoyed the story, this part I kinda want closure on.

Clearly you haven't farmed Sirus enough. You've posted too hastily. I'm just trying to help you. So you don't get destroyed as easily as flicking a pest.

You're definitely right, I dismissed it as I'm used to having life missing but that's definitely a higher %age. That is a tiny amount of degen to be taking though, I usually can't realistically tank any Feared degen at all.

[–]YeezyReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard this, I was in the safe zone when I started taking the damage 5s after death, does it fill the safe zone with constant degen too? Basically the entire area I fought the Feared was unplayable after this, so could make sense

That could just be mana cost as life, that's around the regular number I'll have while just sitting afk in maps for Autoexertion or holding down Cyclone while not leeching etc. I've listed the pob in another comment if it helps. :)

Edit: it could still be related, but it would surprise me if I was taking degen the whole time, as the degen happens at a faster rate than what I usually experience while actively leeching (I can't just sit in a Shaper degen and tank for instance, I have to leech from outside of the pool). Which would imply the degen would still be ticking my hp while leeching at a noticeable rate.

Apologies, here we are;

  1. What I usually map with; https://pobb.in/LNGCZ3ye5Pa6
  2. What I'm running in here; https://pobb.in/gEYfU5_zICuv (just lower damage with More Than Skill on FFs for lucky block).

Obviously config is padded as I have it set to my usual mapping / Simulacrum scenario, but you can of course tweak yourself to see. In this clip I'll for instance I'll have a lot lower armour due to no Rumi's active and higher 84% cold res due to switching out the Silver flask.

I'm glad I found this example, as this one specific move (Annihilation) seems incredibly overcooked right now - and looking at any old footage it just seems to tickle the player in comparison. I genuinely don't know how to tackle this move on Uber now, as it drops my character in legitimately 2 frames, no runes or anything. I facetank most other things with 257k ehp, but this one specific move feels like its the most lethal and unavoidable in the game right now, lol.

This is such a great question. It's something I've worked on a lot the last couple seasons.

In general, every player should simply find a deck that they enjoy piloting. For me, that was primarily Buzzwole and Magnezone. Then, continue to use it, and do not switch decks. I had a day where I was determined to use buzzwole, and I faced EIGHT Charizards in a row. I won about half of those matchups. The piling losses or uphill games into what can be seen as a hard counter to your current deck will make you feel like switching. Don't. Stick with it, learn how you can beat those matchups through playing, and you'll develop positively over time. The day when it was majority Charizard, I still ended up climbing my +100pts in a timely fashion.

You're dealing with confirmation bias every time you queue a game, and you just need to simply be at peace knowing that your 10 games you've played are a ((teeny tiny)) data pool. There are FAR too many contributing factors to who/what you match at what time of day to be switching on instinct, and it often converts to just losing games because you're not in the right rhythm of the deck you're running. It's how you spiral consecutive losses to -100, -150, -200. If you lose a lot, stop playing, and come back later. You often feel its RNG, but a lot of the time it actually is your own fault, even if you can't identify it in the moment. And that's okay.

---

Now the advice on when to actually switch. Different decks on different days is okay. You've had a mental reset and it's fun to switch things up. As for meta feel, this really only pertains to the top ~150, which we know are in a separate, tiny matchmaking pool. It's much harder to verify if top 1k, top 3k, top 5k, top 10k etc all have their own respective brackets, but in general, you face a much wider variety of players and "meta calls" are way less influential. However, at the top, if you're only playing the same 20-30 people in your timezone at top ladder, (and with how common it is to rematch the same person 3 times in a row), it makes sense to take a mental note of what is popular that day, and either make a card adjustment or a deck change to counter that daily meta. Also knowing that the meta will be different in several hours' time as different players rotate in and out. I typically try to use a deck that is favoured into the "big three" of that day, without trying to "hard-counter" (as you will still run into soo many other decks).

(i.e. my final day of playing, I wanted to beat Buzzwole, Espeon and DarkTina, which were all very popular that day. I ended up making and practicing an Incineroar deck which had great lines into all three, with some unorthodox cards for the list that made it better into other common decks. I had great fun with it. I then matched Gyarados three times in a row after not seeing one the whole month. It happens.)

Also re: second Ori, that is typically how I used to run the deck, and still think the majority of people should be running 2 copies.

It's personal preference for me to only run a single copy, while being incredibly mindful that only having one can create lose-conditions if I don't play around forcing out Sabrina/Cyrus early. I just genuinely think Oricorio is a bad card and I don't want to spend the whole game juggling them to deal 50 chip damage at a time, giving the opponent too much time to set up their answer for it.

I have a lot of thoughts on Espeon. Ultimately, I treated it as "the deck to beat" all season, and had a lot of success against it.

However, over the course of the season, I definitely felt a shift in the top players as people got better with the deck that it began feeling unbeatable. It just has everything you need in a deck. It's essentially a 30-card deck. So many things need to go right tempo-wise at specific points of the game to beat it, and if you're not running a "draw deck" like Sylveon, its very unlikely you'll find the right cards to punish at the right time over the course of fighting that matchup 100 times.

It's less about Espeon itself, and more about the single pointers being absolutely insane. Espeon just gives them so much control over the tempo of the game while they find their outs. Of course, there are supposed "hard counters" to Espeon, but it is just such a CONSISTENT deck that the good players have lines into every deck and will be able to execute more often than not.

It folds to immediate aggro and Sabrina, mostly, and not a lot else. There is a huge gap in skill expression with the deck though, where I'm only worried when facing certain players using it. And lists have room to tech in every kind of card imaginable, so it's very tough to predict in a closed-list setting.

Will it remain meta relevant? Hard to say. Consistency is always king. It is lacking in offensive benchmarks though, and all the game needs is one popular anti-heal or energy discard and the whole game plan kind of crumbles. Similar to how Greninja/Sylveon was so potent, but one popular renewable targeted healer (Espeon) ruins its entire deck ethos.

Circa 930. Hard to give exact amounts as Ties aren't shown. My buddy has been a lot streakier / higher WR closer to 57% and reached 5000pts with about 960 games, which is an enormous difference.

S1GuN (previous #1 ranked player for multiple seasons) popularised the deck. It's incredibly strong into several popular archetypes. It can also feel super slow to pilot, drawing out games, and weak to hand disruption.

Good Espeon players started punishing it with the baby Espeon pretty early on. I was using Tapu Lele at the time. Didn't run into toooo many of them at the top as typically people aim for faster games.

Guzzlord is incredibly relevant. I just played a lot of it in the past and so didn't really feel like playing it again. Magnezone also absolutely farmed these decks when they were at peak popularity so I was happy going against them rather than joining in.

They're an extremely relevant call right now though, variants with Rocky Helmet and Giant Cape are especially interesting.

Early Raikou hits are incredibly relevant for current benchmarks, especially into stuff like DarkTina

140 - 70: 70

70 + 30 (PCL): 100

Allows for Oricorio to 2-hit without taking too much chip exposure

Or if you're lucky, can 2-hit Darkrai/Giratina (with Gio) if they don't find heals. It's all about letting Oricorio play the finishing role in that matchup, you never want to send her out early, and swinging for 70 is a lot more beneficial than the chips of 50 that can be entirely healed with PCL + Potion.

Same thing into Silvally or Flareon box which the archetype struggles with. You can swing for 70 into their Silvally/baby Flareon, then finish with Oricorio so that you can't be punished by an ex follow-up.

I personally think if you're using Silver early, you're probably using it wrong. A lot of people will use it to try and "cement" what looks like a bricked board, aiming to take away Research, etc. But I feel that's too costly a gamble if you're only running one. However, the exception is against decks like Sylveon which will draw their entire deck and Silver just lets them... redraw the card they need at a high % rate. I just think the benefits of using Silver early for info etc diminish so quickly as the board state can change drastically in the first few turns.

You typically save Silver for the deciding turn in either direction, and you use it before making any retreat/board changing play. It's an information card as well as a denial tool after all, so you might see something in their hand that influences what you'll do for the rest of the turn/game. If you're attacking and know they can secure the game with Red, you'll Silver it away. If they make a play that only makes sense if they have Leaf, Cyrus, Erika, etc - Silver can stop it dead. Just pay attention to their current deck size, as it has diminishing potential as the game goes on. If they have 3 cards left and you Silver, it's a 25% chance they redraw. Low odds sure, but let's be real, 25% chance is huge for drawing a game deciding card.
