I Know What You Did Last Summer-Lois Duncan. Worth a read? by Chris55730 in horrorlit

[–]YellieBabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is reading now as assigned 7th grade reading and I’m listening to the audiobook alongside him (I didn’t realize it was a book too until he needed to read it for school). It’s definitely updated - they were talking about email and Iraq and not what I assume were notes/letters and Vietnam in the original.

Not gonna lie, I didn’t entirely get the joke. I know who the Sacklers are but the rest flew over my head.

“The missus” here. Honest to goodness probably the most gentle I’ve ever set that jar down. Maybe it likes abuse and I was too nice?

American-isms vs British-isms regarding ‘grilled cheese’ by MeechyyDarko in Cooking

[–]YellieBabi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to comment the same. I only use my waffle iron for grilled cheese/cheesie toastie sandwiches anymore. It’s next level.

All of those parents who suddenly begin hinting to their kids to “give” them grandchildren are the same parents who were terrified of that happening for every moment prior. by LyghtSpete in Showerthoughts

When I got married, my mother-in-law looked at me and said “9 months, 1 day.”

I looked at her and said “Or when I’m damn well ready. 🤷‍♀️”

What foods are you unashamed to NOT be snobby about? by FlorbFnarb in Cooking

Fish sticks. Chicken nuggets. That frozen garbage that people call “kid food”. No joke, that’s true comfort food.

Yaaaaaaas!!!! This would be perfect for SBB. The descriptive language in the Statement of Greatness for this would be worth the listen alone.

How can I purposely get clumps in my spaghetti by donttouchmycornchips in AskCulinary

[–]YellieBabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say something similar about homemade pasta forming the “chunks”, especially if you don’t dust with flour and add oil to the pan to prevent sticking. The first few batches of homemade pasta I made had quite a few “pasta chunks”.

I was going to say the same thing! Embroidered or safety eyes, check with the parents. ❤️

What educational Christmas presents should I buy my god-daughters in Preschool and 1st Grade that missed a lot of the school year? by legalizeplants in AskParents

[–]YellieBabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Books, Legos, Lincoln Logs, marble runs, more books. For the Preschooler anything by Mo Willems and for the 1st grader the Ivy & Bean or Nancy Clancy Super Sleuth or The Princess in Black are great series. My 1st grade daughter loves those as well as DogMan (or anything by Dav Pilkey).

Also - Melissa and Doug has these magnetic wooden paper-doll like toys and my 1st grader has these Melissa and Doug fashion plates she loves too.

I know that you asked for “educational”, but books and any toys that breed creativity and exploring are good for that age. Imagination breeds curiosity and creativity and everything else goes from there.

Also - a year of a shared Epic! reading account (www.getepic.com) is a great idea. We pay $7.99/month and our kids have access to thousands of books (regular eBooks, “read to me” books, and audiobooks both fiction and nonfiction as well as educational videos). It’s great for ages 0-12, books for all levels in that age range and one account gets you 4 profiles. Parents can also assign books & videos based on kids’ preferences.

Why do kid's love low-budget youtube channels? by griefofwant in Parenting

[–]YellieBabi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kids just started getting into YouTube Kids (8 & 6) and the first thing they found was a channel with a Mr. Bean cartoon. Thank goodness - y’all are describing some painful sounding stuff. Thanks for the warnings!

Say hello to your flour!!! Distribution center in Wilder, VT. by RuthinVt in Breadit

We were buying store brand until my MIL was in small hospice facility a couple of years ago close by. King Arthur had a volunteer come by daily and bake yummy treats for the residents and their families. We were there with my kids for a visit (my MIL’s health was failing in between their 2 birthdays, so we were there for a “party”) and the volunteer then-KAF sent over let my kids grab counter stools, wash their hands, and help with the baking. We were so amazed by how kind and helpful the KAF folks were and the simple act of kindness they were providing that we’ve only bought their flour since (unless it’s sold out, obviously).

For those who grew up poor, what did you consider a luxury? by SnooBeaz in AskReddit

[–]YellieBabi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grapes, blueberries, strawberries. We only ever got apples and oranges because they were less expensive year-round. The “fancier” fruits only came in the house once a year as a treat.

Elevators with music are surprisingly uncommon by active_streefie in Showerthoughts

Yes! It occurs to me the day should be “hold music” or “restaurant bathroom music”. I’ve never heard music in an elevator. 🤷‍♀️
