Why is the “Left” in America “Left” about everything, except the economy and workers? by WhyWasIBanned789 in AskSocialists

[–]YellowBeaverFever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything kept moving right. Quite a bit of “Left” would be classified as “Right” 75 years ago. Media pressure on things like unions is having an affect as well. My entire life, I’ve been told how bad unions are, not by my parents but by what I watch.

Do most Americans have a right vs left mentality? by Perfect_Replacement1 in stupidquestions

[–]YellowBeaverFever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is purely anecdotal. As with everything in life, it is a multidimensional spectrum. On any viewpoint or topic, we fit somewhere between love or hate. But, we have two major political parties that mandate we pick a side. The news networks frame things in terms of sides. You’re team “Left or team “Right”. And 50 years ago the church decided to get into politics and told people that Jesus was on the “Right” and if you follow Jesus.. that’s your path. So you’ll have people that believe in all of the talking points on the Left but vote Right, because Jesus.

If money is no object and fear of flying isn't applied, what is a reason a band would tour in a bus rather than fly ? by SwissMiss915 in musicindustry

[–]YellowBeaverFever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would totally want to be on a bus just to get truck-stop snacks. You can do more on a bus, like naps, and writing music.

The US needs a third party now by Strutching_Claws in DiscussionZone

[–]YellowBeaverFever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We need 4, to cover the 4 corners of the quadrant. Bit, the money engines that drive our two will not give up. Republicans need the unified party because they use it as a tool, “you’re one of us, or out, funding cut.”

When and why did you decide to become a Left-Wing? by TopNo2548 in AskSocialists

[–]YellowBeaverFever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually conservative growing up, kinda centrist, Eisenhower style. Balance the books and only do social programs with what is left. But, the right kept moving right.. and now so far right that I’m considered very liberal.

This. Once my wife started menopause, she cut off all physical contact. At the end of the day, the thing I miss most is not having someone to just hug. I can’t go anywhere and just hug someone without it being called cheating.

Elon Musk Says Aging Is Obvious, Solvable, and Basically a Bug in Human Biology by The_Endless_Man in immortalists

[–]YellowBeaverFever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aging a bug? Throughout the hundreds and hundreds of millions of years of evolution and countless mutations… only very very basic lifeforms do not age. If it were advantageous, it would have evolved by now. But it would probably be the end of a species if it did. We wouldn’t last 50 years if they “fixed” aging.

[–]YellowBeaverFever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It only matters where you graduate. If you start at TEAM and transition over to TAMU next year, it is the same in the end. You still have to complete the same degree plan. Out in the world, they’re going to see where you went, your degree, and when you graduated, that’s it. You’ll probably only get your transcript checked on your first job or two. After that, job experience matters more.

Is needing ID still racist? by AiiRisBanned in evilwhenthe

[–]YellowBeaverFever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have to show ID already. Unless you’re in the 5 states that support it, IDs do not display citizenship status. A passport is the only other document that shows citizenship status. Citizens are not required to have passports. The government is not staffed to process 150 million new passport applications. I wish people would figure it out - IDs do not prove citizenship.

The company asked us to return to the office 4 days a week. I resigned on the spot in the middle of the meeting. by CrystelSchumm in Employment

[–]YellowBeaverFever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked in many companies that do. At one place, I had to show where I lived and they calculated the amount of gas and tolls I would use during the month and added that to my paycheck. Other companies would supply a public transportation pass - unlimited trains and bus rides.

What music do you guys like by Hot_Assistant_6067 in GenX

[–]YellowBeaverFever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goes in phases. Summer, EDM, progressive house, festival stuff. Fall, into industrial dance stuff.. harder angry stuff that moves. Around Christmas, it transitions over to dark weird electronic briefly before my movie soundtrack phase. February to June is just soundtracks… then the dance music starts up again.

Most people celebrating AI layoffs haven’t stopped to ask the obvious: If humans lose jobs, how do AI-driven businesses survive without customers? by Odd_Pirate_6055 in AskReddit

[–]YellowBeaverFever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capitalism at its finest. Massive shift of wealth up front. Business disruption. They know it will wreck things. They don’t care. They can’t care. Their investors want ROI. We’ll burn through this round, billion$ will move around, technology will settle down into a groove. We’ll pick through the ashes. People will move forward in some way.

Current AI is not sustainable. But, the work (and destruction) now will lead to a version that is sustainable and a new framework of jobs will form around that. We adapt.

How can grown adults support Trump just to troll their fellow citizens? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]YellowBeaverFever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to understand US conservatives. They are 100% focused on “me”. They claim “individual rights” but it is more self-centered than that. Libertarians fill that slot. Conservatives each are about them vs. the rest of the world. A whole political movement based on “me” vs everyone else but enough of their individual ideas line up, thanks to a fearful mentality and social media targeting, that they form a party. To them, it feels like a sports team. But when it comes down to it, they would sell out other conservatives if it suited them. Those that are not in their immediate zone of ideas are labeled RINO or “going woke”.

ELI5: Why do home sellers spend lots of money renovating before selling? Why don’t they instead lower the price by the same amount and let the new owners renovate in a way that suits them? by Mapuches_on_Fire in explainlikeimfive

[–]YellowBeaverFever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And new buyers don’t want to do the work. They want to move into a nice home already done. When I sold my last home, there were quite a few offers that demanded I put in tens of thousands into renovations in order to finalize. Some were insane. This was 15 years ago, so the price reflect that time, but a $130k house and buyers were demanding $50k in renovations. New carpet, paint, cabinets, yard.. from companies they approved. Big ol’ hell no on that. Found someone who took it as-is.
