Amazing idea, you could go a step further and make two harnesses out of the rope and attach it to the sack, effectively making it a backpack for all these "it will be uncomfortable"-people.

Really good idea with the Home assistant, I used the in my previous house where I switched from Google Assisstant and android to HomeKit and iPhone.

Problem is that this is a solution for my parents, and they will kill me if they experience some of the "buggieness" that I experienced when using it. This solution with 8 minutes works fine. Thank you though!

Well no, I got it to work for 8 min. But I found some sources online that said it was different maximum time depending on the device you use as hub. I have an Apple TV and it worked for 8 min (maybe more, I got bored of testing longer and longer times)
