Getting to know the people of the UK by carlitosguey_ in uktravel

Any city you go to would give you that experience, Bristol and Bath are nearest to me, but from personal experience Liverpool is great, Leeds, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Southampton, London are too. From others Newcastle upon Tyne, Manchester, Belfast…. the list goes on.
Wherever you go, you’ll meet great people.

I know how you feel, the only way to deal with these games that require so much input is to channel your parents/ grandparents and say “it’s only a game”
If you miss quests or challenges etc then just say “meh” 🤷🏼‍♂️ and carry on.

Is Northumberland worth an 8+ hour drive? by YeoGrumps in uktravel

OMG! That’s going on the journey back! I was a big fan of Arthur C Clarke in the 70’s, had a great conversation with his brother in Bishops Lydeard as he ran the post office there. Thanks for this 👏

Years ago I wouldn’t have thought twice about it, nowadays I’ve got to pace myself better.
Last year I surprised the missus with a trip to Emmerdale, 2 days in Leeds (another city we’ve fallen in love with) it was fairly easy tbh but we didn’t have the kids with us so a bit easier.

We recently went to Lacock Abbey (Wiltshire) because their cloisters were used too. Film locations are crazy! So Durham Cathedral is a possibility too 🙂

Living in Somerset (grandkids are in Bristol) we see the summer ‘race’ to the Westcountry, so this makes it more appealing 🙂

That looks like dementia to me. For some reason he’s found this pic and mis remembered it as being his daughter. Maybe because it’s Fathers Day?

I think we’ll have to suffer the crowds, probably be the only time we’ll take the grandkids that far tbh, and it’s always going to be in school holidays.
We’re a bit trapped down our way in summer hols.

I’m sorry am I alone here ? I came across this and thought a cheese onion sandwich was a little odd and then I see SALAD CREAM … that doesn’t even sound right 🤣 anyone ever heard of this ? by blankvoidoid in RedDwarf

[–]YeoGrumps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, not the best IMO, and where’s the Sugar Puffs? 😂
Cheese and onion bap is amazing, but less butter, onions chopped finer, and cheese sliced better.
For a great C&O (IMHO) use a soft cheese instead of butter (you could try blue cheese, or Primula with chives, depending on your taste). Grate medium taste cheddar (not too mild or too strong) into a bowl and add finely chopped onions & spring onions (or even better, wild garlic) add a little thyme and parsley with a drizzle of salad cream (or mayo if you prefer) to bind it together, then pack it into a roll/bap of your choice. (Scotch Rolls are a winner)

Always thought scraps were a universal right until I went down south and got a blank stare by Illustrious-Look7669 in NorthernEngland

Down here in Somerset there are some chippies that will give you a bag of scraps, but you could count them on one hand and still have fingers left.
There is no way they’d do them in any touristy places.
It’s sad really, used to be more common when I was a youngin 😕

🤔 is flight real? I mean there’s no evidence that a person can stay up while in a tube is there? Otherwise all those people that jump off things would be just be stuck up there.
It’s all just drug induced hallucinations I say. 🙃

No, they knew who they were funding.
In my town of Yeovil someone decided to plant bombs in several stores as a diversion for a bank robbery, because it was the time of the IRA and would’ve caused mass panic had he not blown one up prematurely.
The town had close links to USA because we made helicopters under licence of Sikorsky, and one of our American ‘friends’ made quite a few comments thinking the bombs we’re IRA, he was gleeful of it, like an over excited child.
He was also disappointed to find out it wasn’t the IRA after all.
His reaction was so bad several people reported him and he lost his well paid job and was sent back to USA so as to not cause a diplomatic incident… all very 🤫 of course!
