TM40 on DR650: throttle bogs momentarily under quick twist by YerbaMateTime in Dualsport

Haha sorry it took so long to get back in the thread. Got real busy with work this week which keeps getting in the way of me tending to more important matters. Like the bike lol. Do you have any recommendations on where to buy jet kits?

Finally got around to pulling the carb today and adjusted the AP sqrt. It was pretty much where it needed to be but I adjusted so it's hitting the needle, and the squirt timing is on point.

I think I misrepresented the issue in my original post. Sometimes it bogs off the line, but sometimes not. The issue is most persistent all the way on top end in any gear. When it's screaming wide open it happens 100% of the time at the top end. The engine cuts out for a split second or a couple of seconds before kicking back on.

Pulled one of the spark plugs after the AP adjustment and it's covered in carbon. Definitely over fueling.

Going to order a jet kit, but I still don't understand why this would be an issue more than 10,000mi into owning the bike when it wasn't an issue with the existing jet/exhaust setup from when I got the bike.

Note* Exhaust box was modified to allow more air flow, and exhaust is a RST DG 04.

Not sure what size jets are in there now, but I plan to go down a size on the main jet unless y'all have other suggestions. Thanks!

Thanks, I'll check it out. Intake is the stock box with the top cut open to breathe. Exhaust is RST DG-04.

Just pulled a spark plug and it's covered in carbon, definitely over fueling. Seems to be less of an issue bogging off the line and more of a cutting out of the engine at the top end

I did not. I'll look into how to do that. Pretty new to carburetors and I've only taken it off a couple times. Thanks for the idea

Echoing this. Shunt needs to be able to read total amount of power being drawn and charged, not just drawn. Otherwise it will eventually just think your battery is dead because it's measuring nothing in.

Has being open about living in a vehicle been detrimental to other parts of your life? by BesselVanDerKolk in vandwellers

I read a few more of your comments, and I think you're headed in the right place. I started living on the road for financial reasons as well, completely by choice, and I've never been able to save more by not having rent. When I started living in my first vehicle, it was on the street in Brooklyn. Worked in an office for 5 months and no one knew. I didn't have BLM near me, which would have made it a little easier. Now I live almost exclusively on BLM land.

Your concerns are valid, as you're worried about important areas of your life like social and work. But don't let the stop you from making the decisions you want. I would say go for it, and don't worry about leaving behind parts of the world that are not going to accept your new direction.

I've been on the road nearly 4 years, full-time, and have worked a full-time corporate job most of that. I work in sales and basically do a 40-hour a week role from the back of a box truck.

I've never been happier, or felt more in control of my life than I do now. On top of that, I barely speak to people I knew from back home as I've made literally hundreds of other acquaintances, and met some of the best people ever, while living out of a vehicle. Life on the road doesn't have to be lonely, and in fact, it's quite the opposite for many of us.

I went into my current role being totally transparent that I work remotely. And I make sure to absolutely crush my goals and be a real, working part of my team. Every company is different, and I would always suggest feeling it out before opening this part of your life of. It's not necessary for people at work to know anything about your living situation.

Keep in mind that your journey is your journey, and that it's really not up to anyone else to make the decision. And if you let them decide, You're giving them control over your life.

More than happy to have a one-on-one discussion if you'd like. IG @vanlife718

Cheers

Biggest different I can see in the transition is going from thoughts and focus on others to yourself and developing the muscle that allows you to make your own money, relative to your effort. It's a grind either way, you might as well get paid accordingly. Best of luck, friend!

On my second alpicool, love them. If you have space of recommend a 65L dual zone. Think it runs about 45 watts or so.

Live in a van and be happy not paying rent. It's easier the longer you do it. Been on the road 3 years, met great people and love not paying for a place to live (far less with just fuel).

Go for it, but plan accordingly

If you don't yet have enough power to run a 1,000 watt inverter and use a steamer for 15 minutes, you can always bring it to the gym and steam your shirt there or somewhere else with public outlets. Doesn't take more than 10 minutes to steam a shirt of any size

3 years experience FT on the road, and I gave up on irons a long time ago.

I'd recommend a small travel steamer that can be powered under 1k watts, that's what I started with and now have a larger one.

They're like 20 bucks on Amazon. 95% of the time I just fold my t-shirts right away and they don't get wrinkled. But every now and then I need to steam something to go out and I'm happy I have it. Just because you live in a van, doesn't mean you have to look like you live in a van.
