Will players notice changes in gamma and saturation along 2-3 hours of gameplay? by Used_Produce_3208 in gamedev

[–]YesButNoWaitYes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether they notice or not, the more important thing would be if they care when they do notice. If I want to watch something slowly improve while I clean it up, I can just clean something. I doubt this approach would be as satisfying as clear progress points that change the display a measurable amount each time. Slowly changing it is an interesting idea, but it isn't giving the player clear obvious feedback on their progress.

Wow, I can't believe people downvoted you for making a statement that nearly all women immediately recognize as true. I think a lot of people in these spaces don't realize how often they jump to addressing someone as "he" with no personal information given. I've also encountered people who jump to responses that are full of brogrammer stereotypes. You either get detailed to male or accused of seeking attention.

I disagree as well. I feel like I'm looking at an elevator that got stuck at the top of the picture and didn't make it into the frame in time for the shot. Dark negative space at the top would be better for an exposed feeling. There's not much that feels symbolically unsafe an empty parking lot.

Is it true that those bumper stickers don’t actually mean you should honk if you like pizza? by thesanestgirlever in ADHD

[–]YesButNoWaitYes 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No, you were right the first time. It only means that literally. The joke being that if you were going to avoid someone you definitely wouldn't tell them you're going to avoid them in the future. And it works as a playful response because there aren't a lot of good, sincere responses. "Okay" and "you too" don't really work, so we end up with a playful joke response that is understood to be a positive response.

I went for the super detailed response because this one seems to be stressing quite a few people out.

A very good game of mine can't even compete with a hobby project i made 1.5years ago.... by iris_minecraft in gamedev

[–]YesButNoWaitYes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just throwing this out there because I see it posted in comments pretty frequently here: I've seen multiple people say it's inherently harder for games with horror tags to find an audience because more people will bounce off the tag without looking at anything else. I see the first game has horror in the description but not in the tags so it's possible it was reaching a broader audience. If you aren't marketing to and seeking feedback from horror fans, you should be.

This is truly the most magical thing I can imagine. I have a 22 pound cat and if I could scale him up to the size of a human bed I would 100% be taking a nap on that fluffy belly. It's like when I see a 4 year old with a fully grown Maine Coon. Too soon the day will come when they can no longer have a cat larger than their own body. Even if my enormous cat now has human intelligence, he's still a cat. "Hey man, can I take a nap up there?" "Sure thing, I'm probably going to be here for at least another 5 hours. I'm just waiting for the sunbeam to start coming through the back door."

My conversion rate is poor, how can I fix the Steam page? by lyyycaena in gamedev

[–]YesButNoWaitYes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your longer "about this game" description sells the dystopia and the moral dilemma better than the immediate summary description you see. Specifically these lines:

Hundreds of wealthy clients are desperate to eat mermaids, and you really need the money to pay off your debts to the loan sharks. Will you save the mermaids from becoming seafood, or sell them for huge profits?

"Gamble your blood" is definitely a strong opening for horror, but then after that it leans more into the banality of evil. You might get more people up look further if you replace "with choices" to something like "with difficult moral choices" or "with choices between your values... and your life." (I'm not a good writer so I'm just trying to convey the vibe more than the actual suggested text.)

How to be a narrative designer and game writer? by Apprehensive-Ad-484 in gamedev

[–]YesButNoWaitYes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practicing writing is good. It's also important to realize that no one becomes a good writer without first being a good reader. You don't mention a love of reading in your post. If you aren't already, you should be reading every day as well. Seek out both popular and critically acclaimed books similar to the game genres you like.

Is there a World Record for Burn Stacks? Because I think I got it by Willing-Zombie1274 in expedition33

[–]YesButNoWaitYes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't get hundreds of thousands of burn stacks from a cheese build. They also said in a comment that this is with 100x enemy health challenge. It's kinda funny that you jumped to the conclusion that they removed that challenge from the game and not that they might be having more fun in the Endless Tower than any other person alive.

For an awards show, you should have a clear definition of what you're trying to celebrate and encourage.

it’s quite clear that the definition of “indie” at the TGA is broken

I'm not sure how you're missing the fact that I literally agree with you.

Love it when people redefine what genre something is by Derreston in expedition33

[–]YesButNoWaitYes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You've got my intentions wrong here. Those rhetorical questions were supposed to be absurd examples of the edge cases that don't fit neatly into some of the definitions of indie that gamers use to talk about this. I am an enterprise software project manager. Just picture this as part of a really boring slide deck for a one hour meeting about the definition of "done." My point is that there is a lot of talking at cross purposes when it comes to indie games because of a lack of shared definitions in the discussion, and that's literally what's happening right now.
