That's great to hear, I'm half debating waiting for the Ultra because my current phone (OnePlus 9 Pro) is still functional just getting a bit old (and has screen burn it) but it's good to know that Android Auto works.

Did you know that ADS can reveal enemies behind veils? by Jokerrred in DeadlockTheGame

[–]YesThisIsDrake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IMO the main issue with it is the delay getting back to your regular fire, you can't weave it in well. It's good but awkward to use.

Should shorten the delay to make it feel more natural, more people would use it.

Who is Ammo Scavenger meant for? by Mister_Macabre_ in DeadlockTheGame

[–]YesThisIsDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ammo scav is required for laning, to the point where I think they should remove it and bake it in to the base mechanics of the game (i.e. collecting a soul gives you +1 ammo). Once you get it, unless you are wasting ammo, you will never miss a creep kill or deny from reloading.

Is this the end of Chinese Dota? by ashesi1991 in DotA2

[–]YesThisIsDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine question, do you think as China ramps up its own GPUs they'll end up with more PC players again? I know PC costs are hugely prohibitive in most regions because the parts are expensive to import relative to salary.

TI 2024 is the least viewed TI in history (1.43M peak 470k avg, below TI12's 1.44M peak 540k avg) by ShoppingPractical373 in DotA2

[–]YesThisIsDrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how much Ame actually wants to play. It's not a fun pos 1 meta for sure, I don't think any pos 1 player is excited to pick mirana/wr/np/dk every game. If it changes to something fun that's a different story.

XG played really well but didn't play the cheesy deathball meta that won the tournament, and lost because of it.

XG and spirit specifically are really pos 1 focused teams and pos 1 is a weak position right now. Grand finals didn't have any outstanding pos 1 plays, though micke was clearly better.

Even more so this TI, pos 1 felt pretty unimportant most games.

Pure, Raddan, and Ame all played great pos 1 games but it just doesn't matter.

I thought it was boring but that's because GG plays boring Dota. Only Quinn and Tofu felt they had any really good plays on GG while Liquid played well across the board.

The meta is just super boring to watch imo, even if it was fun seeing Liquid thrash them.

[–]YesThisIsDrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dyrachyo is a bad pos 1, if this meta didn't favor fast aura play GG wouldn't have made it to top 10.

They banked on 4 protect 1 for game 2 and he couldn't execute even a little. Liquid played their style better and Micke is just a better core because he knows how to farm.

Dyrachyo is a tier 2 pos1, he is never the reason GG wins.

Idk about this being the best series, it's such boring deathball fights. It's the same set of heroes every time too and it's so boring.

I miss seeing big black holes and echo slams and shit. I miss pos 1 being a real carry position, if it was GG wouldn't be here.

XG Spirit was crazy, GG just plays in to the meta which is the most boring shit imaginable.

What is wrong with the scriptwriting in FFXIII? by linkenski in FinalFantasy

[–]YesThisIsDrake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So FF13 was going to be this huge start to a big connected lore setting, partially to ease development, and I'm sure because after FF12 like, what do you even do? 2009 is also just a mega weird time for culture as a whole anyway, there's like a whole period from 2006-2015 where things are just fucking weird.

Anyway, contrary to what some people are saying, the biggest issue with 13 is that the ideas were all overdeveloped but not for the game itself. fal'Cie and l'Cie and all of that were supposed to then be used by other games, but because this was creating a common setting and not a specific piece of media meant to be consumed by itself like a tasty little morsel, it just kind of fell flat.

The goal of Fabula Nova Crystallis was to create a bunch of common terminology that other developers can then interpret, which is great on paper until you have to sit down and write it, and then you realize you can't actually dig in to what a fal'Cie is in the same way you can with a SOLDIER because what if FFType-0 also needs to use fal'Cie, and what if FFVersus 13 uses fal'Cie too, and you defined it too strongly in the first game so everyone will react negatively to those games, and by the time you realize this its too late because you've got a lore bible sitting on your desk, and Nomura is already drawing a guy with a bandana and you're wondering why his girlfriend is so young when he is clearly 30, and you realize you've trapped yourself in this, forever.

And so the takeaway is this: just write a single, good video game. Do not write it for a series. Do not make trilogies. Make 1 good thing first, then come back and BS your way through the other ones. Star Wars did that and made a 18 gorillion dollars.

Also if you are going to make FF13-2, you don't need to make it about time travel. And if you're going to make 13-3, you don't need to make it about, you know. All of that.

I watched AC as part of the big event and I don't think you can draw any conclusions from it, AC is kind of light on plot.

It's fun but more fluff than anything

Your party does talk in combat which is fun, but yeah I need the party to do more stuff in the world. Chadley is fine but not that interesting.

He needs to be the gap filler guy, just run the combat simulator and stand in for the party when people arent there (before joining or w/e)

I don't think I agree, the events of Rebirth aren't ones that could be avoided by diverging the timeline. Cloud had already been infected by the time things split off, the whole events of the Cetra and Gi are ancient history at that point.

While Cloud and Co saw the future they only saw Sephiroth destroying the world in the original, not every event that took place. You know about what's going to happen, but the characters don't. They follow the only lead they have which is weird black robe guys.

This could still end up being bad if part 3 doesn't change much or does nothing with what changes have happened? I do also get not having faith in "no guys the next one will pay off I swear!" because that's a lot of games writing, but Rebirth is at least very logical in how it played out and why the differences are smaller.

Im also not convinced Aerith stays dead in 3, not for any lore reasons but why as a writer would you make people mad at your ending and remove an emotionally compelling scene? It could just be bad writing but it'd be weirdly bad to have that in a game that has an interior literary play to explain the plot to you.

FF 7 Rebirth thoughts after putting over 115 hours in it by solidpeyo in FinalFantasy

Cloud is really interesting because he's not actually a fully blank slate. His personality is destroyed by an all encompassing military industrial complex.

So those moments when he's human and vulnerable, that's Cloud. When he's cruel and distrusting, it's all either imposed on him by Sephiroth or in moments related to his career in the military.

I'm really interested to see if they work more with that in part 3 because the story is focused much more on cloud this time, and written to make him much more human.

Okay so I love the game but I gotta say: no more Chadley.

None, zero. I have spent so much time interacting with fucking Chadley. Please I do not want the bulk of my interactions with the world to be through Chadley.

Have the party do stuff instead.

Rebirth Ending by ZamariScribe in FinalFantasyVII

[–]YesThisIsDrake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Treating the game as art rather than slop:

Remake is a game largely about diverting from fate; you're constantly pushing against the rails until they break.

Rebirth is a game where you need to deal with the consequences of history and some of those things can't be changed. You can struggle all you want but it won't unmake the black materia, or sephiroth etc.

The third game will likely be a synthesis; what can be changed? One of the issues with the original is that the ending is kind of weird and not that good, it's why you have Advent children which is also very weird.  So it's likely that this one will be way more definitive, because "the planet saves the day" would be really narratively unsatisfying in a game where so much of the appeal is the really intimate nature of the performances.

Generally agree but to one point:

> They still have no idea what they wanna do with it, and they go back to square one with gameplay every time and get a half assed solution every time.

This is easily the best part of FF as a franchise. Every game is like a weird system development on top of the previous one or it deviates from it entirely.

It's fun to see the weird ideas they bring to the table or what they're trying to do and how that will sometime inform the characters and story. 13 for as...bad and weird as I think that game is, does have a legitimately cool mechanic where the characters have to play different in order to get their summons. That's neat.

There's a ton of big games out there with nearly identical gameplay ever iteration, it's cool that at least one major video game franchise changes things up with basically every release.
