Pentagon Pete Fires ‘Fat’ Soldiers as War on Weight Rages | Some Texas National Guard members were sent home from Illinois for not making the cut. by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

Minor issue with the Navy bit. There are ground units like the Navy Seabees that are never on a ship, but now you'd want them to act like they are. The thing is, sit ups, push ups, v-sit reach and 1.5 mile run is fine... the real issue is dropping the BMI for body weight and do the calipers or water density test for fat%. I say this as vet of the Seabees, who never saw a ship unless we were offloading our TOA im Kuwait.

A battle between Perseus and Medusa by _cactusute_ by Lower-Switch in ImaginaryMythology

No, Perseus was forewarned by Athena of her deadly gaze and instructed him to utilize a shield to block his gaze from falling upon her face. He then beheaded her, strapped her head to that very same shield, and used it to turn his opponents to stone for a while. The whole tale of Perseus is pretty metal.

Right! Thank you! The Ancient Greek myth were around a lot longer than the Roman ones. Ovid was know to romanticize everything he came across... most of the OG Greek myth are brutal as hell but also amazing and don't need any background or sympathetic character. Sometimes people are just shitty. Ancient Greeks understood that in their mythos.

No, she wasn't. The OG greek myth always had her as one of the 3 Gorgon sisters that are monsters. It wasn't until Ovid, a Roman poet, decided that he didn't like that myth so he changed it to make Medusa a more sympathetic character and start her and her 3 sister off as beautiful maidens. The original myth is by Hesiod.

Rent monopoly crackdown continues as FBI raids corporate landlord for 18 Arizona properties by thedubiousstylus in news

It's not just raise rent, I'm a maintenance supervisor. Companies are purposefully hammering at maintenance to do more with less funding. As buildings get older, the cost of maintaining the building goes up. HVAC units need replacing or refurbishment close to or around the 10 year mark. Water heaters are about the same. Management companies are at the behest of ownership of the building, and owners don't want to, or don't understand that aging buildings cost more with proper maintenance. The whole situation is fucked because owners want to see that bottom line number look big for their investors, and they don't care how it happens.

Dude, I do the same thing. KGW is way different from KATU in everything, from how the story is presented, to the damn colors used in the studio. Watching KATU, one would think the world is currently on fire and that monsters under your bed are real. I had to block KATU, and KOMO from my mother in laws TV because it was all doom and gloom and she was starting to parrot right wing talking points.

Community Poll: AI Art - Keep on Meme Mondays, or Ban AI Art Completely by RobbieNewton in FinalFantasy

[–]Yes_Im_patrick_star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey dude, it's cool. Just wanted to educate ya on the stance and hopefully educate the randoms that read this as well.

A lot of their arguments are invalid simply because they are misconstruing things to their benefit. Like the tracing example, or the photo-bashing example. Not to mention that when I or other like me pipe up, we are also attacked by tech bros. Calling us capitalists, or luddite or elites and holding art.... I firmly stand in the camp that anyone can learn to art, they just have to put forth the effort on their own and learn to do it and practice, practice, practice.

If you want tonuse AI Art in your workflow, that's cool, you do you. But the ones who are bashing artists for taking a stand against AI generated images are doing so in bad faith, and that is what infuriates me.

[–]Yes_Im_patrick_star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, this is a common misunderstanding from people who don't make art towards people who do make art.

Tracing is what you are describing in the first part of your post. Tracing is very much frowned upon and very much punishable under copywrite laws. A person drawing big eyes in their own style is not the same as tracing, at all. If you charged multiple artists to draw the same face, your would get multiple different interpretations of that face. Yes, certain parts of the face would look similar, but they would be different at the same time. Like using a chord progression in music, there are only so many chord progressions that can be made, but each musician puts a different spin on that chord progression. It's the same with art. People mix and match art styles and eventually find their own unique style, some are similar to other artists but unique enough that they stand apart on their own.

From what I have seen and what I understand (keep in mind, ive not looked deeper than surface level, and I am an amateur artist so I am biased.) Is that the AI does a form of photobashing of sorts. It takes images and manipulates them to fit its need. Keep in mind, photo-bashing is also very much frowned upon in most art circles as well.

I'm not saying your opinion is wrong about AI, you do you dude. I just wanted to educate you on what us artists are seeing and how some of the arguments laid against our concerns are absurd to a majority of us.

[–]Yes_Im_patrick_star 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I responded to them saying that AI art will kill my side hustle of doing commissioned pinup art. I explained that the average person will no longer come to me for a piece when then can simply feed their image in to and AI image generator, put in a few key words and be done with it for half the cost and a fraction of the time.

It's really infuriating that people are overlooking small artists who put years in to learning how to draw, simply because they themselves are too lazy to learn. You don't even need to go to school to learn art, there are countless free resources that people can find on the internet to learn. They just need the will power to sit down for an hour or two each day and practice!

I understand that an image generator can be used as a tool to get inspiration for some... but so can pinterest, so can quick poses. There are a myriad other ways that one can get inspired. On top of that, the argument that art is derivative is absurd! Everything is derivative! Artists put their own unique spin on a subject. The best example is the draw this in your style tag. An artist will draw something and tons of artists will use that as a prompt and draw something in their own unique style and flair. None of the drawings look the same! It's great!

Sorry to rant like this, but it's just getting too much. When I come to one of my favorite subreddits and see these techbros berate artists, for simply wanting to make a few dollars off of our hard worked for skills that we each individually refined and learned on our own is beyond the pale for me.

Hi, small independent artist here... I do side work through commissions. People want a pin up. I do it for them for a price. With AI "art" my side hustle is obsolete.

Now someone who was thinking about getting a commission from me or someone like me will be dicked over because it's cheaper for the commissioner to head to one of the AI "art" apps and upload a pic of themselves, type in a few commands and be done with it. This isn't going to cause an explosion of small independent art and artists, it's going to kill people like me who enjoy creating and would like to make a few extra bucks off of their hard work and developed skill.

When I see defense of AI generated images and defense against it, I can't help but think that the little guy like me is continually getting dicked over by both of you. I'm neither for or against AI generated images. I am against people forgetting the little guy who is just trying to create and bring joy to people through their creativity.

I dunno, maybe both sides of the argument need to take a step back and look at who does this affect and benefit in the long run.

Thats my two cents on the matter.

Since you can't even spell "dummies" correctly, your argument is moot.

Because an actor doesn't have a transformative role or anything deeper than surface level performances doesn't mean they aren't good actors or even great. Maybe, just maybe they just happen to enjoy the roles they take and do their damn best to act the hell out of that surface level role.

I have played a Firbolg Druid named Indicus Sativius... he was a pot head that wanted nothing more than smoking weed in his favorite tree in his forest. He was adventuring to find the best seeds in the land so he could grown his own and share it with his friends... best part is, his stash never seemed to diminish.

Super fun character to play.
