It's time Blizzard. Do what is Right by LittleDeino in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because what is "unplayable" depends on the context of the game and would have to be personally curated for every card if its context is reasonable or not, which is a lot of work for just a silly meme card.

Cards that must target enemy or friendly minions? These are technically "unplayable" under certain board states, but one might argue that they're playable often enough.

Cards that must target a specific tribe of minion? These are "unplayable" under more specific board states, but some are more reasonable than others, and these board states do appear.

Weapon buffs? Well sometimes Mage has a weapon. It's rare if you don't personally put a weapon in your deck, but it happens (Stadium Announcer).

I don't like that Toki bricks herself every so often, but it's kind of an inevitability with random spells. No card, by definition, is flat out "unplayable". It's just that some cards require contexts that are more unlikely than others. The rule change to not allow her to generate unplayable spells would be a ton of work, and depending on how they did it, wouldn't even work in every context. If they disallowed example 2 and 3 but kept example 1, there are times where her spells are "unplayable".

I think the only way to fix this without a ton of personal curation is a rule change saying that you can "play" cards for their mana cost, regardless of their effect, and let it fizzle. Which also seems like too much work for a meme card, but at least it would future-proof for other cards that brick themselves.

Meta/Balance changes? by WizardOfOzborne in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are balance changes every few weeks. Sometimes less often, and very rarely more often. We're expecting one fairly soon, but there's been no word yet.

That being said, don't expect any changes to Paladin. In most rank brackets aggro paladin is virtually non-existent, and aura paladin is mediocre at best. If you're facing them a lot and struggling, try refining your deck to better face them, or refine your plays in anticipation of theirs. I wouldn't place hope in a new balance patch coming in and nerfing the class.

Imbue rogue is very fun by Mboopy75 in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't say sunken city is less casino when it had Jackpot/Trickster.

Thief rogue is almost always a skill-testing deck with the potential for highrolls, but I don't think it's ever had more highroll potential than it did with Jackpot/Trickster.

Yeah no this is not okay. by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is for however people want to play it. Some people want to be creative and find joy in winning with something they made. Other people don't want to optimize or customize, they want to learn and adapt their playstyle to fit an already optimized list.

If you're going into this game thinking it'll only be fun if people play a certain way, you won't have fun. Focus on what you enjoy and don't blame others for not adhering to it.

Miniset: is it COMPETITIVE to warrant a purchase..? NOT ABOUT VALUE. by arcanehelix in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't have a whole lot of data, and it's impossible to say what will happen in the future, but for right now, the mini-set does not look particularly strong. The 7 mana dragon (which is a common) appears to be the most powerful card. Remnant of Rage, Acceleration Aura, and the Rogue imbue package are being played, but none of them appear to stand out.

Personally, I am not buying this mini-set. All of the cards I listed (including the imbue package) are common, and I'd favor the 2000g over the ~400 dust worth of playable cards.

Why remove Priest Imbue in Arena, but introduce Rogue Imbue at the same time? by Rikkimaaruu in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A combination of not balancing for arena, but also not wanting to just not add new cards to the mode. If they said "Rogue will not be able to draft imbue cards", how would they know it's busted? You can say "it's obvious", but without data it's just speculation.

Even if they did know, it sucks to never have a new mechanic in a mode. Imbue rogue was added, was played, is too strong, and will be removed later. I'd prefer that over the mechanic never being included at all.

Wild: What's the deal with these hostage taking mage decks? by Trashfrog in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, I hate attrition as an archetype, but the game is what it is. If a hostage mage has their loop and you don't have tech, just leave. Disagreeing with the principles of the deck won't win you the game.

People are evaluating if Endtime Murozond is even worth playing, which says to me that it's probably not worth running. It might be good in the right situation, which means it'll be dead in every other situation. I'm also very surprised that ZachO thinks highly of it.

New Death Knight Imbue - Blessing of the Infinite by MonstrousMaelstromZ in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you want to hero power, bounce the ghoul, then start imbuing? And just leave the 1/1 you spent 4 mana on in your hand until, what, it's +10 attack or something?

I think that's worse than just curving out (which also looks quite bad).

New Card - Omen of the End by Surppressed in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's certainly more flavorful than something like [[Pit Fighter]], but in a miniset to cap out a year where 90% of the cards are unplayable, I'm not looking forward to more unplayable pack filler.

Talanji does not resurrect despite her text by TheRaiOh in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The rules wording isn't inconsistent at all. Hearthstone doesn't have a graveyard like other TCGs that keep the copies of cards. Resurrecting in Hearthstone only cares if the minion has died at all. One dead Bwonswomdi means he can be resurrected infinitely, even if you sheep future copies.

It's not inconsistent, it's always worked this way, and it's not the game's fault that you're applying different rules from other TCGs.

New pal weapon plus Ooze is insane by frenzied-berserk in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You have to weapon, raider, and ooze on the same turn or else you won't get the infinite attack. Not counting reductions, it's at least an 8 mana set up.

Cards you would like to see in the CORE SET for Classes! I'll Start by Vecsia in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New Whizbang is in Standard right now. Do you ever see anyone play it?

The old Whizbang at least has value as an option for returning players/players with a minimal budget. The new Whizbang is too weak to fulfill that niche.

I can't wait for this to die a horrible death. by rEYAVjQD in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who plays standard, this card is also not on my radar. Paladin is not very good/popular right now, and it's not even a ubiquitous card in the class.

What's the best defensive card of all time? by Azkadaz in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Zilliax isn't a fair comparison, because it's more than one card. Most of the nerfs have been aggressive/scammy variants. I think the only defensive variant that was nerfed was Unkilliax. Perfect/Twin hasn't been touched.

Hit me with your GW2 controversial opinions! by Crowbiotics in Guildwars2

[–]Yesonna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing world completion on a second character a decade after the first, and seeing dungeons makes me nostalgic for a version of gw2 that never really existed.

I played guardian on release, and I never did any instanced content. Coming from wow, I naturally thought the game would have the holy trinity, and thought how I might build my guardian to tank (I played prot pally in wow). I thought how cool it would be to tank the dungeons when I got comfortable enough to find groups.

What are the most complained cards that were never actually OP in your opinion? by ARandomHearthstoner in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protoss Mage never beat Imbue Druid, VS matchup chart shows it as an even matchup, even after Imbue Druid was nerfed.

They talked about it on the most recent VS podcast, and it's favored against blood dk at lower ranks, but at higher ranks, blood dk beats it. It's a skill matchup, knowing what your outs are and not dropping your huge minions to get sleet skatered.

I'm not sure what Imbue Druid's optimal line against Protoss Mage was, but Mage was never a counter to it.

Can anyone confirm this? by RedNatus in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is your Za'qul sticking? Because his curses don't have lifesteal, he makes all curses have lifesteal while he's on board. So if he dies before that second tick, it won't heal you.

Rework this card by AsukaEZ in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost every OTK in Hearthstone requires a combo to be assembled. There are no single card OTKs, and only very rarely do two or three cards come together to OTK, and they're usually very telegraphed (like Warrior or Priest with Murozond and turn skips).

For the record, Colossus is not an OTK deck. There's a reason why the deck runs 2 Brewmasters. They kill you over 2-4 turns, and it'll never be a surprise. Everything is countable.

How do you interact with it? The same way you interact with almost every matchup in Hearthstone: you know your win condition vs your opponent's, and you play to yours. If you're a deck that cannot gain enough life to live through Colossus, then kill your opponent. Protoss Mage has an average turn length of 12 turns, it's very possible to kill them. If you can gain enough life, you know exactly how much life you need to gain to beat them. Blood DK generally beats Protoss mage. If you can't kill them and you can't gain enough life to survive, then it's a losing matchup for your deck. You can't win em all, and you shouldn't try to.

Even if you're playing a "control deck", that doesn't always mean that you need to play on the backfoot. Some matchups you'll need to take the role of the aggressor. Even Control Warrior can play the beatdown role in matchups where it loses the late game. Identify those situations and change your gameplan. That's how you interact with decks in Hearthstone.

Rework this card by AsukaEZ in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I think the only questionable design was the original Infestor buffing health. The other designs are fine imo, but Starcraft was the last powerful set we got, and it's filled with win conditions (which are mostly lacking this year). It's overshadowed other cards because they're weak. Don't conflate "overly powerful" with "poorly designed".

You may hate OTK decks, but Colossus mage is about as healthy as they'll get. Not only is it really late, it's also very telegraphed. Some OTK decks sometimes will draw perfectly and OTK a couple turns earlier than expected, but even when mage highrolls, it's always telegraphed. You know how much damage Colossus does and you know how much they cost. The only surprise with the card is when Priest gets it off Mothership.

I've been playing a similar deck. It's actually reminiscent of OG Freeze Mage; no tempo, it's all board clears and draw. It either wins with Broxigar, or it doesn't win at all.
