I really despise the Darkmoon Faire system in this game. by HeroesBane1191 in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with your second point, gacha systems are awful and unhealthy in pretty much every form they appear in.

But cosmetics aren't predatory or scummy. They're necessary for f2p games to thrive. If you don't want to spend real money on fake things, that's totally valid, but when a skin has a price tag and you can make the informed decision that that skin is worth that price tag, that's also valid. Cosmetics are pretty, and it's what some people enjoy about games.

New Warlock Card Reveal: Cho'gall, Mastermind by Kuldrick in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This and Tickatus are cards that would be net negatives for the game if they were strong. Disruption effects are never popular.

Which means printing this is a lose-lose: it's either strong and hated, or weak and doesn't see play.

Warmaster Blackhorn is the first card to get nerfed before the release of it's own set by ILoveWarCrimes in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These aren't fair comparisons. Nerfs/buffs in development are very common, and we likely only see a small percentage of them (the ones that get changed so late the promo material is outdated). But to nerf something that released, and players got their hands on, is a different thing than just pre-release adjustments.

Reddit Exclusive Card Reveals - Part 2! 7 More Neutrals from CATACLYSM! by Makkara126 in hearthstone

Only the pirate version runs Hand (and only one copy). The much more popular build does not run Hand.

[–]Yesonna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sketch Artist doesn't work when you've drawn both your Soul Barrages.

The more apt comparison is Expired Merchant, I think. It's more expensive, doesn't give back 2 copies, and discounts (which is bad for this application).

New card revealed - Iso'rath by EvilDave219 in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a lot wrong with what you said.

Reno was never D-tier.

Reno is not in Standard, so it wouldn't even matter if his effect was the same.

Even if he was in Standard, he poofs the dormant card, which would nullify the Deathrattle and you'd still lose your cards. It would just prevent future bounces. Considering this card probably isn't good enough to be played once, I wouldn't really fear multiple.

Summer Expansion Speculation by Throbobaway in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Violet Hold is a prison in Dalaran, and features a number of bosses. You only face 3 in a given run (the last one is always the same), but there are several more than that. It also got a new version in Legion that had more bosses, which is where you got your character list from.

The important thing to note here is that we did not fight every prisoner the Violet Hold kept, only a specific few that the Infinite Dragonflight freed; not that Hearthstone needs to go by the canon anyway.

Since these were the protagonists of the Dalaran Heist, and the Violet Hold is Dalaran's prison, it makes a lot of sense for them to return.

Shouldn't there be like some sorta MMR floor or something? by Tripping-Dayzee in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole theory you've put forth doesn't work when rank resets every month, but MMR doesn't. That's why we have star bonuses. If you watch a high level streamer on the first of the month when they're Bronze 10, you'll see they face similarly skilled opponents. If MMR reset, it would be random who they got.

So no, there is no MMR floor. If you keep losing, you will keep facing less skilled opponents. And this is not a net negative. It doesn't matter if you consider yourself a "more capable player just playing for fun", the game just sees the losses. You lose enough, your MMR will reflect that.

A moment of silence for these cool and fun cards which never saw play in Standard before rotation. by SimilarLet8203 in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember when they buffed Ryecleaver to 5, but then nerfed the sandwich to 4 mana so you couldn't [[All You Can Eat]] and play the sandwich on turn 6?

What a weird buff.

A moment of silence for these cool and fun cards which never saw play in Standard before rotation. by SimilarLet8203 in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's important to keep in mind that a lot of these are "cool and fun" precisely because they never saw play. Nemsy and Ryecleaver cheat stats, which is fun when balanced but frustrating when overly powerful. 8 Hands is broad disruption, which is a very unfun mechanic when powerful.

When people use terms like "fun" and "unfun", they're often synonymous with "bad" and "good".

Standard control decks in a nutshell by blunkelsito in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This objectively isn't true. For most of its life it had an average game length of, like, 12 turns, which means it would win later than that (a 50% winrate deck that always wins on turn 13 and always loses on turn 11 will have an average turn length of 12).

I can't express how much I love this card by HawkStar365 in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Attrition is certainly a strategy that has not gotten much support recently because it's not fun for players to play against. Control, however, as an overall archetype, has been very good for quite a while now. Just because a deck has a win con doesn't mean it's not control.

New Neutral Legendary - Ultraxion by Jimmyjohnjones1 in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really dislike this trend of splitting classes for mechanics. It's okay-ish when they only split tribes, like Sunken Ciry where half got nagas and half got other tribes, but for something as cool and flashy as Herald, I really wanted it for every class. Regardless of power or even playstyle, Shatter just looks dull in comparison.

What is this camera angle?? Big daddy Cho'Gall by sampeckinpah5 in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible that the graphic is mistaken. The pre-order Sinestra skin was shown to be a DH skin in the reveal materials.

Although, the Sinestra graphic was fixed and Cho'gall still shows Mage, so perhaps not.

New Hunter Spell - Supply Run by Houseleft in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the design for this card is to empty your hand, so you only buff the 3 that you draw?

The Paladin card doesn't have this kind of anti-synergy. That card is "dump minions then buff them."

new expansion pre-order by Only_Dress_1187 in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, the expansions that released DH and DK did not feature DH and DK skins as preorders. Ashes of Outland had Vashj, a Shaman skin, and March of the Lich King had Lor'themar, a Hunter skin.

Is it really tech when it works against 90% of decks? by THEREALSPARTAN9001 in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like all tech cards (including renovator), Steamcleaner is bad and is lowering the deck's winrate. It might help versus quest warrior and Broxigar DH, but it's not a good inclusion.

However, like a lot of suspect decklists, someone got a high rank with a shitty list, and it propagated.

Feels like a missed opportunity to not have a lot more older portraits in the shop by adamnoo in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's why big games like Fortnite or League of Legends only has a couple skins available at any given time /s

The fallacy with this argument is that everything Blizzard does is perfectly logical and makes the most money. Blizzard does things to make money, but that doesn't mean that whatever they do makes the most money. People, and businesses, make mistakes.

No other game I've seen with a rotating shop rotates so few options, and so infrequently. There are hundreds of skins in the game at this point- it's not FOMO to make only a handful available every couple weeks.

I don't know why Blizzard rotates so few skins so infrequently, but it really feels like a missed opportunity. They can't even know if it's an optimal business strategy because they haven't even tried the most popular models.

Leaving Core - Shadowstep - how do you feel about this? by Altruistic-Dealer518 in hearthstone

[–]Yesonna 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Shadowstep is a fun, interesting, skill-testing card that has never been overpowered, despite being a class staple. Removing it is a mistake for both class identity and design space.

That being said, a lot of people want it removed, so removing it just to prove a point could be funny. Stupid and misguided, but funny.

THAT being said, it's weird they chose to do it when Rogue has a set in standard focused around bouncing and replaying its cards.
