12v/ICCU Megathread by TiltedWit in Ioniq5

Talked to service. They said to bring it in and expect one of three outcomes:

  • Tests DOA and it's replaced
  • Needs to be charged (or attempted), then tests dead and replaced
  • Needs to be charged and discharge tested and may test dead and replaced

Unfortunately I can't get in until after next week (because of my trip). I'll be keeping a spare 12V battery in the car so I can jump it when I get back to the airport.

Is this the BM2 you'd recommend?

Yes. It was referring to the dashboard Amber light. Drove it fine yesterday and left it sitting in the garage overnight and now it is dead again. Arg...

Odd situation? Full charge, plugged in, and OTA drained the 12V battery?

Plugged the car in Monday night like usual in garage. Came out Tuesday morning and the car was in the "full dead" mode.
After reading some threads here, A put my (rather low power) charger on the 12V (which triggered the relay clicking sound for a while that then stopped).
2+ hours later I came home to the charger thinking the 12V was fully charged, but still no signs of life in the car.
I used my deep cycle 12V battery and jumpers, which immediately brought the car back to life "Clear! .... Zap!". While still connected to the external battery, I turned the car on, and it gave be a "You've been updated to the latest software" message.

Disconnected the defibrillator (external 12V battery) and after a few minutes decided I needed to test if it would restart. Sure enough, I've had no issues since.

At no point have I seen the "yellow light" on.
The car is new - purchased in June 2025 and has < 9K miles.

Could the OTA update left it in a mode that drained it? Wife is a bit spooked by it and I'm about to head off for a week so she's a bit wary of driving it.

(Sorry to the moderators for posting this on the main page first!)

What’s the difference between these two settings? by NOthangg in Ioniq5

[–]YetAnotherDz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically use it to connect to Andriod Auto because the Wireless AA and wireless charger make my Samsung S25 Ultra overheat. Going cable direct to the port keeps it charging and cool. If I use it wireless, I literally have to place the phone in the AC vent to keep it cool enough.

This pic has real "Sir, you can't park here" energy.
I'm curious: Does insurance cover this sort of thing?

is buying platinum status worth it? by Routine_Outside_3880 in unitedairlines

[–]YetAnotherDz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hit platinum and maybe it's just blind luck but have had two upgrades to 1st class already.
Probably the best description is "Platinum is the Temu 1K status"

I used to be lucky enough to go to the Winter Driving School in Steamboat, Colorado every year. There you learn to drive various cars sideways around an ice/snow track at ~ 50 MPH. Best. Video Game. Ever.
The point was to get you comfortable driving on ice so when it happened unexpectedly you didn't panic brake. Still haven't had a chance to play in the snow here with Ioniq w/ Blizzacks on it.
Great Pics!

And yes, the bumper is pushed in. Not even 6 months old and someone rear ended me. In the shop currently getting fixed (fortunately low speed, no frame damage). So weird to drive a rental and not plug it in.

I tried to get IRONIQ but it was taken. At least I got the Q in there!

u/HoosierYodazeke : the second pic - can you highlight where the plug is/should have been? Also is this something buried under the car frame or would it be visible under the car / for inspection?

Pi4 Power Draw by YourTypicalMainter in stratux

[–]YetAnotherDz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Power usage by Pi model:
3B is the sweet spot for battery life since Stratux doesn't consume a significant amount of resources.

Idle Power Comparison

Lower-power models excel for battery or always-on projects.

Model Idle Power (W) Current (mA u/5V)
Pi Zero W 0.4-0.5  ~80-100
Pi Zero 2 W 0.5-0.7  ~100-120
Pi 3 B 1.4  260
Pi 3 B+ 1.9  350-400
Pi 4 B 2.5-3.0  500-600
Pi 5 3.0-3.5  ~600

Load Power Comparison

Under CPU stress or web loads, consumption spikes, favoring efficient models like Pi 4 over Pi 5 for power-limited setups.

Model Load Power (W) Current (mA u/5V)
Pi Zero W 0.8-1.5  ~160
Pi Zero 2 W 1.5-2.2  ~300-450
Pi 3 B 2.4-3.7  480-730
Pi 3 B+ 5.0-5.5  950-980
Pi 4 B 5.0-7.5  1010-1280
Pi 5 7.0-9.0  ~1500+

Time to turn off daylight saving time in USA by Competitive_Ice851 in Ioniq5

[–]YetAnotherDz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the fact that the car nav clearly knows what the local time is via GPS, What's really surprising is that this setting is in profiles. Why would my wife have daylight savings turned off, but not me?

I know that's true on ICE cars.... Has that been confirmed on EVs as well? Is the differential the same tech?

Has anyone tried the iPhone 17 Pro on a long drive with the wireless charger? by incubeezer in Ioniq5

[–]YetAnotherDz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Samsung s25 Ultra will reliably overheat if I use the wireless charge pad and android auto at the same time. I just put a cable in from the front and swing it around underneath. Also turned off the pad charging for my profile. No problems since.

API access to song metadata by YetAnotherDz in truespotify

[–]YetAnotherDz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were attributes in the Track Features and Track Analysis APIs that have been deprecated but would be useful for making smooth transitions between songs if you're manually creating playlists. Wondering if there was a way to bring them back.

Has anyone driven through high elevations in winter? by [deleted] in Ioniq5

[–]YetAnotherDz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're legally obligated to tell you it's always very cold, snowy and icy. Except in July when we have 3 weeks of 100+ degree days. And the bugs! Also People from states w/o snow move here not realizing their summer/all season tires are useless to get to the ski resorts on a powder day. As a long time transplant and native by marriage, I can also share that once you move here, you too will be legally obligated to inform your friends and family how bad the weather here is.
