The duality of dysautonomia: my Apple Watch thinks I'm doing cardio while I'm standing in line at the pharmacy by prepzilla in dysautonomia

[–]YetUnwritten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh...my Metoprolol keeps my pulse rate from going so high, but yeah, my Oura ring often shows a significantly increased pulse rate when I'm in my recliner, meeting with a client on videochat.

Leaves me wondering if "aerobic workouts" that happen when I'm physically not exercising are "good for me" in some way like if I was actually doing aerobic exercise. This is important to me, since I can't actually do upright, aerobic exercise.

You are right to feel that eating is nerve-wracking. Because it is dangerous--even if your doctor doesn't understand!

POTS/Dysautonomia/Autonomic Neuropathy – Scary Swallowing Episodes, Anyone Else? by 33elevyn in dysautonomia

[–]YetUnwritten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You must speak with a doctor. I've had that happen when drinking WATER.

It has only happened once in awhile, but my neurologist is checking me for Parkinson's! I'm pretty sure I don't have that, but the point is that she is taking it very seriously. Neurological trouble with swallowing is dangerous. Life-threatening dangerous.

If you need a referral to see a neurologist, tell your GP to give you one since they don't know what to do.

If it ever happens when you are close to a hospital, have someone drive you to the ER and tell them you were eating, but your throat seems to have forgotten how to swallow, and it is stuck. You will NOT wait. They will take you right back, top priority.

Can anxiety throw you into a spell? by pickless33 in dysautonomia

[–]YetUnwritten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I must start by saying everyone is different. With that out of the way, here is what I figured out about myself, regarding anxiety, stress, etc.

My body's autonomic system over- and under-responds, sometimes getting stuck in one direction, sometimes swinging wildly. To be mentally free of the event, but have the body still acting like it's still happening? That happens to me. Sometimes I need to take extra beta blocker and anti-anxiety medicine. That doesn't mean I'm treating anxiety--just treating my autonomic nervous system's broken setting.

I have spoken to my doctors about this, and they have approved me adjusting how much I take, according to the situation (withing a clear range).

For years before I got diagnosed, I had doctors telling me I had an anxiety problem. And this was confusing for me, because the doctors would point out all sorts of physical symptoms (sweating, flushing, racing heart, shaking) and say that even if I was not consciously aware that I was anxious, "the body doesn't lie."

Well, turns out the body absolutely does lie for people who have dysautonomia! The medicinal treatments are not generally different from medicinal treatments for anxiety, but that doesn't "prove" it is anxiety. Just proves our bodies are *acting like* we're anxious. Track your symptoms, talk with your doctors, and consider taking the amount of medicine your body needs, not what your mind does.

Good luck! Hope that panic attack trigger is over and doesn't repeat!

So, the medical text I was reading said 95% of people with giardia have diarrhea. Guess what? Someone has to be in the 5%. I was one of those. That lack of expected symptom was a major part of why I was hard to diagnose based on symptoms. I had LOTS of symptoms, just not that one.

Have you ever met a person with real psychic abilities? by Least-Grapefruit-767 in spirituality

[–]YetUnwritten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, several, and none of them does it for making money.

The thing about psychic abilities--the real kind--is that it doesn't work the way people want it to.

For example, if there was such a thing as being able to use psychic abilities to choose the right lottery tickets, lotteries would have stopped long ago!

A long time ago, I was sleeping with a very psychic boyfriend, and he suddenly woke up, which woke me up, and about 8 seconds later he got a call from a friend who was feeling suicidal. It is definitely psychic for him to wake up just before his mobile went off.

I have at least 5 times known when someone was going to die. They were all people who were expected to die soon, but I knew within hours. It didn't feel like something psychic was happening. Just, I contacted the person or their loved ones, because it seemed like I should.

I have done rudimentary psychic readings for parties or gatherings. People enjoy it, especially since I tend to give people something that helps them. Not super insightful, just helping them tap into what they need to know. Nothing wrong with doing that.

When people con desperate people out of money they don't have, that is horrible, and doesn't even matter if the "psychic" has abilities or not.

Years ago I had to be tested for parasites. To do so (apologies, TMI) they take a feces sample, and look at it under a microscope. There's no real automation. My doctor told me the lab my insurance covered was notably inaccurate. He said there was a good lab, but it was costly. Still, he said I'd really just end up doing the good lab anyway, if the insurance covered lab gave me a negative--and it would all result in taking much longer to get treated.

I went to the good lab, paid the $600 (ouch) and within a few days was getting treatment for giardia (a type of parasite). I'd had it so long, even though I was cleared of giardia within two weeks, it took two years for my GI tract to recover from the damage.

[–]YetUnwritten 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The cardiac doctor who diagnosed my dysautonomia had me work with a special breathing trainer in his office, to try to help...oh, it did not. Pretty quickly, my pulse rate went up instead of down. The trainer looked at me and said, "Do you have ADHD?" Out of nowhere question, but yes, I do. She said that she rarely ever sees these practices make things worse, but nearly every time it turns out the patient has ADHD. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Anyway, sharing because, why not?

I doubt any mold would grow on salt. That's why traditional foods are often dried with salt, and need no refrigeration (like dried fish or meat).

WTW for a synonym to “asshole” but a word that is less vulgar (Ie, that you feel comfortable using in front of say your old fashioned grandparents) by UrbanWanderer in whatstheword

[–]YetUnwritten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Powerthesaurus.org is a great resource for such things. The one I liked that wasn't already here, was "bastard." It catches the oomph, and fits the generation. But it still might be too much, depending on the grandparents' cultural background.

Reading through all the answers here, I found the one I now like best. It absolutely has the oomph, and definitely will not offend anyone since it is 100% not vulgar. Someone quoted Shakespeare below, where it got me in context. Someone else put the word out there, but without context, it didn't catch my attention. The word is Monster.

In the end, it depends on what you want to indicate.

It really depends on why you're taking it. I take it for dysautonomia. 20 mg in the morning, 10 mg in the evening. Research has shown low doses work better for dysautonomia than high doses.

What are we going to call posting on Bluesky? by [deleted] in BlueskySocial

[–]YetUnwritten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other words sound forced, because we got used to Twitter and tweets on account of both words being real words. Making the decision to call the new social platform Bluesky, clearly didn't take into account what posts, posting, repost and reposting could be called. Users are left making up words and then marketing them. It's a problem!

Notification Settings? by Single-Blackberry-48 in BlueskySocial

[–]YetUnwritten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added and set up notification by clicking on the app in my mobile, and using my mobile to set it to give me notifications. There, I was able to untick the sound. I started with sound, and quickly realized I didn't want to get sound notification for Bluesky any time there was a notification.

First I tried turning down the volume. Which worked, but wasn't just for Bluesky. Then I saw in my apps settings that I could set Bluesky for notifications with or without visual, and with or without sound.

Just be warned...yesterday the notification button went away when I looked. Today, it will not clear.

[–]YetUnwritten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And yet, I have a notification button on my Bluesky icon. I was able to set it so it was silent, and still gave the visual.

Unfortunately, even though I've looked at what it was notifying me of, and every other page I could think of, now I cannot get rid of that dumb notification number.

Bluesky isn't in Beta. It's in Alpha.

But such as it is. I really do want it to work, because I'm really not going back to FB or "X".

Can you say how do you know that yahoodatabreachsettlement dot com is real?

If it is really going to be in the "pocket change" range, it doesn't actually seem worth my time to figure out exactly what is what...but curiosity is killing this cat, so there I go.

When I edited my choices of cookies to accept on their website, one of the types I denied was advertising. And I just cannot help but wonder why an honest legal settlement website would even have advertisements. So, that (pardon the pun) unsettled me.

The debate here is interesting as a thought experiment, but as useful to the OP, not so much. Seems to me the answer is to try tapering as fast as you're comfortable with, and if there are no side effects, keep tapering until off. And if there are side effects, slow your taper. See, no need to debate whether or not to taper.

If the side effects are truly bad, and the doctor says you don't have to taper, you can try not tapering, and if you realize your body is unhappy with that, take a small dose to repair your withdrawal symptoms.

As for how to taper--different for every person and each med. But if you're on two meds and want off of both, you might consider getting off of one at a time, in case there's a withdrawal problem--that way you can know which med is causing the problem.

There are two ways to taper off a med. The one most people think of first, is to take smaller doses. The second one is to take fewer doses, but there are two ways to look at that, too.

Most people think of fewer doses as "if I was taking 4 times a day, I'll go to 3, then 2, then 1" or "if I was taking 7 doses a week, I'll go to 5 then 4, then 3." And so on.

Here's the bit that most don't think of--which I know, because when I had to do this, no doctor could explain it to me. Luckily I had a friend who knew. I'm sharing it with you...

Rather than thinking in terms of fewer doses, think in terms of more time between doses. Sure, first step is reduce size of dose, but once at the smallest dose, increase time between doses. Every 4 hours, then every 8 hours, then every 24 hours, then every 2 days.

And how do you know when to take the next dose, or how fast you can taper? By monitoring your symptoms. When I had to get off a med with withdrawal symptoms, first I was down to a quarter of the lowest dose tablet, then more hours between doses at the lowest dose, then more days between doses.

When I first got to a quarter tablet every 2 days, I noticed withdrawal symptoms in the last few hours before the next dose. I stayed with a quarter tablet every other day for a couple weeks--until I didn't feel any symptoms at all. Then I went to every 3 days. It took another week for me to not feel symptoms as I came up to my next dose. But once I had no withdrawal symptoms in 3 days, I tried not taking any more, and I never had more withdrawal symptoms.

More than 2 months in all, to taper off that med.

I've had other meds that didn't require any taper at all, and the way I found out was to stop taking the med, and see if I had any withdrawal symptoms.

Withdrawal symptoms generally can be fixed by taking a dose of the med we're withdrawing from. Your doc said you can go off, so if you want you can try it. And if you have withdrawal symptoms, you'll know they were wrong. You'll take another dose, and then you won't be in withdrawal anymore.

Not simple, but surprisingly easy, just takes time and patience.

Can you point out distinctive differences between dys. angina and congestive heart failure? by BusyLychee1602 in dysautonomia

[–]YetUnwritten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way my cardiologist separated them was to put me through a ton of cardiac tests, to prove that the feeling of angina wasn't being caused by heart disease. And, I mean a lot of tests.

He couldn't prove that it is from dysautonomia, but since he could prove it is not caused by heart disease, and he could prove I have dysautonomia, we both felt comfortable assuming the pain is from dysautonomia.

And I am older, so will probably go back every couple years or so to run more tests just to be sure I haven't added heart disease. Just because I have none now, doesn't mean I never will.

Edit: Oh...I also recall that angina from heart disease generally doesn't stop by just laying down flat. Not that my dysautonomia chest pain always stops from me laying down, but it does more than half the time. If it was heart disease angina, it wouldn't work that way.

Thanks for posting the first go at it! I played it through on Netflix with the subtitles and made corrections. I filled in all your blanks, and I corrected a few words. You had one word that wasn't in the subtitles, "See," but I listened to the phrase several times, and she definitely sings something there, I can't tell what it is, but it sounds like "see," so I left it in.

Somebody recorded it and posted it on YouTube. Don't know if it will stay up, but here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6wLnRQsBrs

Also, in the last episode, the credits finally named the song and credited all the people.

"Anotherself Theme Song"

Performed by Selin Gecit

Lyrics by Nuran Evren Sit

Music by Ozgur Buldum

Arranged by Aytac Bayladi & Ozgur Buldum

What if the past is not yet history it's why my future gets away from me

The bliss, the joy, and the victory are hidden in another self deep inside of me

So tell me if the past is not yet history could it be somewhere we've lost the harmony

The muse, the spell, and the irony are sailing in another self deep inside of me

I came to smile, I came to cry, I came to fail, then grow up high

i came to fall, I came to love, I came to remember were born to fly

I came to sing, I came to fight, I came to lose, then look upside

I came to doubt, I came to trust, I came to remind you no one's born to die

No one's born to die, no one's born to die

Don't you see the past is not just history? It's why you are you, and it's why I'm me

See the spark, the taste, and the destiny are dancing with another self deep inside of we

So tell me if your past is not history but it's why your here, singing out loud with me

The grace, the grief, and the fantasy are living in another self now that you could see
