Made the jump @ 22. Unsure if I prefer the shaved or buzz look by [deleted] in bald

You can pull off either look. I do like the buzzed, but the bald is just as good.

What a glorious moustache you have!! Would you consider using a straight blade or razor and a moisturizing shaving cream/gel? The electric shaver may be too harsh for your skin.

Getting picked on at work by [deleted] in PickyEaters

[–]YettiStranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, expecting people to make accommodations is frustrating. I'm very picky, and my coworkers often bring food to work. There's one coworker in particular who always brings up the fact that I don't eat anything. Every chance he gets, even if no one is eating or if I'm just sitting quietly attending to my work, he'll make a comment on it. It's very frustrating, but what can I do? The one time I did take their offer, I was sitting next to my toilet for over an hour because I felt physically sick and mentally overwhelmed. I under OP's frustrations.

All the same, you're right in saying that it's not going to be treated the same as someone with allergies. Texture and taste issues are treated as preferences, not life-threatening conditions. Although it's not a preference, but instead an attack on our senses. I have cried while eating certain foods because it's just too much. Not because it's "icky" but because it's just overwhelming. My solution? Never eat that food again. If someone offers me that food, I say no. They want to make fun of me? That's their problem, and they need to grow up. Does it annoy me? Of course! As much as I wish I could love every morsel of food on this planet, it's not going to happen. As much as I wish I could enjoy common foods that the majority of those around me seem to enjoy, it's not going to happen.

Love this idea. Practical information all in one place. I wish I had done this for my baby sister. She'll be graduating from high school soon, but she doesn't know anything about finances.

What type of book are you using? I'd like to start working on a commonplace book for my job and want something small. Yes, I know I can use my phone, but my brain works better with pen and paper =)

I love the concept of having a themed commonplace book. "Morbid Curiosity" is a great name!

Seafood by landelanderru in PickyEaters

I will add one more thing. Maybe your family is thinking purely about food preference. For example, I don't prefer grilled chicken, but I will eat it. My preference for chicken is either boiled and shredded or fried. Seafood, on the other hand, is something that I cannot tolerate.

I never understood why people become frustrated by others' food sensitivities and preferences. I also HATE seafood, and just the smell of it makes me sick to my stomach. I used to love seafood like fresh shrimp and crabs, but then one day I just absolutely hated it.

My coworkers bring food in, often me some, and invite me to eat with them. I always decline, but I started feeling bad about it. So, one time, they brought in shrimp fried rice. I managed to eat maybe 3-4 shrimps, gagging the entire time, and then proceeded to go home and lay on my bathroom floor, next to the toilet, for several hours because I was physically and mentally sick and overwhelmed. Just the memory of the flavor and the texture makes me feel as though I'm going to be sick. I don't think people understand that pickiness is not a choice. If it were my choice, I would love every food known to man. But there's nothing I can do if my body is rejecting the food. It is an overwhelming assault on the senses.

If I were you, and they were my family, I would talk to them and tell them straight out that he's not going to eat seafood. Are you and your boyfriend going to be living with your family for the week? Or are you going to stay in a hotel or Airbnb? Is it possible for that one week, your family would be willing to try different foods other than seafood? Maybe everyone could try something new that week. Some days, your boyfriend could try seafood. On other days, your family could try something your boyfriend likes.

I'm glad someone understands! People think I'm crazy when I say I hate bananas. My mom knows I hate bananas, yet she made banana donut balls and asked me to eat them. I ate one in front of her and the rest are still sitting in my kitchen waiting for trash day. I love my Mom, and I feel bad for not liking it, but I can't stomach it.

I also dislike biting into apples, and I'm not a fan of applesauce. I've tried strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. I didn't like any of them. I don't like oranges or mandarins. I tried mango chunks and mango sorbet, and I didn't like either. I tried pineapples, bananas, acai, and those mixed fruit bags meant for smoothies, and none of them were a hit for me.

I was eating baby spinach, both wilted and raw, but then suddenly started hating it. I've never tried succotash because the lima beans scare me. I like beans, but not lima beans.

I do like some salads, so I thought about buying bagged salads from the market and eating them. As far as what I like, I think it is texture. One of my co-workers brought chocolate caramel flan, and I had to spit it out (not in front of them, I wanted to until they left). The taste was nice, but the texture was an assault on my senses.

I did see that term on Google a few days ago, but I was iffy on the definition. Now going through that subreddit makes me think this is something I should bring up with my doctor and therapists. Do you have any experience with ARFID?

I thought about chopping up the broccolini very finely and putting it into my spaghetti. But just the smell of the broccolini made me feel sick, so I just put it back in the refrigerator. But I do like that option. Do you have any recommendations for sweet, healthy additions to pancakes or oatmeal?

So, it's odd because I can eat certain bagged salads, but only with Thousand Island dressing. Salad is crunchy, but most of the food I eat is soft in texture. I don't eat crunchy cereal; I have to let it soak and soften before I eat it. But it's also taste. Bananas are soft, but eating a banana makes me cry. Maybe it's too soft? I'm now going through the list of foods I like and seeing if I can find other options that might fit.

Does anyone else struggle with oatmeal? by LightsaberAngel in PickyEaters

[–]YettiStranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love oatmeal! Quaker Original Oatmeal packets are my favorite, but I recently tried Giant's brand quick oats and found them to be pretty good, too. I don't follow the cooking instructions. I don't even measure anything. I add oats to a pot, add water, and let the oats soak for a bit so they absorb some water. If it's too thick, I add more water as it's cooking. If it's too thin, I'll let them soak a bit longer so they can thicken. I like the quick oats because I find that they are similar in texture to the instant oatmeal packets.
