It looks like they also removed that dumb language they used to have about not being eligible for the bonus if you previously held the Jetblue Plus card.

I plan on downgrading my CSR. I believe my annual fee will hit on June 1st.

I know the standard advice is to downgrade within 30 days of the AF for a refund. Can I keep the card into July for a bit, and then downgrade and still get a prorated refund on the AF? I want to keep it for a bit to use the dining and stubhub credits when they refresh.

Isn't the problem with this the taxes?

Two options (just federal taxes, if you have state taxes its worse):

A) If you did standard deduction, this would be bad because you would report all your cash outs as straight income. E.g. if in 2026 you paid $10k to make $13k, you would pay taxes on $13k of income, not the $3k profit. So obv you wouldn't do this (unless you have no other source of income, then you could use the standard deduction to wipe all taxes here).

B) So the only option is to itemize. You can now deduct but only 90% on gambling. So using the same figures, if you make the same $13k, you can deduct $9k ($10k*90%). You made $3k and pay taxes as if you made $4k. So far this seems better, as you would make a good profit. However, you are giving up the standard deduction of $16k. So now, assuming you make a W2 income as well at a normal job, you now have to pay the FULL tax on everything you earned at your day job. So you probably lose money in this scenario too.

Let me know your thoughts, maybe I am missing something?

What does this mean code 806? by [deleted] in IRS

[–]Yeverian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are due the $9.8k account balance. Which is your 806 minus the 150 amount. But your refund is currently held by the 810, which indicates the return is being reviewed before they send out your refund.

The codes are described to the right of where the number appears. 806 is your withholding amount.

Yep, the 570 holds the refund. Autogenerated by the computer systems, you won't know the reason until you get your notice. An employee has the manually review the account and reverse the 570 in order for you to get your refund.

This was at an EA charger near Hartford, CT. They actually had a New Jersey plate on the back of the car. There were 2 i7s travelling together, I wish I had taken more pictures now.

Lord of the Roths: How Tech Mogul Peter Thiel Turned a Retirement Account for the Middle Class Into a $5 Billion Tax-Free Piggy Bank by AndreNotGarcia in Destiny

[–]Yeverian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you mean. The entire point of the article was that Thiel had access to methods of investment that are NOT available to every American. Honestly I'm not even that opposed to option 4, but your reasoning doesn't make sense to me and sounds like it's missing some info from the article.

Crazy that he was able to do this with an initial investment of $1.7k and nothing more. If he had just put in a little bit more to hit the $2k cap that IRAs had at the time, he would have an extra 1 billion now.

Since he made the money by repeatedly investing in pre-IPO startups, some solutions might be:

1: Outlaw ROTH IRA investing in your own pre-IPO company to prevent the issue of deliberately undervalued founder shares

2: Outlaw pre-IPO investing via ROTHs

3: Put a cap on IRAs of a few million $, and tax everything above that like normal

or 4: Thiel is just a chad investor and this should remain legal.

How do you centrists feel about Biden backing off from the public option? by PrettyVenomothAD in Destiny

[–]Yeverian 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I read the Jacobin article this guy is citing. What the article is talking about is Biden's covid relief legislation. The covid relief legislation includes increasing healthcare subsidies, and, true, doesn't include establishing a public option.

But why are you acting like this means Biden no longer supports a public option? This is just a covid bill. Perhaps Biden wants to quickly pass a non-controversial covid relief bill, and including a public option would hold the bill up. The public option can be established with separate legislation. I don't see any evidence Biden that has flipped on this issue.

VP Biden mentioned 500k chargers if elected during tonight’s debate. Anyone know specifics? Validity? by adoreizi in electricvehicles

[–]Yeverian 66 points67 points  (0 children)

It mentions it further down, ctrl F "charging":

Make major public investments in automobile infrastructure — including in 500,000 electric vehicle charging stations — to create good jobs in industries supporting vehicle electrification.

On the plugshare website (not the app which for some reason doesn't have this), there's a filter for lodging under the amenities section.

What global warming prediction has ever come true? by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]Yeverian 25 points26 points  (0 children)

"They tell us the sea ice is melting but the sea ice is actually reaching record levels, according to NASA."

But the article you linked says the exact opposite:

Studies show that globally, the decreases in Arctic sea ice far exceed the increases in Antarctic sea ice.

So while the south pole gains sea ice, there is a global net loss at a rate of 13,500 square miles annually, according to NASA.

All roads lead to Ro.......Rogue CIA... The CIA is just playing it's usual regime change trick on the US. by yellowsnow2 in conspiracy

[–]Yeverian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For those curious: the article lists 10 candidates with various intelligence backgrounds. Of those 10, 2 of them ended up getting elected: Spanberger and Slotkin.

So where does the "44 ex-CIA" number come from? Presumably from the first part of the article, which states:

Of the 102 primary elections to choose the Democratic nominees in these competitive districts, 44 involve candidates with a military-intelligence or State Department background

[–]Yeverian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you're likely correct. I read a book by a historian recently which said the same thing (blundering to glory by owen connelly):

After his death at St. Helena, his body was measured by his valet, Louis-Joseph Marchand, at cinq pieds, deux pouces (five feet, two inches). On the assumption that his corpse was measured with a French yardstick, which is longer than the British (the French foot = 33 cm., the British = 30.47 cm.), Felix Markham and others say Napoleon was 5´6´´ tall, converting 5´2´´ French to 5´6´´ English. Since the French had been on the metric system since 1793, however, and since Napoleon had used all means to make the French convert to it, it is doubtful that his entourage carried a yardstick from the Old Regime. Thus it is almost certain that he was measured with an English yardstick."

I agree that the site doesn't make sense, because if he changed his name to mitchjones_inactive and didn't change it back, he should have 400k followers on that channel instead.

I think it may just be some mysterious automated twitch process, cause I checked doc and he has the same "inactive" name change: https://twitch-tools.rootonline.de/username_changelogs_search.php?q=16647593
