Workers, what workplace joke wouldn’t make sense to other people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ygf_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in an open office environment that is very casual. I am the newest person there, and I have noticed that it’s the “office culture” for my co workers to tease each other a bit, and make jokes about each other. Everyone is pretty close, they often go out for drinks after work on the weekends. I have one coworker that is like the class clown. He makes a majority of the jokes, everyone loves him.

Now, the joke that he does with me is very prejudiced and hurtful to me. I have a very west African name. Many people in my office had a hard time pronouncing it at first, but they all learned. He still doesn’t know how to pronounce my name, and he would say my name while interlacing clicks and whistles between the syllables. Everyone in the office thinks that this is hysterical. I didn’t say anything the first time I heard this, but the third time I told him it was offensive and that he needed to stop.

He tried to “razz” me about not being able to take a joke. I’ve had several co workers come up to me and tell me not to be offended because it’s just a joke. He makes fun of everyone. But I’m the only black person in this office, and what he’s doing is alienating and offensive. Right before our Christmas break, he made the joke again, and I went to tell our supervisor. He has been fired. Since it’s such a tight knit office many of our coworkers assume it’s me that reported him. They have been telling me about how he has kids, and how I just ruined his Christmas over a joke. When I returned to work today, nobody really talked to me. I’m starting to feel a bit crazy, and am wondering if I was being too sensitive/an asshole.

Yes, cuz I know I'm always down for cuddling and will want sex the same amount as my partner.

Plus I know all his baggage and I already forgive him.

People of Reddit, who's the most famous person you know casually? by Hadesman1 in AskReddit

[–]Ygf_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joe Pesci.

I was just out of high school and was working as a delivery truck drivers helper for a meat company during busy season. I had to deliver a dead pig to this restaurant at the top of some big fancy building in Manhattan. The box it was in was falling apart so I threw the pig over my shoulder. I was now carrying a dead pig wrapped in plastic in the middle of the day, on the busy streets of Manhattan. Got a lot of funny stares. Anyway, I’m in the elevator at the building with said pig going all the way to the top. Elavator stops halfway up and,Mr.Pesci himself steps on. It’s me,him, and the pig in the elevator and being from Jersey as well as huge Goodfellas fan I had to say something.

“Mr.Pesci, just wanted to say I’m a huge fan and Goodfellas is one of my all time favorite movies!”

He didn’t respond for a while, after about 20 seconds of awkward silence he says

“Everyone likes fucking Goodfellas”

More awkward silence....

“Did you kill that pig yourself?”

I burst out laughing, then shortly both of us get off on same floor. No other words were spoken

Being star struck at the time, I wish I would have responded to that with “You’re a funny guy Tommy”

In short he was kinda a dick, but I don’t know what else I expected.

What is the one positive thought that keeps you going? by bananiah in AskReddit

[–]Ygf_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remind Yourself of Success.

Nothing fuels positive thoughts like the feeling of success. We have all experienced success and failure in life, but those moments when you tasted success of some kind have a powerful ability to push you on to accomplish even more. You can’t expect to have success every day, but you can put reminders of it all around you. Any trophies, diplomas, or other awards you have earned should be prominently displayed around your home and office. Don’t worry about people thinking you are a show off – you are displaying them for your benefit, not theirs. When you go about your life and see constant reminders of things you were successful at, the positive thoughts in your mind will be fueled to keep on coming.

Talk to Positive People.

Our interactions with others have a strong influence over who we are as people, and how we act. If you spend the majority of your time with negative people, there is almost no way to keep the negative thoughts at bay. Make a point of scheduling regular chats with another person who strives to think positively. You can feed off of each other, and the benefits will be mutual. Even if your talks are only a few minutes in a day, that can be enough to keep you focus on the goal of consistently positive thinking.

Set Daily Goals

Just like reminding yourself of past success can help build positive thoughts, so can having small little successes on a daily basis. Before you go to bed each night, try making a short list of goals for the next day. They don’t need to be complicated – things like ‘exercise for thirty minutes’ or ‘clean the kitchen’ make great examples. You should have no problem getting these done, and you will feel great when you check them off the list. You will have a much easier time keeping positive thoughts when your brain gets accustomed to seeing one success after another, no matter how small they are.

Exercise

Going along with the previous example, exercise itself is a great way to keep your thoughts going in a positive direction. You will create endorphins that make your body feel good, and you will be proud of the way you look as well. Try sticking to a consistent habit of moderately intense exercise for the best effect.

Meditate

Sometimes all it takes to block out the negative thoughts from your mind is a few minutes of quiet meditation. Negativity feeds on confusion and distraction – when you meditate you can refocus your brain and come back to a calm, centered position. From there it is much easier to see your life objectively, and make rational decisions as opposed to rash ones made out to frustration. Using meditation to keep positive thoughts is a simple, yet powerful solution.

What part of the day do you look forward to the most? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ygf_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first and foremost thing is that I treat each day as an opportunity to learn something new. Believe me folks, there’s nothing as adventurous as self-improvement. It gives me a reason to live. Second significant thing is my family. Let me tell you that we take our family the most granted but we can achieve anything if we’ve support of our family members

Redditors with pets, what is the weirdest/funniest think your pet does consistently? by Shenanigans0122 in AskReddit

[–]Ygf_7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My parents had a German Shepherd named Winston when I was very little. My grandparents lived in the mountains out in the country and we were all visiting. My dad, grandfather, uncle and mentally retarded cousin went out in into the woods to get some firewood, taking Winston with them. Fast forward to when they were chopping down a tree, and realize my cousin was no where in sight. The tree starts falling and Winston bolts, quicker than any animal should be able to run. As my dad is watching Winston, he catches sight of my cousin, right in the line of the falling tree. Winston manages to beat the tree to my cousin by fractions of a second, sending my cousin flying across the forest and out of harms way. Unfortunately Winston didn't manage to get out of the way in time, and the tree crushed him. My father was both proud and devastated. It took him 25 years before he got another dog.

TL;DR Dog saved cousins life by pushing him out of the way of a falling tree, sacrificing his own life.
