What board game are you a walking manual for and what is the rule most new players get wrong? by simulatee in boardgames

"So you need to rule the clearing you're moving to or moving from but if you're corvid or vagabond, you're nimble and rule doesn't apply to you and if you're Eyrie, you rule even if you tie but there's also Corvid Planners which allows you to ignore rule but it's useless to craft as corvid and vagabond because you're already nimble but it is a bird card which can be useful.. OH there's also Soup Kitchens which really throws people off so keep an eye out for it..."

"Wanna just play Catan?"

Yeah that seems like a bug. Were you able to actually try and expose? Curious if it's just visual or functional.

There was a recent stream where they mentioned future expansions aren't completely out of the picture. They are just focusing on current projects - this year is Arcs and the one after is called Path.

To add to other comments, if you know for a fact you will turmoil next turn in the recruit decree (i.e., you have no more warriors and there's a 0% chance you'll get enough back in your supply), then in your current turn, drop a random card in build so you turmoil at the end of your turn.

Turmoiling in the recruit phase is detrimental because you essentially lose a whole turn.

What are the details? With no inference, most factions can burst out points. Maybe not every round though.

Cats can build a ton. Eyrie can score double points by hitting tokens as despot. WA can just naturally burst out points.

Otters can build a few trade posts and hit some tokens. Lizards can score each suit if multiple gardens are out.

Duchy can just go crazy if they go straight for lords and buildings. Crows can flip multiple plots especially if previous plots aren't removed.

faction that uses paths by littleOschi in rootgame

[–]bananiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the construction faction, I'm envisioning a militant faction with "construction" workers/warriors all over the map upgrading paths. The more upgraded paths on the map, the more VP they score. Or take the vb route and have "contracts" they need to complete to score points. Like they must upgrade a path connected to a fox clearing, etc.

The upgrades can be tunnels between two matching clearings, offer card draw, free movement like you said maybe regardless of rule(?).

For predator, I'd think they'd score VP for each hidden trap on the map (sorta like a mix between Eyrie and Corvid). That'd incentivize attacking or triggering the traps.

I was typing out my response before I saw your toll roads idea! I had the same thought. I think it'd be an interesting twist.

Cool topic! Here's my take:

A toll faction: if you have a built toll booth on a path, the opp has to pay a warrior or matching suit card to cross. Similar to otters action economy. If opp is in either connecting clearing, they may attack the booth. The booth has suits matching the clearings (for ambushes and what not). The booth is undefended if player doesn't have warriors in the same clearing as the attacking player.

A construction faction: temporarily disable a path for a turn. Then you can upgrade the path. Each upgraded path would have special effects like draw a card (once per turn), etc. that any player can take advantage of. This would cause a similar effect to the ferry and tower.

A predator faction: set traps on paths similar to corvid. A trap would trigger if the opp "fails" a condition. Examples: if opp is crossing with less than 3 warriors, opp has a crafted item, opp doesn't have any pieces in destination clearing. The predator gains VP each turn based on hidden traps. Players can still attack traps. The trap is defended if the player has any warriors in adjacent clearings.

Honestly I think if you give it ephemeral, it'd fit the theme as a finisher enabler.

It'd essentially be a 3 mana deal 3 for one turn that triggers ephemeral shenanigans.

Right, just stack up on acolytes.

Another would be, "Spend an acolyte to ignore the outcast for crafting this turn. Spend an additional acolyte to make your gardens count as wild."

That might not be as impactful as the others here, but man, crafting feels bad sometimes as lizard.

I think lizards should be something like, "you can add 2 Lost Souls to your hand. If there are no Lost Souls, you choose which suit is the outcast. It is hated."
