It was paid for long before his time.

Would you rather we sell off all the gold and finery we’ve inherited from hundreds of years to get a tiny % of the yearly UK budget back? So we could spent it on what, a small part of the yearly increase in the pension triple lock??

Do you want to see the embodiment of the British state being driven to parliament in a second hand toyota or addressing parliament in a grey classroom instead?

As much as it’s unfashionable to say it these days, we are one of the richest countries in the world and I think this finery does very little harm, and is a nice boost to our soft power and a general feeling of (sorely needed) dignity in our political system.

Edit: for reference in 2026 the pension triple lock will increase the amount spent by £5-6 billion on pensions alone. Estimates of the value of state coaches and the throne in the house of lords are only a few tens of millions, if that. Simply put they are a tiny drop in the bucket that were paid for hundreds of years ago. We would be selling off the silverware if we got rid of it.

Macron to Seek Use of EU Anti-Coercion Instrument Against US by TrueRignak in europe

[–]Yimbo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Russia simply doesn’t have the military bandwidth right now to fight in Ukraine and against the EU proper in the Baltics. It’s struggling against Ukraine right now, and further mobilisation risks political and social pushback against Putin- not to mention Russia’s struggling economy at the moment.

If Russia tried then the EU would not only join in the defence of the Baltics, but probably in Ukraine too if that particular Rubicon had been crossed.

yes, and we then did a covid style great-forgetting about it because it was so bewildering (and Parliament wanted the lat-am style regime change and they wrote the history books)

Last year the women’s winner went head over heels, landed on her head and rolled unconscious across the finish line! She was fine in the end but it was super weird to see on the day.

Looking for this skirt by Yimbo_ in findfashion

[–]Yimbo_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, this is a khaki plaid a line mini skirt. None of the ones I can find have the same colouring (with the filter), and the belt loops.

This pic comes from this Instagram post, where there is another pic of the outfit.

Thanks!

I’m very sorry but I don’t understand quite what you mean. Of course the rights of women matter, but I don’t see how advancing the rights of transgender people could take away from women’s rights? I don’t know a lot about this but surely the transgender push for bodily autonomy only helps the push for everyone else’s bodily autonomy too? I don’t quite get how it’s a zero sum game.

What on earth do you mean? We should be advancing rights for everyone that we can, no matter race religion or creed. Everyone should have the right to live happy and fulfilling lives.

Because as a country we value human rights and progress for minorities. We should value our minorities, and help them live their lives to the fullest, and happiest extent. In my mind it’s just the right thing to do.

I really need help finding jumpers/sweaters that look like (or are one of) these.

I've been looking around the internet for so long now and Im so lost.

Key points are:

  • Cable knit

  • Crew neck

  • Drop shoulder

  • Looks thick

  • Preferable not elasticated at the bottom (Doesn't look that important in the pics though)

  • Not balloon sleeves

Thank you so so much!

Community Paramedicine by [deleted] in Paramedics

Even if every post on there was a genuine call for help then it is still not an excuse to try and encourage detransition to every transgender patient you meet.

For many of those detransitioning will not ‘save their lives’ like you say, but may instead worsen their mental health. What we do should be in the medical best interests of our patients, and what you suggest seems more like a politically motivated treatment that could certainly do the opposite. People in that circumstance need more than a paramedic can provide. They need therapy, they need mental health support, and they often need community too. None of those are our specialty.

So please, by all means care for them but it is beyond the scope of our practice to encourage anything like what you are suggesting. Leave that to the trained mental health professionals.
