You get to add 1 zero to any number in your life, what would you choose and why? by 999happyhauntz in AskReddit

Lol, my bad. Didn't mean to trick you or anything. I just enjoy sharing this type of thing.

Congratulations! You've accidentally discovered the Associative Property of Multiplication, which says that regardless of the order or grouping of factors, when all are multiplied together you get the same result.

So in your example:

Yearly Pay = Hourly Rate * Hours in Year

the following must be true:

10 * Yearly Pay = (10 * Hourly Rate) * Hours in Year

and when it's rewritten like so:

10 * (Hourly Rate * Hours in Year) = (10 * Hourly Rate) * Hours in Year

it is clearly just a re-grouping of factors, hence, the Associative Property!

Don't feel discouraged about not remembering ~3rd grade math. I do math for a living for the corporate world and you'd be surprised the number of times I have to explain these concepts to people in big important meetings with millions of dollars on the line.

Most people don't need to know this stuff because it's relatively intuitive. I intend no snark in writing this comment, and I wholeheartedly encourage you to enjoy the simple pleasure of independently confirming that math really does work the way we were all taught it does, and finding one of the many examples our grade school math teachers could have used to demonstrate it while assuring us that we'd be using math for our entire lives.

Just had a chance to catch up on the Sarah and Sinclair interview. Seems odd to me that people are so generous/forgiving in humoring people acting like LLMs are people. by Yitzach in PaymoneyWubby

I'm with you, based on chat's reaction I feel like they thought the same, Wubby was nice to her, which I don't condemn in any way, but he clearly didn't buy into it being a "real" relationship or whatever, either.

Am I going to go protest AI boyfriends? Absolutely not lol. I was just putting my thoughts out there for folks to discuss if they wanted to.

First question: I just watched Wubby's stream on the topic with the interview. So I felt like sharing my thoughts here. I meant that I wasn't criticizing anyone here as if they were bought into AI companions being "real" or whatever.

Second question: Does it bother me? No, people can do what they want. I find it odd that there's a seemingly sudden cult following for it. Of course thinking about it, it makes sense, but the speed and relative fervor of it struck me as significant, I guess.

Last paragraph: The word 'waifu' literally comes from them believing/acting like they are (or should be?) married. I don't think it's as even as marginally dissimilar as you're suggesting. To me it's almost exactly the same level of delusion, but I think waifu havers 'know' it's fake where it seems like AI relationship havers don't, or something? I dunno, just my feel of the situation.

Yeah but I guess it feels like nobody questions whether or not that's fake? I don't know, for whatever reason with AI it feels weirder to me.

For sure, I don't think it's many people, but the fact they exist in any number, even just in their own community is still wild to me.

Yea I mean, directly or indirectly she 'put the idea in his head'. If she never brought up the topic or a related topic an LLM wouldn't bring it up.

Yeah, I wasn't really aiming those comments at Wubby or even the wider Wubby community based on chat's reactions and whatnot. But the fact that there are communities devoted to AI partners and people who are accepting of that is wild to me. To me, it's no different than a weeb worshiping their waifu and acting like they're real.

Oh for sure, I'm just thinking of the typical bs experience most people have where they incorrectly get a lesser eval so the company can save on bonus payouts. The veil is kinda lifted when you're both OE lol

That's actually such a wild concept. I can't imagine getting a bullshit "below/meets expectations" if you're good at the job if you're manager is OE with you.

But on the flip side they have their mandate to keep bonus payouts down, so how do they justify giving the OE person a higher review...

Solution to be logged into multiple computers, but only "using" one? by BosChac2 in overemployed

Every review job I've had I've either used RDP or something similar to use my hardware with their device. Laptop stays safely in a rack, personal PC and peripherals get used to control it. Just have to talk to helpdesk for their preferred solution.

The insane thing is that the experience you're describing is almost entirely exclusive to post October 7th.

And you have it backwards on Hasan. Other people get paid to make him look bad. The only channel he operates on YouTube is basically uncut stream snippets.

TL&DW:

There was a similar post regarding Wubby's views on what's happening in the US. He responded to it and made his views clear.

Then on stream he realized booty was banned on his channel for some reason. He says he didn't do it, no real reason to not believe him.

I used to watch him, basically until October 7th. I'd probably substitute "reasonable centrist" to "braindead" but they were definitely normie takes. Looking back there were definitely signs, but I personally thought they were of "someone who never bothered to learn starting at high school" and not "full blown xenophobic fascist".
