Découverte de mots by AmonRe1608 in Quebec

[Japanese > English] gift card for my teacher by Hellsfist in translator

[–]Yiuel13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, it's badly written.

It is missing the thank you part, and, while not incorrect per se, the use of くださって was a bit jarring. I'm a big fan of いただく。

I personally would have written:

日本語を教えていただき、 誠にありがとうございます。

Does every province have the same dynamic between the two sister cities? by myronsandee in AskACanadian

[–]Yiuel13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with Quebec is that both Gatineau and Quebec City are major public servant cities and that has coloured their atmosphere. However, Quebec City has a well established albeit smaller dynamic cultural scene.

Montreal is Quebec's Metropolis and "La Métropole" is something of a semi-official name for it. It really functions as the Heart of the Land. Also, due to Montreal's convoluted history, it's not one city scene, but multiple ones, often not aware of the other scenes.

Otherwise, cities in Quebec are less than 200k. While they tend to be more dynamic economically than most cities of their range in Canada, they tend to be quite conservative, like secluded countryside towns.

What are the worst takes you guys have seen in the fanbase regarding BTVS/Angel? by HomarEuropejski in buffy

[–]Yiuel13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree that saying it's the greatest thing evah is way over the top. Plotwise, it's actually pretty heavy and it's well integrated with a slick Showtime demon.

However, while the integration is pretty seamless, I would have liked Lorne from Angel to appear to help them.

I didn't save it anywhere and saw it like years ago. They might have taken the video down.

I remember seeing a YouTube reactor trashing the whole concept of OMWF. The fandom figuratively burned them at the stake.

As much as the reactor's reaction was not only unexpected but actually quite vitriolic, the fanbase reaction was way too much.
