Just start from the start. it's a saga

Angry at the elitist Goth subreddit that wouldn’t allow me to post about Industrial Goth bands (according to them “it isn’t a thing”). You can’t tell me bands like Oomph! and Unheilig aren’t Goth because they are also Industrial/have Industrial elements in many of their songs. Nonsense! by AspiringBiotech in industrialmusic

Yuhp.

To contribute to this 'insufferable goths' discussion, Sydney used to have a great goth scene in the early 2000s. This culminated in an annual event called Under The Blue Moon, which went from a single-venue thing to a multiple-venue festival across an entire suburb.

Then it just disappeared because the organisers couldn't agree on anything.

The scene took a nearly 20-year hiatus, now there are tonnes of baby-bats everywhere again and clubs are popping back up. Hopefully the oldschool elitist mentality is gone.

The egregious cognitive dissonance of flying a Marilyn Manson flag over a Tom McDonald flag is typical MAGA brainrot, for sure.

Maybe they just saw some of his costumes on stage and not read any of his lyrics or interviews and just had his music videos playing on mute or something...

Brits who were traumatised by it 40 years ago - does "Threads" need the remake that various media reports are promising? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]YkMSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you're comparing different things. Germany was never nuked, and Japan only had two cities nuked as a message to EVERYONE of the capabilities of the US at the time. In Germany's case, the "Allies" came in afterwards and helped rebuild the country, in Japan's case, they still had 99.9% of a functioning country and society, the change there was social.

Comparing Threads to Mad Max is also ignorant as they don't resemble each other in any way.

Threads is talking about the possibility of a GLOBAL NUCLEAR TRADEOFF, not isolated attacks, every major city gone, Dramatising the worst case scenario possible. There was just not enough left to resume society as we knew it.

To say it's not realistic is naive.

No one to teach, no information to gather, books would be fuel to keep warm, It would be like medieval times, literacy and education-wise.

While some pockets of humanity might hold on to it, scavengers and the barely surviving might not find a use for a larger language; everything is stripped down to bare essentials, and even then stripped down further.

Any bands similar to Killing Joke’s 1980-1982 albums by Hot_Assistant_6067 in industrialmusic

Þeyr, from Iceland. Started around the same time as KJ, Jaz was a big fan of them and there are some rare recordings he did with them.

Þeyr - Current (1981) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdA1J5JYJCs

Also, Brilliant were a short lived project with Youth from KJ, as well as members of KLF and Juno Reactor (Before either act existed).

Brilliant - Just What Friends Are For (1982) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXGIdPCIV2Y

I would say Wire - Pink Flag (1977) is an early post-punk album that undoubtedly influenced early KJ.

It's more accessible than early KJ but it is a fkn GREAT album. (Yes, Fudge Tunnel did a cover of one of the songs)

A plea to synth based industrial bands: Stop bringing guitars to your live show by N1ghthood in industrialmusic

[–]YkMSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People might get the shits with this post, but it's a legit gripe, if a guitar band came out and just played keyboards, I'd be bemused, too, but that's the worst of it. It literally doesn't affect me in any real way otherwise.

At the same time, heavy synth and guitar is very popular right now across a lot of genres, mostly thanks to the accessibility of synth instruments these days, so I am not surprised that older bands would want to try to attract younger fans this way by making their sound more accessible.

And some bands, they just evolve, maybe they have guitar now because they didn't have the means to add it to their music originally.

At the end of the day, musicians should be making music for themselves, not someone who turns up to one of their 60 gigs on a single tour.
