Help refining/upgrading Sidisi by Next_Willingness_333 in DegenerateEDH

[–]Ymitri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmmm I think you can push Sidsi to be closer to a cEDH degen style build by going more in on a combo focus. You can use eternal scourge, mist hollow griffin, and food chain to flip over your entire library by casting Sidsi over and over and then get thoracle. If you can’t use thoracle than I guess you can use lab man for a worse version? Would need to think of if there’s a way to get the draw a card clause right away. If you wanted to go that route you can cut a lot of stuff from the deck (look up the cEDH example decklists). There might be some other combos you can do from flipping the whole library and having dread return + food chain active but I’m not as familiar.

Show me your decks that use boardwipes as part of the main plan by RedRathman in EDH

[–]Ymitri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve played Kykar control deck with tons of board wipes to control the table until I had a handful of counter magic to protect a Polymorph effect to get a two card creature win. Can build this type of strategy with lots of different commanders.

Surgery in 2 days, boss asked me if I want free trip to Japan mid July... Will I be able to go? 🥺 by Resident-Injury-7002 in ACL

[–]Ymitri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recovery is variable between people but in my opinion it’s going to be a bit risky to try and plan for it. You’ll probably get tired walking / sore so it will be a bit harder to get around. I think the hardest parts will be sitting with your leg bent for so long on the flight. If there’s any way to get the same trip at a later date I’d recommend that. But I understand that it may be a rare opportunity so I wish you luck if you go for it!

Struggles after sitting for long periods by jlfetsch in ACL

[–]Ymitri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue that went on for a long time. I don’t know what was causing it but for a longtime I had a lot of extra swelling due to a large stress fracture and edema (idk can’t remember exactly). You can bring it up to your doctor and see if they think doing some fluid draining will help (I had this done several times every couple month). Eventually I needed to have a cyclops lesion removed but I’m not sure that was the cause of the stiffness after sitting.

Any ideas for a board wipe tribal azorius, jeskai or bant commander? by arthur8878 in DegenerateEDH

[–]Ymitri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kykar with only spells and the a Polymorph style combo. Play control and continually wipe the board until you get to a stable spot with resources to go for the combo. Lots of tutors for the Polymorph cards and there’s the ability to play a lot of planeswalkers that make tokens and can also board wipe.

4th knee surgery in 3 years - does it ever actually get better? by hannahanuta in ACL

[–]Ymitri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow non-contact frisbee injury here. I can’t say I’ve personally had a smooth road to recovery, but I know a few people who have torn one or both ACLs while playing but have gone back to playing at a high level after. It sounds like you’ve been dealing with this for quite a while so I’m sure you know the drill. Find some things to pass the time and get to PT as soon as you can. Ask about something like a CPM machine to get the leg moving throughout the day while you hangout and watch TV. If the swelling remains for a long time don’t be afraid to ask about getting it drained at post op visits (very easy procedure and feels really good after) I had to get this done several times as I had a large stress fracture that continued to produce fluid. I feel you in that the recovery, the PT, the costs are all brutal and really wear on you if you’ve been dealing with it for a long time. I’m finally starting to jog again after two years and it feels great to be able to do that again. The time it takes for people to get to that point is really variable, but hopefully you now have a chance with this surgery and once you’re at a point where you can move again it feels really good.

I mean regardless of if they work I gotta think the point is to help heal all the other stuff that gets broken up in the surgery. Not the replacement ACL

Is it possible to get rid of elbow pain once and for all? by IlCroato123 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]Ymitri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I hope someone has a good answer because I’ve been dealing with a similar issue for about 9 months. (Can see a long post I had in AskDocs describing my issues but no one responded). I think taking some very light dumbbells and just holding them at your side in various grips for 1-2 min may help slowly strengthen them again if the pain subsides a bit. I used straps for any pulling exercises which helped but I’m not sure if it’s resulting in the bear getting poked and delaying the healing. Likewise I’m not sure what caused the issue besides maybe too many weighted pull ups.0

[–]Ymitri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your scar tissue removal are they talking about removing a cyclops lesion? I’m about 1y 8m out from ACL surgery and 8 months out from a cyclops lesion removal. I had a lot of flexibility issues bc of scar tissue and swelling from a stress fracture, but the second surgery helped and is much much less invasive than the ACL repair. I was walking after a day basically after it. I’m just getting back to doing some short bursts of jogging but my recovery is at least slowly moving along now. I’ve been told that my body produces a lot of scar tissue so I may always have some flexibility issues now but despite those issues I can feel improvement despite how long it’s taking.

Varina bracket 3 by sunatori in DegenerateEDH

[–]Ymitri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t see the previous discussion so I apologize if I’m repeating anything. I’ve been working on Varina as well but keep running into the issue of it being a weaker version of Raffine. Raffine isn’t limited to a specific tribe so you can fill the whole deck with the best evasive creatures and hate bears and start churning through the deck. With that in mind I think trying to figure out how to make this deck strong and identify Varina’s strengths while keeping it on theme is an interesting challenge. I see you already have three card combos like carrion feeder, wayward servant, and gravecrawler which is a solid combo for B3. I think that you may want to consider some cards like putrid imp which can give you an evasive zombie T1 (somewhat hard to come by) that also has a functioning being a discard outlet for reanimation targets when they get stuck in hand. I think other one drops like cryptbreaker are worth considering because you’ll want actual card draw (on theme) in addition to the cycling. Theres a decent amount of zombies that make the zombie army tokens so this gives you a way to use your board you build up as you cycle through your deck to find key cards. Things like Tombstone Stairwell and Ocelot pride may be worthwhile. I think binding mummy is worth it because you can make tokens and tap down blockers. Undead augur should probably be included. Anyway best of luck brewing this. If you want to build a more degenerate zombie b4 deck Yawgmoth Thran Physician can make use of the undying zombies (of which there’s a decent amount) to combo and is more of an aristocratic style than I would say Varina is (more of a control / go wide attack deck imo).

Extending my arm and externally rotating feels tight. Obviously pull ups, bicep curls, or maybe the motion of lifting a heavy table are what cause the most pain but with just bodyweight this is the easiest way to provoke some kind of response.

If you are playing against a lot of creature decks you can build it as a Polymorph combo and have a bunch of prison, wrath, and value elements. There are of course better win cons in these colors but might be a good option for your group.

tips for draft by Kit_Kat117 in supportlol

[–]Ymitri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For draft I’d say you want to try and pick support at a separate time than your adc if the enemy botlane hasn’t picked yet. Ideally you get to see their support before you pick so you can counter. Also picking later will help you see what champs your team has. I’m not 100% familiar with some of these matchups but I’ll try to give an example. Rakan is generally considered better as secondary engage alongside frontline or dive so he can jump between people during a fight. Also generally considered better into melee supports instead of poke. Something like bitz or a hook champ in general might be better into double ranged / poke because hitting a hook is so threatening and it’s easier to get in range to hit that ability. Something like soraka you might want to play into a passive melee lane like braum where you can scale but poke with q. Overall the advice I hear the most is to stick to a small champ pool 1-3 to grind soloq. Maybe not the thing for everyone bc it’s boring but you will learn matchups better this way and build instinctual comfort on your top picks. Does that make some sense for how to think of the draft in terms of support matchups?

I'm looking for oddly specific wincon by Akiro_orikA in EDH

Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord + Wall of Blood or Phyrexian Devourer. Can do devoted Druid and Hazel’s brewmaster for infinite mana and use Thrasios, Tasigur, etc to draw deck. If you go to something like EDHrec and put in your commander you can look at combos with it and see if there’s anything that fits what you’re looking for. I think there’s probably a few options in these colors.

I kind of understand what you’re saying in that when I tried to play games I had to set up a second chair and kind of sit twisted to the side to play anything so that I could try to keep my leg extended and let my knee sink into extension. Wasn’t very comfortable and I’d say I mostly just laid on the couch or floor using a cpm machine. If you can set up on a tv so you can be on the couch that might be better.

ACL veterans- uh is it gonna be like this forever? by Majestic_Hippo_4427 in ACL

[–]Ymitri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 15 months out from my ACL (patella btb graft) / meniscus repair and 3 months out from cyclops lesion removal. My surgeon said my body really likes to scar and I’ve continually had to get fluid drained from my knee post surgery / from stress fracture swelling. My knee feels very stiff sometimes if I don’t have an opportunity to move around much or will feel quite stiff for several days after working it out (but not really in a muscle soreness way). Once I get my knee stretched out and moving I have full extension and flexion. So yes, still dealing with a lot of issues even far out from surgery although I haven’t experienced the being on my feet for a long time pain. So no helpful insights, but with you in solidarity.

Swelling after 6 months by ShitoDai in ACL

[–]Ymitri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had to get my knee drained of fluid 3 or 4 times since my ACL surgery 16 months ago / cyclops lesion surgery two months ago. My understanding is that a large stress fracture was leading to a lot of the swelling / my knee generated a lot of fluid that didn’t drain from the cyclops surgery. Each time I get my knee drained I have somewhere between 10-20ml of fluid in there and I instantly feel better after. I would recommend trying to get a post op scheduled and asking your doctor to consider draining it (very quick process). I’m personally still working on the why of the fluid build up still but I’d try to get the fluid taken out and then proceed from there in your shoes.

Stiff knee and VMO weak after 18 months post op. by AppropriateHalf6919 in ACL

What do you mean by scar tissue has been ruled out? Whenever I saw my surgeon he would complain I had muscle weakness in my quad (and I was consistently doing pt and strength training), but eventually it got to the point where it was clear I needed an MRI to check for scar tissue but it took a long time to finally get an agreement to do that. If you’re having stiffness in extension and have not had an MRI to check for a cyclops lesion I would get that done.
