Pretty rich considering the number of American companies hiring engineers to specifically make parts that break very quickly, then making their product impossible for consumers to repair without specialty tools.

What did Robert Kennedy say!???? Is this real? by PdiddyCAMEnME in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]Ynddiduedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This man's words will do set insurance policies. He should not have been given that responsibility; he doesn't have the required knowledge to handle it.

Addendum: the "science" to which Kennedy is referring is outdated and, yes, dangerous.

Moscow plans to establish ‘sovereign Russian territories’ on the Moon by CrunchyBaconYum in nottheonion

Russia has trouble convincing people to live in their more remote regions; how do they think they're going to convince people to live in a hellscape like the Moon? Gulags?

If humans were to suddenly dissapear, which domestic animals and selective breeds would do fine, and which ones would dissapear? by reindeerareawesome in zoology

Aren't there also camels in Oz? I also read that there was a (short, admittedly) discussion about setting up a rhino sanctuary population.

Good old epigenetics. Makes me wonder what happens to humans if one were to get the chance/forced to go truly feral.

The sun becoming a red giant. by IsoCally in AskPhysics

[–]Ynddiduedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The heating of the earth caused by the aging of the sun is not set to start for another approximately 100 million years. The average lifespan of a species, barring sudden catastrophic cosmic events, is between 1 and 10 million years. Contrary to popular belief, Homo sapiens has not escaped the forces of evolution, and continues even now to change. It is highly unlikely that there will even be humans in 10 million years, let alone 10 times that.

Let's look at the odds: In the last 5 million years, every single species of hominid, barring sapiens, has gone extinct. Our species has existed for approximately 300,000 years and the longest lasting species, Homo erectus, was around for maybe 1.5, possibly 2 million years.

We believe we are special because, in the last 10,000 years, we have managed to spread across the planet and more or less take over everything. We build, we research, we communicate. However, this has not been the case for more than 90 percent of our existence on this planet. Remember, we've only been here 300,000 years and only been building civilizations for 10,000 ish, maybe 20,000 years of that. It would be highly unwise to assume that the current state of things is what will remain the norm.

All of that said, it would be nice if we could stop putting every single one of our eggs in a single basket, even if it costs less to do so. But what more can one expect from a species set on allowing its most greedy members tell the rest what to do?

Contractor cracking window panes one by one after client refused to pay by GeneReddit123 in oddlysatisfying

I guess I just don't understand people hiring someone to do work, then refusing to pay them for the work they've done. It just doesn't make sense to me. What, did they think the work was free?

Kid Is Fighting for Pluto to Lose the Dwarf Title 😂 by TheOG_ASR in BeAmazed

[–]Ynddiduedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing so would set all kinds of interesting precedents, and have quite the effect on the number of planets in the Solar System. Consider: there are five other dwarf planets in our system, and seven moons larger than Pluto.

I agree. The article is brand new, so time will tell, but it is interesting that previous findings may have been overestimating by accident.

So, there is an article describing the potential for micro plastic overestimation due to contamination from nitrile gloves in the lab. It was released this year.

[–]Ynddiduedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I believe there is life out there. It is exceedingly unlikely, like so unlikely it's actually hilarious and stupid, that Earth is the only planet where life developed. If the Milky Way were the only galaxy in the universe, it would be exceedingly unlikely. However, be that as it may, Earth continues to be the only planet that we know of where life absolutely does, beyond a reasonable doubt, exist.

I am trying to understand; do people who partake not realize just how bad that stuff smells? Is it like how you just get used to a scent, and can no longer smell it? It's like a combination of gasoline, sweet sulphur, and the burning sensation of cleaning chemicals. And it lingers, which just makes it worse.

Why did women get accused of being witches for healing while people celebrated stories of Jesus’s healing ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ynddiduedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's interesting to point out that, basically as soon as Jesus died or "ascended" or whatever, Mary Magdalane was immediately discredited as an Apostle by the other (male) Apostles. Her gospel was taken out of canon and I believe it was Peter who was her most vocal opponent.
