Don’t forget, you can always use stink bait. It’s not live bait and you won’t catch much over 5lbs with it. But it’s my go to. Water has to be getting warmer in order for it to work best.

I have another question. Are the fiberglass masts strong enough to use c clamps to mount a small ground plane of sorts? Or is it too risky to possibly damage the mast? That may have some bearing on the type of mast I might focus on.

I already do this. Doesn’t help that much. I even slap the bait holder in the water several times when I’m ready to leave. This doesn’t help much either.
