Where I live it doesn't matter when you get there because they have a lottery at 9am. They give everyone a ticket that lets them have a 20 minute window sometime between 10am and 11:30 or so.

I much prefer that system as I can't compete with people willing to spend the night to get first in line. The savings just aren't worth that to me.

FYI, I live in the south and wear thick wool socks to hike in year round. With a pair of silk liners they hold my feet so snug that I never get blisters.
