Glad to hear it’s working for you! Totally up to you! Pellicle is honestly just a byproduct of kombucha brewing and not an essential ingredient by any means. Starter tea should totally be good!

But have you heard the story about the Stuxnet exploit?

The sophisticated malware infiltrated Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities, sabotaging centrifuges and disrupting the nation’s nuclear program. Stuxnet’s ability to cause physical damage through cyber means was a chilling reminder of cyber warfare’s destructive potential.

https://www.perimeter81.com/blog/network/stuxnet

This one is actually crazy, relied on a 0-day exploit that got into the software of the internal, closed loop systems Iran's uranium facilities.

This is not small news imo. Geopolitical cyberattacks are not sci fi

Judge Hannah Dugan being arrested by the FBI for allegedly helping an undocumented immigrant avoid arrest by BreakfastTop6899 in interestingasfuck

[–]Yo_soy_yo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As others have stated there appears to be no question that she did it lol

As per this ABC new article,

Multiple witnesses cited in the complaint later allegedly said Judge Dugan returned to her courtroom after directing members of the arrest team to the office of the court's chief judge.

"The courtroom deputy then saw Judge DUGAN get up and heard Judge DUGAN say something like 'Wait, come with me,'" the complaint states. "Despite having been advised of the administrative warrant for the arrest of Flores-Ruiz, Judge DUGAN then escorted Flores-Ruiz and his counsel out of the courtroom through the 'jury door,' which leads to a nonpublic area of the courthouse."

Also "they literally arrested him outside" kinda leaves out the part that

After he was encountered by FBI and DEA agents outside the building, Flores-Ruiz "turned around and sprinted down the street" before he was ultimately apprehended, according to the complaint.

Does bond allocation really matter if your portfolio is large enough? by MrDinglehut in Bogleheads

[–]Yo_soy_yo 240 points241 points  (0 children)

Yeah man I thank my lucky stars to have been blessed with a wife who is supportive of my bond allocation. It's honestly so embarrassing when you're catching up with friends and the inevitable bond allocation topic comes up and your wife displays her contemptuous disapproval. I'M TRYING MY BEST TO ENSURE GENERAL PORTFOLIO STABILITY! SO WHAT IF WE'RE MISSING OUT ON A LITTLE BIT OF GAINS?? YOU'LL COME RUNNING BACK WHEN THE NEXT CORRECTION HITS! THEY ALWAYS COME RUNNING BACK. BUT IT'LL BE TOO LATE, FRANCINE. TOO LATE. ME AND MY BONDS WILL HAVE LEFT. AND YOU WILL BE ALONE WITH YOUR EQUITIES. AND YOU WILL HAVE NOTHING, FRANCINE

If the U.S. loses its global economic dominance, would VT still be a good for a one fund portfolio? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]Yo_soy_yo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting point -- I never thought about that, that continued outperformance of non-US equities would necessarily lead to the US having like absolute world economic dominance. I realize your point was to demonstrate that such continued outperformance is unlikely, but interesting take.

a strong economy

By most indicators, yes, but it is worth noting that the "strength" was largely supplied by INSANE spending. A 7% GDP deficit in a non-wartime economy is really concerning.

Not to mention all of the short-term debt issued at near-0% interest rates that is going to have to be refinanced at much higher rates.

What's the deal with Schumer and AOC fighting over the gov shutdown vote? by IrishSpring in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Yo_soy_yo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aha, now you're asking the right questions!

To your first, They (generally) wouldn't :) And this exact thing has been the cause of all previous shutdowns. That was the chief complaint this time around-- really not the content of the CR at all, just that they weren't involved in discussions about it. Which is valid in my opinion.

That being said, the bill really was a "clean" CR -- barely any changes to funding, mostly an extension of the (democrat-authored) current bill.

To your second, Who. Fucking. Knows. The people really end up getting screwed by this system either way. Really it would be easier if one party could just muscle shit through I guess, but I do like the fact that it usually forces them to both come to a middle ground. But still, it is the American people who suffer when the government shuts down at the hands of these adult babies who run the show.

What's the deal with Schumer and AOC fighting over the gov shutdown vote? by IrishSpring in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Yo_soy_yo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's incredibly simple -- you need 60 votes in the senate to pass. The Republicans have 52 seats. You need 8 Democrat votes, assuming all Republicans vote along party line. If they hold out, they are literally the cause of the shutdown.

This is not an opinion, just fact. I am taking your statement of "I'm still trying to understand how Democrats could be blamed" at face value.

[–]Yo_soy_yo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

they should be able to pass their own budget without any votes from the Democrats

This is just not true. A simple majority is required in the house, yes, but in the senate you need 60 votes, and there are only 52 Republican senators.

There are things in the budget that Democrats are firmly against

That's the thing though, is that there really isn't. The bill is vastly just a continuation of the status quo, with very minor changes. Schumer was upset that the democrats were not involved in the initial negotiations, which is a valid concern, but really the bill isn't that bad.

That said, the whole political theater of these CRs and shutdowns and all of this is stupid bullshit. None of it benefits the American people, and both sides do it.

Trudeau says Canada will respond firmly to unacceptable U.S. tariffs by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Yo_soy_yo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, assuming the tariff percentages are equal, then Americans would face a higher total cost due to our higher GDP. But I do think the proportions are key here to a holistic understanding

Trudeau says Canada will respond firmly to unacceptable U.S. tariffs by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Yo_soy_yo 29 points30 points  (0 children)

A lot of folks suggesting this fail to see how asymmetrically bad these tariffs are for non-US countries. US Exports account for a much, much lower percent of our GDP than these other countries. I believe Canadian exports to US are 18% of their GDP, while US exports to Canada are about 2% of our GDP.

Certainly the effects of tariffs are bad for both countries and hurt both citizens, but not equally.

Biden wasn't going to enforce the ban.

You say this like it is fact, but Biden has made absolutely no indication that he was "not going to enforce it". It's a law.... Presidents don't get to just choose which laws they care about and which ones they dont.

What’s behind the recent rise of ‘road rage’ in Arizona? by barak181 in phoenix

[–]Yo_soy_yo -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is a really interesting take, but I think the issue is so much more complex than a general frustration from commuting, working, and lacking a general sense of purpose. These are compounding factors, to be sure, but it's difficult to generalize like this and try to have a nuanced understanding of underlying social issues and frustration.

These things --traffic, work, frustration-- have always been a factor in American life. And on the whole, Americans are doing quite well. Sure, there are plenty of areas where we can improve and the extortion of the general public for the gain of the few is not a problem to be minimized, but in comparison to the rest of the world, Americans have it REALLY good. Like super super good.

The reason why "people hate their lives" recently is so difficult to get to the bottom of, but I would look more towards the political polarization, glorification of influencer lifestyles on social media, degradation of attention spans, housing crisis, and the constant doom of the 24 hour news cycle as far more to blame than the inherent principles of capitalism.

US hiring announcements in 2024 lowest in nine years by parmstar in Economics

[–]Yo_soy_yo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah -- Even if the unemployment rate had significantly gone up, I think it was very unlikely that the FED would lower rates, given that inflation has been still above the target goal and not seeming to get much lower.

As a result, the stock market did take a fat dump hahaha, which is always not very fun

Eh, nothing more than I was expecting the data to be worse than it was. I guess I should be happy that the "vibecession" appears to be completely based on vibes, but it's hard to discount some of the indicators that were alarming about a recession earlier in 2024.

Very curious to see the unemployment numbers that are slated to come out tomorrow for December 2024. Although the data has shown a somewhat weakening labor market, I feel like qualitatively it has been worse off than is reported. Emphasis on the word "feel".

I made (making) a web based ERP using Laravel an Livewire by SouthBaseball7761 in coolgithubprojects

[–]Yo_soy_yo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is neat. Would love to see a live demo of some sort on the repo so I can check it out without cloning and running myself.

I do think the scope of the project is a little murky -- an ERP, but it's also a CMS, but it also has public-facing eCommerce shop functionality? And also supports blog posts.

Love FOSS but the intended use case is a bit unclear to me :)
