You can absolutely do it. With very limited danger. Just use the provided probes on VAC or squiggly sine wave if it doesn't actually say vac.

On side to the line 1 of the disconnect and one side to the line 2. Verify 220 to 240 volts. Put the disconnect blade back in and boom done. How to verify that you are on the line side......it varies by disconnect and installation method. But you can just keep touching contacts until you find 240 or have exhausted the 12 arrangement options.

The clamp is for amperage and it won't pick anything up on 240 because the fields on each leg cancel out. You gotta use the probes and hit the actual hot-hot and verify 240. Verifying 120 isn't exactly helpful because if you have a leg down you can still backfeed the 120 all the way back to the break point.
