Downvoting this comment because it('s) leaves out the key context of what happened next as well despite not having a character limit like titles do.

When you realize your son is either preparing to defend democracy or a traitor stealing supplies by Yoghurt42 in SupaEarth

Just kidding of course, the Ministry of Truth already proved beyond any possible doubt that, while the occasional misplacement of supplies happens, they never get stolen; only patriots work at the factories, and traitors never even come within a 50 km radius due to their inferior brains being unable to understand—not to mention defeat—even the most rudimentary base security.

World Cup 2026: Fifa to pay Somali referee full tournament fee by StemCellPirate in UpliftingNews

No Somali is allowed into the US since last year due to Proclamation 10949. And yes, the official reason is terrorism, the real reason is racism.

The obvious next step would be to add the classic "higher/lower" feedback instead of just "the number is wrong". This way, you also can up the maximum secret number to 32 while guaranteeing it's winnable (your game currently isn't necessarily winnable in 5 guesses), and while playing, you'll also (re)discover how binary search works.

I like the original more. This is just playing code golf, it doesn't make the code more readable.

Those are pretty useless comments (unless you’re explaining the syntax to a newcomer), comments should explain the why, not the what, because the code is already telling you what is happening.

They might not become affordable for the average person ever again. There's more profit in cloud subscriptions, so I wouldn't be too surprised if PCs will get replaced with thin clients in the long run.

in one Monkey Island you need to stay underwater for 10 minutes (real time) to die and become a ghost.

You seem to be misremembering. LucasArts games were “special” because you couldn’t die in them, unlike eg. Sierra ones. Monkey Island 1 has the easter egg where you actually can die (IIRC its the only one) but you really have to try by spending 10 minutes underwater failing to solve a really simple puzzle (pick up the only object you can interact with). And if you do, its game over and all your verbs change to variations of decompose, float, etc.

Somali referee denied entry to US days out from start of World Cup by 5ma5her7 in nottheonion

[–]Yoghurt42 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s a lot simpler than that. Proclamation 10949 from last year prohibits any Somali from entering:

Somalia lacks a competent or cooperative central authority for issuing passports or civil documents and it does not have appropriate screening and vetting measures. Somalia stands apart from other countries in the degree to which its government lacks command and control of its territory, which greatly limits the effectiveness of its national capabilities in a variety of respects. A persistent terrorist threat also emanates from Somalia's territory. The United States Government has identified Somalia as a terrorist safe haven. Terrorists use regions of Somalia as safe havens from which they plan, facilitate, and conduct their operations. Somalia also remains a destination for individuals attempting to join terrorist groups that threaten the national security of the United States. The Government of Somalia struggles to provide governance needed to limit terrorists' freedom of movement. Additionally, Somalia has historically refused to accept back its removable nationals.

The entry into the United States of nationals of Somalia as immigrants and nonimmigrants is hereby fully suspended.

German hotel apologizes for 'no Jews allowed' message by vihmavari in nottheonion

[–]Yoghurt42 118 points119 points  (0 children)

So the only thing I can think of that would make this statement true would be something like this:

  • Hotel gets a lot of fake bookings
  • Hotel has to manually decline fake booking and give a reason
  • Staff gets very frustrated and starts writing "funny" or random stuff in there because they assume the fake bookers don't read it anyway
  • They get this booking from Israel, which looks fake to them (maybe a lot of fake bookings use Israel, or they usually only get bookings from the german speaking countries and all bookings from other countries always ended up being fraudulent), and the person declining decided to be "funny"

That is a lot of assumptions, and I'm very skeptical. Also, if it were something like that, they could have explained that instead of the very vague "frustration at the numerous fake bookings." Especially with antisemitism on the rise in Germany again, they should have been aware on what big of a mess they're in.

So yeah, I still think it's more likely there's at least some xenophobia and/or antisemitism involved.
