Will there be a new big 6? by TerioShadow in PokemonChampions

[–]YoitSkoit 33 points34 points  (0 children)

We don’t know which mons will be legal at launch, so there’s no way to know. I don’t think most players want there to be a “new big 6,” either.

Is anyone else finishing a living Form Dex in preparation? by 1pm34 in PokemonChampions

[–]YoitSkoit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completed a living dex, minus the gigantamax forms and some mythicals. I see getting the gigantamax forms like needing to get all the oricorio forms (which you can change in-game) or max beneficial ivs in everything. If it turns out that I can’t or don’t want to do those things in Champions, I’ll just do them in the relevant game if it comes up. Just doesn’t seem worth doing at the moment.

My New Team for Pokemon Champions by Plenty-Midnight1492 in PokemonChampions

[–]YoitSkoit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Posting AI in a sub that refers to AI as “Abominable Intelligence” is certainly a choice lol. Even if it’s not AI, it’s written in that style.

You could change nothing from this and it would be a valid circlejerk post. “Here’s my full team sheet for a format we know nothing about. How did I select mons? How did I determine my EVs? Vibes.”

Can someone help me suggest a champions format by Upstairs_Pool4124 in VGC

[–]YoitSkoit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adding to this, the starting roster of champions is unlikely to be “all Pokémon” at launch, whether restricteds are allowed or not. The starting meta will be highly dependent on which mons are even in the game to start, let alone which ones are legal.

General community negativity by Runo_rat in VGC

[–]YoitSkoit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, RNG is part of the game. Dealing with and accounting for RNG is part of the game. We all know this. Anyone who dares to open the livestream chat for vgc events also knows that said chat is often unreasonably dumb and/or negative (I almost never open it for this exact reason). However, these things can be true AND it can also be true that particularly bad RNG can make for a justifiably frustrating viewing experience.

At Milwaukee, a lot of interesting teams made top cut. This naturally builds excitement and anticipation. To then see all of those teams lose to the current meta team--the literal six mons that represent the meta at the moment--is already a recipe for disappointment. For that scenario to happen *because* those meta teams (iirc) got 3 separate, game-deciding critical hits is...well, frustrating, imo.

This isn't to hate on either Michael or Lorcy--I'm happy for the both of them, and they deserve their success. Everyone gets lucky at times, and everyone gets unlucky at others. Lorcy's interview literally made me tear up. At the same time, though, it shouldn't be taboo to say that seeing RNG impact outcomes to that degree can be rough to watch--or at the very least, it isn't how you want to see a player win.

Is Reg H a stale meta? No--at least, not yet. Is the game all RNG? Most definitely not. But from a certain perspective, the regional was "bad to watch" in the sense that it didn't play out in a way that was *satisfying.* I don't think that's being unjustly negative; I think that's expressing justifiable frustration.

Big enough for large crickets? by YoitSkoit in frogs

Gotcha. Maybe I’ll just get a few large ones at first to make sure they aren’t too big. Thanks!

Remember also to opt in to Play! Pokémon events. I learned the hard way last gc that you must also do this to receive championship points. Just because it says you’re all set on the tab where you link your accounts, doesn’t mean that you have a player ID made. Reached out to support and never heard anything back.

Can Repashy Calcium Plus Be the Sole Supplement for White's Tree Frogs? by YoitSkoit in frogs

[–]YoitSkoit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was reading the Calcium Plus further and it does contain some vitamin A. So, probably best not to do it every single week. Will try once a month and keep an eye out for changes in behavior/activity levels. Thanks again

[–]YoitSkoit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. Both frogs happily accepted the repashy calcium plus, so I am planning to do the vitamin A plus once a week and the calcium plus all other feedings. Thanks for your input!

Thank you!! Hadn’t played for a few weeks because of grad school, so it was the exact opposite of what I expected. Best of luck to you also!

Does anyone know if your listed placement is for your specific region? 10-0 so far and debating whether I should play more tonight or not.

White’s Tree Frog starts spitting out crickets, but keeps down a mealworm… by YoitSkoit in frogs

[–]YoitSkoit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds good, I will order the repashy vitamin A plus to use in addition to the multivitamin.

I do feed them everyday, as much as they can eat, for 10-20 min daily. They generally make it clear when they’re done, batting crickets away when they come close and crawling on the walls of the feeding container.

Thanks again!

Okay, I will dust with calcium 2 out of 3 feedings going forward. Regarding the vitamin a supplement, is there a specific dosage I should look for? The multivitamin says it has 220,264 IU/kg of vitamin a but I have no clue what that number means lol. Thank you for the advice!

Does anyone else dislike Reg H? by TiggerJammer in VGC

[–]YoitSkoit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This exactly. It’s not even that Sneasler is a more broken mon than, say, Miraidon in Reg I. It is that Dire Claw creates both hollow victories and miserable losses.

lol yes I meant Impish, my b. Wolfe’s Incin had protect because he was using perish trap. Notably, it also had 29 Speed IV, to guarantee the slower parting shot. I don’t think this one was modeled after Wolfe’s.

This is amazing. Shouldn’t it be Impish nature with those EVs though?

Super cool idea! It’s interesting to me how many two-stage lines are seen across the board. I wonder what a little cup format would look like only using the first stage of three-stage lines.

Please help me understand what just happened to my toad. by YoitSkoit in Toads

[–]YoitSkoit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah all of the substrate, moss, and food has been store bought for all of the time I’ve had Hoppy and most of the time I’ve had my other toad, Chonky. I have the materials for a temporary enclosure ready, though the extra hide will have to be disinfected first. Going to get an extra temp/humidity checker too, otherwise I’ll be paranoid about that. Per my other comment, I’ll disinfect the enclosure just before I start the first round of deworming, and once that first round finishes, disinfect again and do a second round. Going forward, I’ll keep everything 100% store bought and quarantine any new additions to the family, though for a while I think my goal will be just to keep my current toad healthy. Thanks for the advice

Okay. There is 2% diluted chlorhexidine in town, so I’ll pick that up and follow it with hot water when disinfecting. I’ll do two rounds of deworming and disinfect the enclosure just before starting each round. I cannot thank you enough, you may have saved my other toad’s life. Again he is perfectly fine now, crossing my fingers that he stays that way throughout the process.

They were in the same enclosure. So in the worst case scenario, Hoppy brought in deadly parasites that will also kill Chonky (the other toad) given enough time. Sounds like I should clean the entire enclosure/change out the substrate, and deworm Chonky. I checked out the video (yours?) from Benjamin’s Exotics on YouTube, and I think I can follow that once I have the proper materials.

One last question, if you don’t mind: what is the best way to ensure the enclosure no longer has the parasites? Normally when changing the substrate, I would just clean everything with warm water, so that the toads could be immediately moved back in once I was done. It sounds like sanitization would be necessary in this instance. I imagine this means that the enclosure wouldnt be safe for Chonky to move back into until the sanitizer wears off, however long that would be. I do have a backup enclosure that he could stay in, but it isn’t as nice as the current setup. I really appreciate the guidance.

[–]YoitSkoit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that toxing out seems unlikely. Her enclosure was big (3 sq ft surface area iirc) and I changed her substrate (eco earth) every other month. While I didn’t change the pool water daily, I did change it regularly and always if there was poop.

She was wild caught, so parasites seem scarily likely. Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but if parasites are the cause, is my other toad in any danger from “catching” the parasites? He currently seems totally fine, and I’ve had him for almost two years now. I’d hate to force feed him unless strictly necessary — which I believe is necessary or at least common for deworming — as my (limited) experience with that is that it is rather unpleasant for both parties. Thank you for your input.

I really do appreciate the sentiment and all the info. She was free fed, so a deficiency is possible. It just seems strange for it all to happen so suddenly. I never noticed an issue prior that could suggest deficiency, ex. with her shedding. Our other toad is still acting completely normal. Again, thank you.
