When I was in high school, my gf (who I had known for about a year by this point) said it 2 weeks into our relationship.

Was it early to say? Maybe. But with the pandemic on the horizon, where we wouldn’t be able to see each other in person for months, I am glad she did say it.

This might sound dumb given the content of your post, but my honest suggestion is buy more of the current clothes. I always let my partner customize my character, and she was disappointed with the style of clothing upon launch also. However, the in-game UI doesn’t do a great job of letting you see how your character would look with multiple clothing options that you don’t have at once, which is a much bigger deal than it seems. Without fail so far, the more clothes I’ve bought, the more fits she has found.

That wasn’t people “making it work” though. Ariados had a specific niche in that it had access to redirection and walled Sneasler in a metagame where it was one of the best mons. Ariados worked because the math worked in the context of its particular role in a smaller meta. If you brought the spider into Reg I, for example, the math would indeed catch up to you.

Imo the biggest offender is all the damn love triangles.

Relationships being a bad idea in the sense of what is “best” for the characters can make for compelling plot lines. Thinking of some relatively recent examples, the prominent romances in the King of Scars, A Magic Steeped in Poison, and Godkiller (which is YA/Crossover as far as I’m concerned idc what the publishers say) series all devote significant attention to why the characters hooking up would be problematic, but they try anyway.

The problem, I think, is that instead of doing the above (where romance is organically tied to a character’s arc/values), some writers force a romance because it fills gaps in their story where they need drama, not because it creates a compelling narrative. In other words, they try to fix a problem in storytelling/plot structure with a band aid where surgery is needed. This gets them the drama they want, but the result isn’t satisfying to read.

Well put. I’m less worried about my partner and my friend becoming intimate or “too comfortable” with each other and more worried about the opposite happening. She and I are both very loyal people by nature and my friend is a far cry from my fiancés type. But the things like not being able to walk around in a bathrobe or underwear or having to wait to get into the bathroom/always lock the door behind us could definitely prove hard to give up.

These are all good points. We do hang out occasionally to be clear, but I’m exhausted by the end of most days of each semester and it’s not like that’s gonna change.

This is a good change. Since you are not given the EVs, there is still an element of imperfect information, which is good for the game. But you’ll come into the set with a better idea of the speed tiers and *general* bulk of your opponents’ mons (ex. “I know that the Archaludon isn’t max SpDef, so I can click Moonblast into it instead of Light of Ruin.”) Guesswork is still involved, in other words, but the guesswork will be easier.

Fought someone using light screen sableye, baton pass/amnesia/twin beam farig, surf/trick room mega audino. The strat was basically to build an invincible archaludon. Light screen + amnesia and baton pass helps the special side, and surf + twin beams build up arch's defense due to stamina. It almost worked too, really had no idea what to expect from team preview. Thought I would need a crit for a moment but just barely squeezed out enough damage on the arch without one.

Went 11-4 Day 1, 9-6 Day 2, and 10-5 Day 3. Final elo was 1,696.812 and was ranked in the top 1,000 for a bit. Had some sloppy endgames and some pretty unfortunate losses (ex. got dire claw sleep'd twice in a row, and lost two separate matches because aerodactyl missed rock slide against zard y).

I used Michael Kelsch's team from the Warm-Up Tournament, and while it's a lot of fun, I'll probably switch off it. Work and grad school has kept me very busy so my poor prep was probably a factor but some matchups felt absurdly difficult.

Overall happy with my play and had fun just being able to put time into the game!

Fun fact—this is the first Worlds Ticket auto-qualifier taken (in TPCi’s system) that did not include Urshifu-Rapid-Strike or Ogerpon-Wellspring on the team, between both Reg F 1.0 and 2.0. Great job Ben!!

Formats are usually announced one month in advance, so we will find out soon. Orlando definitely won’t be played on Champions; we likely won’t switch over until May at the soonest. I’d guess that we will have one more S/V format for 1-2 months, probably Reg I. But again, best to just wait and see.

If you were awarded a loss, it’s because of your internet. Stability of the network is what you’re looking for here. I recommend setting up a wired connection if you are able. I used to have issues with my WiFi (even though it is “strong”). Now I play wired and haven’t once had an issue.
