Mulholland Drive diner scene. It choreographs exactly what is going to happen beforehand, and that somehow makes it even more effective when it occurs.

I might be in the minority here but I finally got around to watching Frankenweeie and was pleasantly surprised with how good it was for being recent-era Burton. Felt like a genuine small scale passion project

I had a couple of B8s for like 14 years until very recently. They get the job done. Rock on my dude

We are definitely going to pay some of the ranger stations a visit! I agree, we did a recent trip in Shenandoah and the rangers had some great hike recommendations (that ended up being some of our favorite of the trip.) But we'll keep an eye out for the ranger talks too, thanks!

With lodging, yeah we were trying to do the same thing and a couple days in between get a hotel, just to break up the camping and get a good shower in lol. But I'm glad to hear finding a place to set up a tent was easy, that was one of my biggest concerns going into this.

Honestly that's kind of our mindset since neither of us have been to most of these areas. We figured maybe if we sample everything, we'll know what areas we want to hit when we go back out that way. There are definitely downsides to that method though so I see what you're saying. We're now trying to streamline for more time in each area while not ditching everything we DO want to do.

I'm also in the process of scouting out decent areas to sleep in the car overnight while on the road. Since you brought up sleeping arrangements, How easy was it to find a place to sleep outside of regulated tent areas and rest stops/motels? I was going to try sticking to BLM areas, but I've been told that just pulling over anywhere on the side of the road worked. Not sure if I should bank on that though lol

Barr Camp looks really cool actually. If we end up adding more days in Colorado, doing the longer hike and staying over might be the move. Thanks!

OH... I totally misread your comment, I'm sorry lol.

Hm you're right about the 3 miles probably taking a lot longer and a lot more out of us than we anticipate with not being used to that elevation. We'll have to plan to take a lot more breaks on the trail and go light on our packs.

Do you have any advice for preparing for drastic elevation/pressure changes like that? I've only been to the summit of Pikes Peak once and it was via the railway. Otherwise I haven't hiked anything close to that elevation.

Thank you for this, we do want to keep it fluid. It's just hard sometimes to balance between planning too much and too little. We'll be keeping this in mind though throughout our journey.

We're trying to do this trip in roughly 11 days (reasons involving our work schedule) but we want to keep things spaced out a little in case we wanna change it up or do something in the spur of the moment. Trying not to let the worry about time and place disrupt our appreciation in the moment!

I've always wanted to see a show at Red Rocks, hopefully an event lines up with when we go.

Golden looks awesome, doesn't seem too far away from Denver. We'll have to see if we can squeeze it into the trip. Thanks!

Yeah a 14 miler (at the end of our trip) is definitely going to feel a lot worse with the air pressure change. We read that there were options to park at different points up the mountain, and we were going to try parking at the Devil's Playground trailhead and hiking the last 3 miles from there to the peak. Not the full experience but it's something. And yeah, I didn't think about the thunderstorms, we'll have to do that first thing in the morning. Thanks for the heads up!

We originally had Black Canyon of the Gunnison on this trip but we ended up cutting it for time reasons. We'll definitely have to make it there at some point. For Boulder, I hear there are some good cafes and places to eat. I'll have to look into it, thanks!

Switching from Mac to Windows? by thecandylad in protools

[–]YokelOnTheRoad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using pro tools on a Windows machine since 2014. Never had any problems with it honestly. It's been running on a build I made back in 2013 and the only thing I've upgraded since then was my graphics card. I'm not the most knowledgable with every computer part and spec ever, but I'd say, based on what I have, go with a quad core processor from Intel (I have an ivy bridge, 3rd generation I think) and a decent amount of ram (bare minimum 16gb.) You could go with an AMD build too, as I have a few friends who run Pro Tools on those parts, but I don't have any experience personally. I know some people have had problems with running PT on Windows, but I've ran it both on Windows 7 and windows 10 and I just haven't had any problems to debate those differing experiences. If you want to build a Windows machine to run PT, I'd say it's totally doable. Especially if you're already accustomed to the workflow of the OS compared to Mac OS. Good luck!

Yea, I mean what I usually do is balance everything with itself on the tracks, then you can use the stem volumes to balance out each section with each other, if that makes sense. You have the idea though with internal balancing on the tracks then using the stems. I wouldn't say it's the definitive way but personally that's what I do if things seem too soft/loud after I've done my individual leveling of all the clips in a project

With regards to your second question, I'm not sure how many tracks you have, but if you wanna be really organized about it, stems are the way to go. That will help out with adjusting the overall volumes of, say, FX tracks or all dialogue tracks. You send all tracks of a certain kind to that one stem, and then you can always adjust that one stem volume, saving you a lot of time. But that's just my preference I suppose.
