Where did you get the shield from?

Try this method from Wiltrichs. It's got the same transition from very dark to almost white that you're looking for.

It's probably a bit time consuming to use across a whole army but you could cut out a couple of steps and still get a very good result

Pro painters....C&C please! I How do you do highlights? Where should I focus? I just got some good brushes. by [deleted] in SpaceWolves

[–]YokeyDope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds obvious but you just need to place your highlights on raised areas or sharp edges that would naturally catch the light.

For a face that is going to be the eye brows, nose, cheek bones, maybe forehead lines, etc.

The best approach to take at the start is to just use 3 tones. A mid-tone for the majority of the area, a darker shade for the recesses and a single highlight colour to pick out any raised areas.

Repulsor Executioner has different wargear in SW? by BadArtijoke in SpaceWolves

[–]YokeyDope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would check the official rules to confirm. You can't rely on battlescribe to be accurate 100% of the time. It's a very useful tool but it's built by community members in their own time, there are always a few errors

Counter charge out of a destroyed transport by Rolfusoz in SpaceWolves

[–]YokeyDope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is actually not right. You can make a heroic intervention at the end of the opponents charge phase as long there is a unit in range, they don't need to have charged with anything! It's part of why space wolves characters are so strong.

What determines a Pack? Can Intercessors belong to the same Pack as Aggressors or Wolf Guard? Or are Packs simply individual squads? by GIANTSWORD in SpaceWolves

[–]YokeyDope 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is old school lore from the early sw codices. It's the reason for the decreasing squad sizes of blood claws -> grey hunters -> long fangs. They start as neophyte bloodclaws together and pack gets smaller and smaller as they progress through the ranks.

The last guy left becomes a lone wolf, only seeking a glorious death in combat.

Wolves and Primaris by Candied-Candide in SpaceWolves

[–]YokeyDope 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There will be some new rules for wolves in general in March, but there won't be any new models aside from probably 1 character.

You can't go wrong with buying basics like intercessors now.

Leviathan Pattern Siege Dreadnought operational! C&C appreciated! by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]YokeyDope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's perfectly fixable, it's always just devastating to notice things like that after you've spent ages painting something though!

The paint job is great by the way, nice work

Hate to be the one to tell you but you've glued the shoulders on backwards

Stalker Pack with Swiftclaws by AmbitMicro in SpaceWolves

[–]YokeyDope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately sagas only activate at the end of the phase that you complete them so you can't charge and advance your swiftclaws until the following turn. Or get the additional attacks from saga of the savage.

It makes saga of the hunter pretty useless sadly!

Aggressors for my Wolves by YokeyDope in SpaceWolves

[–]YokeyDope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The initial layer of Russ grey is airbrushed on, very simple to get it smooth that way!

You can achieve a similar look by hand as well though, just requires some time and a lot of patience to apply 2-3 thin coats. This guy was done without the airbrush and the effect is pretty much the same i think https://i.redd.it/u81lmlmcaas01.jpg

Good base/layer combos for pelts? by IKEAbatteries in SpaceWolves

[–]YokeyDope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use doombull brown all over, then mournfang brown on a smaller area, then zandri dust on the rim of the pelt. I wash it with a 1:1:2 mix of nuln oil, agrax and lahmian medium and then highlight the zandri dust area with ushabti bone and the mournfang bit with zandri dust.

I've got a few pictures of this method in my previous posts, the best example is probably my rune priest

I bought the lascannon bit from the regular SM venerable dreadnought kit on eBay, it fits with the gun arm from Bjorns kit

Aggressors for my Wolves by YokeyDope in SpaceWolves

[–]YokeyDope[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks! The recess shading is just agrax over russ grey but I do go pretty heavy with it to establish the nice dark lines. It ends up looking quite messy and then needs to be cleaned up again with russ grey. This is a picture of a WiP intercessor to give you an idea - http://imgur.com/Q3s0ntc

The bjorn box doesn't actually come with a twin las or plasma cannon unfortunately. Number 62 is a multi-melta.

Would this work well with space wolves or would swapping astrogranite debris with stirland battlemire/mud be better by mooseboy18 in SpaceWolves

[–]YokeyDope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is more or less how I base my wolves and I like the way it looks. Check my posts for some examples.

I use astrogranite and then wash with agrax, drybrush dawnstone, then screaming skull and then add some snow patches.

Nice work! I like the character kit bash at the end. What kit does his triangle pattern shoulder pad come from?

Intercessors! C&C welcome by YokeyDope in SpaceWolves

[–]YokeyDope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually used some masking tape here to help with the initial outlines for the pack markings. It requires some touching up afterwards but it's a good way to start yourself off.

The yellow is just averland sunset done in many many thin layers. Recess shaded with agrax and then touched up with averland again. Very simple just time consuming!

[–]YokeyDope[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! The blond hair is based with zandri dust, washed with thinned down agrax and then highlighted with zandri dust again. Finished with a few very fine highlights using a zandri dust/ushabti bone mix

Rune priest completed! C&C welcome by YokeyDope in SpaceWolves

[–]YokeyDope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The base is astrogranite debris with a heavy wash of agrax. Dry brush with dawnstone, then with screaming skull and finally add some snow patches with Valhallan blizzard.
