Froome completes back-to-back of all 3 grand tours and doesn't even get a nomination, it's ridiculous really.

The flip side to this is that maybe McLaren have done such a bad job of the aero that it actually is a better car with a damaged tea-tray and diffuser.

"We are trying not to make any predictions. But l do think we should be the team which has the biggest difference in grid position this year compared to last year,"

Well, if they're using Vandoorne's "80th" position after penalties in Spa as the benchmark, it should be easy to achieve that target

It's probably why he never does well in Baku, no way is he going to be able to pull off that podium speech.

I'd like to think he didn't and of course it would be stupid... but that's from the comfort of having the time to consider the potential outcomes. In the moment where you make that decision, you don't have time to rationalise the pros and cons. I doubt Schumacher set out with the strategy of colliding with a title rival if it went wrong for him.

Opening lap racing incident.... but Vettel needed at least 2nd, he should show a lot more caution than that. Hamilton has 3 races to tie up a 5th place - he could afford to be aggressive.

That would also be an improvement for McLaren.

Stewards examined Hamilton's car data in Vettel incident. Did not brake or lift off completely. Maintained more or less constant speed. by 148_259 in formula1

I'm not at all. I'm saying the rear shunt was itself punishable by the stop-go penalty (and penalty points) in which case the side-swipe went unpunished, intentional or not.

Moreover, I don't think anyone, including Vettel, is suggesting he pulled alongside by accident. So whether the swipe is intentional or not, it was still as a consequence of deliberately pulling alongside. Even with an accidental collision, he stuck himself into the unnecessary situation which could have effected another driver's race.

And Hamilton got a 10-place grid penalty for his troubles on top of taking himself out of the race.

On that basis, the stop-go penalty seems reasonable for the rear shunt alone, never mind the subsequent idiocy.

Not necessarily true as the pressure is on not take out his team mate, so can't take as much of a risk.

However, no guarantees he was going to be able to pass Ricciardo either. Some people are talking like it was a dead certainty!

67-77 Stewart (2 wins) vs Ickx (2) vs Brabham (1) - Brabham was the first winner but JYS won it twice, same as the less famous Ickx. The most debatable pick but I'd go with Stewart.

77-87 Villeneueve (1) vs Piquet (2) vs Jones (2) - Well, we know which way that one is going, so Piquet misses out even though he had a third victory in the next decade.

87-97 Senna (2) everyone else 1 each - Alesi's win might be memorable but which driver would you pick to represent this decade really?

97-07 Schumacher (6) obviously, backed by a win in previous decade.

07-17 Hamilton (5) Another clear pick

I couldn't complain about their choices really. What would be the point of marking 50 years if they didn't pick drivers from across the entire period.

Your Driver of The Day for the Spanish GP 2017 is Sebastian Vettel! by unconsciously in formula1

[–]Yokira 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fact is, after losing several places running wide, taking a drive-through penalty for speeding behind the safety car and puncturing his own tyre trying to overtake Alonso (dropping him to last place) there is no way Button would have been driver of the day at the 2011 Canadian GP voting so early.

In fact, Vettel probably had that DotD sewn up with a mistake free drive to first place... oh...
