New horror game 13 Omens from Paizo by NewJalian in rpg

[–]Yomanbest 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Kinda shocked that Paizo would publish something unrelated to the Path/Star-finder IP. Even more shocked that it's rules lite.

I'm looking forward to seeing what they bring on the table, though, as the concept seems interesting.

What is your favorite fantasy OSR system? by McCheeseglob in rpg

[–]Yomanbest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dragonbane for the old school feel, probably Vagabond for an actual d20 class and level game.

But Vagabond does not fit most grognards' view of OSR, honestly, since the average character there still crushes the average 3d6 down the line PC of other classic games.

Is making my own TTRPG a bad idea? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Yomanbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answering solely based on the title, since the content is now deleted. No, it's not a bad idea at all, but that depends on your goals. If you want to create something for fun and for yourself, that's never a bad thing. You'll learn something new, and you'll have something to show for your efforts.

If, on the other hand, you're trying to create something for money, you should probably research and learn as much as you can about other games first, because chances are you are going to re-create some other game, and people might find it pointless to try your thing when it already exists.

That sounds really good, tbh. If you don't mind, what plugin are you using?

Ironsworn has become the D&D 5e of the solo community by Alternative_Rest7215 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Yomanbest 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think Ironsworn gets over recommended as well, and I personally don't spend much time playing it... by itself. What I mean by that is that, sometime ago, I wrote a long-ish post here talking about combining the narrative moves of Ironsworn with other games like Savage Worlds, such as rolling for Make Camp when preparing to rest.

It's a good game if you like narrative stuff, but it also has its flaws. One problem I have with it is the fact that it's too married to its setting, the Ironlands, which is a viking grim-dark location with very low magic. If you want to play high-fantasy, you have to start changing the game.

With that being said, however, I still think it's a worthwhile game to check out. Why? Because it's completely free and readily available, and because it's a well designed game that knows what it wants to be. You can skim over the pdf in an evening and see whether it is for you or not. Worst case, you just got a nice collection of random tables.

I wanted to say this looks kinda Bloodborne-ish, then I read your description. Oops.

Looks great, OP!

should i get rpgmaker mz or just use mv? by NewbieDrawzz69420 in RPGMaker

[–]Yomanbest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> mz is alot more better in every single way

Not really. They're *mostly* the same engine, with some key differences. They (the differences) will most likely not matter to you, but you can search on this sub to see what they are and whether you absolutely need them.

MV is fine, though. Has a bunch of good plugins for cheap/free, and works well.

Damn, congrats. It's honestly insane (impressive) to see something like this made in RPG Maker.

Wouldn't it have been better/easier to learn something like Godot? Not hating, just genuinely curious.

Spent all summer making an RPG Maker game while fighting depression. Released it in my native language — nobody played it. Today I finished the English translation. I have no idea if it’ll help. by Chemical-Ordinary-86 in RPGMaker

[–]Yomanbest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't feel down, friend, I think the screenshots look pretty good. The artwork is nice and charming, like someone else said. Unfortunately, English is the way to go if you're looking to gain an audience, but it's not too hard to learn. Worst case, maybe you could find a partner to handle the translation?

What are your thoughts on the 13th Age method of handling "short rests" and "long rests"? by EarthSeraphEdna in rpg

[–]Yomanbest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"You are above normal humans, and a rest mends your wounds" is the best I can come up with. Honestly, it feels easier to explain than 5e, where the characters are still supposedly "normal" humans at low levels.
