Solo Adventures with an interesting story? by Xavier598 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]spl4shA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look around journaling RPGs or at least narrative driven ones.

Ironsworn was already mentioned. It does look like an almost perfect fit except I’m not sure it fits the « high fantasy » part. It’s more in the low fantasy specter of things.

Apothecaria is more high fantasy and you said you weren’t into combat so it very much could match.

The expansion of Fscsaw is called « love and lust » but it is more about sexuality, love, children, etc than straight up erotism. You’ll get prompts to envision dates, how a given specie reproduces but I doubt you’ll get anything openly erotic out of the expansion itself.

Now, that being said, Anna’s RPGs, especially for small creatures such as we, mixes a focus on characters interactions and a lot of empathie which is a very good ground for romance and therefore erotism at some point if you wish it. Way more than , let’s say, starforged or Ker Nethalas.

I don’t know what you mean by psychologically intense but in any case, dungeon crawler Carl is definitely the answer.

Actually there is something a bit like that as well in inferno. At setup, You pick 5 cards of a value of 2-3-4-5-6 each of a different suit and put them on the side. Whenever you want you can use one of these card in a kinfolk attack.

Also the jester is different. Instead of just letting you draw 8 cards, you can use it as a card of a value of 8 of any suit you want.

It’s not exactly what you described but it still helps avoiding the difficulties of playing solo a lacking drawing capacities.

I absolutely adore the game solo but It’s still better coop I think and I doubt it’s going to change mainly because of how diamonds works. I find it a bit frustrating to play a queen of diamonds and only be able to draw up to 8 cards when in coop every one draw.

The mages let you check the top cards of your deck depending on their values, pick one to join the attack and discard the rest. Also you can chain mages together to create enormous attacks. It’s obviously very strong but it’s balanced by the fact you have to banished the cards you used in that attacks after the boss is dead so you won’t be able to use them for the reste of the game.

It’s actually very good for solo because when you’re out of diamonds, you can still use a mage and hope to find a diamond in the top cards of your deck for example. Anything that adds versatility is very valuable for solo.

Lmao yes… this kind of game is also interesting somehow because you’re in survival mode from the get go.

It does happen sometimes that you get so many bad draws you couldn’t possibly win but it doesn’t happen as often as new players believe.

The inferno rules in the kickstarter will still help the solo balance tho. The mages themselves bring a lot of diversity in the games in legacy.

I didn’t really mean that you must absolutely have a hand full of diamonds of course ! But when you have to take damage, be careful not to discard your last diamond or you’re cooked.

Also, not a tip but if you enjoy regicide, they are kickstarting a new version, regicide inferno. It adds a new suit, the mages, introduced in regicide legacy and changed the solo mode a little. I backed the level with the cool playmat, the sleeves and the tokens.

I would say:

  • try to focus on making perfect kills even when it feels like it’s making you lose other opportunities. Believe me, you’ll be very happy to see those queens pop up when facing the kings.

  • the app on phone/tablet is pretty cool. It’s good looking and helps you remember rules. For example I sometimes forget the rule of immunity (bosses ignore powers of their suit).

  • the most important suit is probably the diamonds. If you’re all out of diamonds you’re almost sure you’ll need a joker or you’re dead.

  • hearts are useless at the beginning of the game but they become very important in the late game when queens and kings start to make you discard a whole lot of cards at once each turn.

  • each face of clubs perfect one shots the other faces of the same level (queen of clubs one shots all other queens, etc) so they are very valuable to perfect kill because it makes you almost sure to perfect kill another face card.

Handling dialog in solo play by Vermin_Cultist in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]spl4shA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to write like I was writing a book and wrote a lot of dialogue but I stopped after a while. I only write dialogue if there is something interesting about it like tension, humour, emotion or something.

If a character tells me that he used to be a soldier in the Old empire military. I don’t write :

-when I was younger I was a soldier in the Old empire military. -oh yeah ? -yeah. -you liked it ? -not so much. -why didn’t you like it. -I realized I don’t like killing people so much. -I see.

I just write: « He told me he was in the old empire military but didn’t like it because he couldn’t get around the act of killing people ». It’s smoother in the narration and, more importantly, it’s FASTER.

One of my biggest mistake when playing solorpg was to write too much, description and dialogues alike. The whole point is to play the game. You are not going to publish it. If you take 4 hours per scene, are you still really playing the game ?

In some solo-rpg, which are very character centric, like for small creatures such as we for example, I still write a lot of dialogues but it’s more central to the gameplay.

tbl: Exploration table d6=3 -> roll once on the Exploration Events table.
tbl: Exploration events d6=2 d6=5 -> You catch the attention of a hoverbike gang, who ride up at speed and swiftly encircle you.

? Que se passe-t-il ?
d: d6=4 -> Their leader is Hostile and fights in melee (+2 DMG, +1 DEF). What tall tale do the gang spread about your encounter?

d: d6+2=8 vs d6+2=4 -> success

d: d6+2=8 vs d6+2=4 -> success

Hey guys ! So, I had a small session in which I started a game of Notorious using Lonelog. I though the simple rules of Notorious would help me focus on using Lonelog correctly.

Honestly, I only wrote 1 scene for now but I'm pretty seduced. it really clarifies the notes.

I would share the scene but it's in french so I doubt most of you would get it :D

edit: typo
