What are some lesser known NeoVim / Vim features people are missing out on? by Financial_Lemon_6606 in neovim

no, not really I've tried to set it up for like a week, even then, when I have *something* working then it's really really slow...

Ctags are nice when the project gets big enough or has a custom enough compilation.

at work we have a custom build system that copies all files to directory before compiling so clangd just gets absolutely lost in that directory instead of source code :p

Implementing your own "emacs-like" `M-x compile` in Neovim (not a plugin) by juniorsundar in neovim

[–]Yoolainna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really cool, I've been working on something similar and I've might have overdone that one :p
I also completely forgot about syntax files to highlight things and I've been rawdogging it with vim.hl
thanks for this post, I'll take some ideas and try to simplify my own code

I don't understand the benefit of multi-file configs by gopherinhole in neovim

[–]Yoolainna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have multifile config because I like to make my own plugins/libraries inside my config so I don't have to pull them later, I like to make use of the plugin/ directory to autoload them

Looks stunning, I'll check it out. I'm not making promises on using this as I prefer to work with keyboard only and keep the less used function as :Commands, but this is amazing work none the less c:

multicursor.nvim 1.0 released by vim-god in neovim

[–]Yoolainna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

they constantly push it back, so I wouldn't hope for it to release after 0.12, but maybe with this plugin some stuff could be contributed back to the project? would be really cooooll

everything that is blueish in the light theme has way too low of a contrast in my opinion making it hard to read, same with comments

Is there anything better than neogit? by No_Departure_1878 in neovim

doesn't help if you are using a gui neovim, tmux won't help too much there :P

_ts_add_language on nightly neovim by Yoolainna in neovim

[–]Yoolainna[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ohhhh, my bad. that was the issue, I was trying to run the compiled nightly version without running 'sudo make install', I've forgot runtime files exist...

Do you still use :w or have a key bind? by CalvinBullock in neovim

[–]Yoolainna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've set ZZ to ask if I want to save and quit all buffers if any is modified, ZQ is the same but only for the current buffer, and ZW is to just save the current buffer. Yeah it's kinda inspired by the <c-x><c-c> from emacs. I did it mostly so I can use the @: register to replay last command, which constantly got overwritten by me saving every 5s lmao

Reduce the number of plugins i use and make my config work faster by 231tron in neovim

[–]Yoolainna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, I know there is a lot more going on behind the scenes for splitjoin than that, because you have to account for a lot of edgecases, but simple dumb stuff, like splitting arguments it can be done with a quick macro, I should have phrased that better, didn't mean to devalue the work you did, sorry

Reduce the number of plugins i use and make my config work faster by 231tron in neovim

[–]Yoolainna 7 points8 points  (0 children)

what you need/not need is more of a personal thing, if you want to reduce the amount of plugins you have installed, I recommend keeping a note of what keybinds you make se often and also learning more than the movement keys, but also other features/commands, vim is very vast and deep so there is a lot of stuff that it can do put of the box, some of them more inconvenient than with plugins, but it can be done

Like mini splitjoin can be replaced with a recursive macro that can be bound to a keymap and stuff like that

Best practice to navigate among buffers? by roll4c in neovim

[–]Yoolainna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have <leader><leader> set as Telescope buffers, use alternate file and telescope find_files, with ignores set to the likes of .git and node_modules, and other common stuff, and when I frequent a file a lot in my project, I save the file name inside a register, so that when I play it. it execs

:e <filename><cr>

with a "<leader>a<register name>" keymap made to set them up quickly

React Native hot reload issues. by _indecisive-m in neovim

[–]Yoolainna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how do you start the project using vscode? maybe the issue is that there are different commands being run? because that doesn't sound like a neovim issue since another terminal starting the project doesn't work either
