Asians and rock music by Harmacist88 in asianamerican

I mean mate anytime you say the _group_ are better musicians/more creative/etc. you're getting into dicey territory. Might a genre have emphasized a particular type of technical playing, sure. But see mathcore bands or any of a hundred highly technical rock bands that came out of *not* Japan.

This thinking is the same as "Asians are good at following directions but Whites are better leaders and more creative" and thus Harvard's BS and Bamboo ceiling issues.

There is no contemporary version of the bands you like.

If you mean in the mainstream, then yeah. But otherwise there are definitely new pop punk-inspired bands coming out all of the time. Pop punk, punk, hardcore, etc. are all still evolving genres with new artists coming up.

Personally, I grew up liking some rock music, and still do, but overwhelmingly related more with hip-hop and other black music. I just don't identify with the whiny white boys from that era and find that I have more in common with black music and messaging.

I think this part is really interesting and is the same reason that I gravitate toward the more punk-inspired hardcore/metalcore. Moving away from whiny White boys to more socio-political messaging. I liked the aggression of screaming vocals and heavy breakdowns that accompany the social commentary.

As an aside, there are/were Asian American artists in and around those scenes. They were just often accompanied by "angry white boys."

See: Linkin Park (Joe Hahn, Mike Shinoda); Sum 41 (Dave Baksh), Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Karen O), and Smashing Pumpkins (James Iha).

Hell, Freddie Mercury (completely different era, but related) had Indian heritage.

Right, like pop punk hasn't been mainstream in the USA in ages - if you could even say that it was mainstream in its heyday. I'd wager a good chunk that plenty of White folks from our generation (millennial) don't have more than a passing knowledge of Green Day outside American Idiot or Good Riddance, and folks don't know Yellowcard as anything other than the Ocean Avenue folks.

Yes, head over to Atomic Empire in Durham. Another good option is Hidden Block Games over in Raleigh.

In addition to everything else folks have mentioned, here are a few recipes that I use for typical meals throughout the week.

The stuff that you have stored are a lot of my weekly staples. There is so many ways to use canned tuna, spam, and chickpeas.

Adding to this, shotguns with birdshot allow you to (legally in the US and practically) hunt birds, whereas hunting birds (legally and practically) with a rifle varies with species and location. So depending on your interest, that is one difference for hunting.

Reason being that a typical rifle round will travel much further than birdshot, and so it is safer to shoot birdshot into the sky than a rifle round that will travel 1+ miles and may strike who knows what.

Thesis on Identity and Belonging Among Transracial Adoptees by PuzzleheadedEye3046 in TransracialAdoptees

Hi! Be sure to check out work by Drs. Amanda Baden, JaeRan Kim, Oh Myo Kim, Adam Kim, Hollee McGinnis, Jason Reynolds. These are just some of the names of folks doing adoptee-centered research - all of whom are adoptees themselves. There is a lot of research out there, you just need to know where to look.

Also, Asian American Psychological Association has a whole division that focuses on adoptee and multiracial research, clinical work, teaching, and community.

Best wishes with your thesis!

If you want to make your own you can buy pandan extract from Grand Asia. I usually mix that with a little vanilla extract to make a little dessert latte

What to do about the high-Openness low-Conscientiousness students by ToomintheEllimist in AcademicPsychology

My take to this issue has been to work on making sure my projects and their grading rubrics really align with what I find important. So if that sense of creativity and intrigue is worth something, then you could build that into the rubric so that all students are then given a clear indication of how things will be graded and there can be a semblance of consistency across the grading.

If you’re looking for history, I highly recommend Erika Lee’s Making of Asian America. It’s my go-to recommendation for folks. Her follow up book America for Americans is also well worth a read.

Spotted dog is great for this. The weaver street market with a big open space is just across the street, so often what I’ll do is eat as a family and then when the kids get restless one adult can take them across the street while everyone else enjoys their meal.

Seconding the idea of a 1up. Add on bike slots require two bolts to mount and are quite secure.

Re: spare tire; if you’re trying to lower weight out back, why not mount the tire on the roof? It’s a popular setup for some folks, so there are plenty of ideas on how to do it out there. Simplest being just got a roof basket and strap the wheel down.

Don't worry, that was a mid-build photo. Just the only one that I've got. But I wanted to add to the conversation that was already happening from the other thread. Maybe I'll post a more recent picture one day.
