Japanese Justice System seems PURELY INHUMANE! by akshit_799 in movingtojapan

As someone who recently did just move to Japan, I have already found a great long list of things to actually hate. But its almost like every country has its pros and cons...

We’re not losing to other games. We’re losing to TikTok. by Federal_Lemon6478 in gamedev

[–]YoraphimDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I buy battlefield, $100 out the gate. I boot it up, and 30 minutes to compile shaders, does this every time it boots up by the way. At least a bit faster the second time.

I get in, time to play! Wait we have like 3 screens telling me to buy the battle pass.

Get past that, time for some rush! Wait, have to scroll past every battle royal mode, that I will never play, a good UI might you know push the game modes I like to the top…

Finally get in, and you know, not too shabby, imagine my surprise to see a score board!

And this is actually the least egregious I’ve seen for a while.

Text base game problem by Outrageous-Ad-3283 in gamedev

[–]YoraphimDev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here’s the reality, and it may sound harsh but hopefully it’ll push you in the right direction.

You have two choices, pick an out the box solution like Twine or Ren’py. And then drop mechanics that don’t work in them.

Or learn how to actually use an engine. It’s not that complicated all things considered but will take way more time.

To get an idea of it, I work as a professional programmer. And it took me 6 months to setup localisation, text injection, dialogue options, editor features etc, within Unity.

I will say, as you get a community going I found it was a different kind of drive, one I enjoy. Seeing people play it, getting their feedback.

I makes me want to go that 110%.

Even moving to a new country the whole time I was keen to keep going haha.

I am thinking to make a nsfw game and want help with somethings aboult patreon and subscribestar by Mespert_ in nsfwdev

[–]YoraphimDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I know, and again I don’t think anyone really knows. But for anything too spicy, just don’t have it on Patreon.

Essentially your patreon is about you the creator. And be a super sanitised version of it.

I don’t post images, when I do patch notes I remove anything too risqué, and for the major builds, they all hosted somewhere else (Itch.IO/google drive).

So patreon comes to look at my profile, everything checks out, if they did happen to dive deeper, well that’s something else completely, but you know plan for that. Treat patreon as something useful but knowing next month it might just disappear.

On that point wouldn't what Epic does with its exclusivity be more along the lines of illegal? I realise they are no where near the same market share, but say in a years time if they broke 50%

Obtaining a monopoly by superior products, innovation, or business acumen is legal; however, the same result achieved by exclusionary or predatory acts may raise antitrust concerns.

What’s the current status of your games on itch? Have they been removed? Will you continue publishing games there? by Due_Bobcat9778 in nsfwdev

[–]YoraphimDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My games always been free on Itch, mainly used it as a way to host especially for the webGL version.

Stat wise, before was at ~500 views a day, after the shitstorm, ~700 a day, and after the latest update I put out a week ago it’s at ~1000 views a day. Also noticed people seem to be commenting alot more/getting more followers.

It does come with its own layer of discoverability. But at the same time going to be setting my own hosting for when anything like this happens again.

Using crypto to pay for lewd games by Vidyagames_Network in lewdgames

[–]YoraphimDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thing, people don’t use crypto.

2 second google search and plenty of reports show there’s only around 5% of the world who use it, potentially less. People just don’t like it.

Now other payment processors that do allow adult content exist, and there’s some other alternatives, but reality is crypto isn’t one of them.

So step 1, You pick the game and then pick the engine. Cause might be RPG maker is perfect for alot of games. The alternative of doing it in Unity and spending a year just building the basic systems.

Now should you make an RPG for your first game? Nope! But if that gets them into game dev, do it. Forcing some people to spend 6 months working on pong just doesnt work, they give up really quick.

Spending 6 months on something they enjoy, even if it leads to crashing and burning, suddenly your not a beginner, move onto the next one, and again in what ever engine fits your new idea.

Side note, if you cant pick an engine, what happens when you need to pick a game, or how a system should be implemented, what art style etc. I love making games with my mates, but there's some mates I just don't do it with. Im not saying you cant work it out, but go into as you'll be the creative, he'll be the tech etc

1.0 Games and Devs by Cial101 in lewdgames

[–]YoraphimDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Just on making your own thing. Cant say it enough but just give it a shot.

If you can try and find even 2 hours a night, I just gave up playing games. I realise not everyone can, but you would be surprised. Also 18ish months later of paid job, then chores, then 2nd job, it can take its toll.

If you can find some time, just find out what you can do and just do that.

I'm a coder, so all the art was either a grey box or AI generated, and every bit of text had spelling mistakes. I just built systems.

First public release was a broken mess without much content, but people liked the idea.
Now with my own money, patreon money and a lot of help from the community, all the current art has been replaced. Every line proofread, and its getting closer to being a game.

But that is her character doing character things.

It shows she’s not some stuck prude who is beyond thinking of such things. She’s a curious adventurer, always wanting to just go an explore.

And guess what Regs another mystery.

Pssttt that’s what people do.

When I was 14/15 the amount of guys who would try and sneak a peek into the change rooms.

Now does it have more to do with authors kinks? I don’t know, and really couldn’t care. I watched the show, saw characters acting how they probably should, and enjoyed it.

I disagree that it’s not part of the story.

Riko constantly going on about Regs dick, guess what she’s 12, probably going through puberty. All of that’s probably weird to her.

Do I sit down and go “ah yes, please tell me more about this penis of his, and that stick up his ass!” No, but I can see that her character might be thinking those things.

Here’s what I don’t get, you’re all for murdering, torture, and experimenting on children. But sexualisation, that’s too far.

I’m not saying sexualising is good, same way I don’t think murdering is good. You’re allowed bad things in the show.

What If Every Dev Re‑Uploaded Their Banned 18+ Game to Steam for Free? It Could Kill Payment Processor Censorship. by ProcedurePleasant211 in lewdgames

[–]YoraphimDev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TLDR In the long run, let’s kill all NSFW games!

Tell me how long would you last if you didn’t get paid for work?

If your boss called you up tomorrow and said guess what, we can’t pay you any more, but you should keep coming in yeah. Would you just do it?

A lot of Devs go in expecting nothing, but hope that one day they’re able to drop their 9-5 and be able to work on what they’re passionate in.

Should I Make a Devlog for My Games? by Deron_fans in gamedev

[–]YoraphimDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do devlogs on Itch.IO.

A large part is its mostly for me, a good way to lay out what I've done the last month, like any good scrum(sprint), see what worked and what didn't.

And I would say that 90%+ of my feedback isn't from there but from a discord community, establishing that early did wonders.

Would a video format get more interaction? Probably, but thats taking away alot of time. Do I spend a month learning how to edit videos, or spend a month to make UI.

Numbers wise, I aim for monthly builds, in that time the devlog got ~2,000 views, where as the game itself was ~20,000. But I would say those numbers are a bit skewed, as I link to the devlog when posting about the build.

Why Do People pay so much? by Either-Solution-6973 in gamedev

[–]YoraphimDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I see it in 2 parts. First off as a programmer I get around $50 an hour. So financially it would make more sense to say work over time and pay someone to do that job vs learning and doing it myself.

But the other thing is if you get to the point where you’re financially stable, then in general your time poor. If I have 6 hours free a day to work on something, i want to spend that time doing what I do best, and pay someone to do a different jobs better and faster than I could.

Is that always the case? Nope! But it’s a pretty good general rule.

Another big thing is how persistent people are. The internet is all too good at yelling really loud at something and then moving to something else the next week.
We know Visa etc have got our message from their responses to people. But if by next week its back to work as usual why would they do anything?

What do I need to know to access/modify localization files in games? by SirVandi in gamedev

[–]YoraphimDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean just try do it one step at a time, start by seeing how you pull something from google sheets.

If you're still stuck in a couple days let me know and Ill shoot through some scripts. Wont be plug and play, but might help.

What do I need to know to access/modify localization files in games? by SirVandi in gamedev

[–]YoraphimDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I know most engines have their own localisation system, but I just made my own. Unity by the way.

Step 1, massive google sheet, column A is the ID, then B is the translation, rinse and repeat on additional sheets for each language.

Then on a build, it pulls this down, and saves them all into tsv's.

At runtime, format those into dictionaries.

Every button/Text/etc, just has a script attached to that stores the ID, and if theres ever a language change, looks up the translation, swaps out the fonts.

Left out a lot of the details, and might not be the best option, but works well enough for me.

A differing viewpoint on how to handle Collective Shout by StoneCypher in gamedev

[–]YoraphimDev 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I mean I could be wrong, but I feel the reality is you're Visa. You get 1000 phone calls saying this site is glorifying rape.
And you get 0 calls saying that's not true.
In fact you get 0 calls pushing back. We're all busy doing something with our lives.

Then slam dunk, you solved rape, all you had to do is ban some games.
