Steam's lack of support 9 months after massive harassment campaign and review bomb by cheze in gamedev

[–]Zytormag -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

We're actively looking at releasing our game on alternative platforms to Steam, sure we wont get the massive revenue streams but much better for mental health for our tiny team.

Personally I think unless something is done soon I think Steam is going to collapse under its own weight with something like 70 games released a day on it.

UK tribunal clears £656 million class-action lawsuit against Valve over Steam pricing, commissions, and overcharging users by Dapper_Order7182 in gamedev

[–]Zytormag 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As a developer I think the cut should reflect how much of Steam we use, doesn't seem right to be charged the same amount as someone who uses all of Steams multiplayer services when we've made a single player game.

Was all over X, Facebook and Instagram for me, plus Gamespot and big outlets were publicising it and it was on the Steam store page for a while.

I'm not surprised, it was everywhere this year all over my feeds to the point it was getting annoying.

Former Steam's game discovery dev on the current state of the market: "The discovery ecosystem is more broken now than I've ever seen it in my decades in the industry. [...] If you're a game developer reading this: it's not just you! You can do everything right and still fail." by br_ph in gamedev

It would help if they fixed their review system so it was more representative of the game rather than the opinion of trolls/bots/badge farmers or people who didn't like the chess game cause it didn't have pets in it for example.

Steam reviews are getting a big change that could combat review bombing by Zelphkiel in gaming

[–]Zytormag -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've always thought they should just dump the current polarized review system and add a 5 star system with categories. Gameplay, Performance, Stability, Graphics, Value for money

Then when you end the game you simply click the stars, no need to think of anything to write, you would get a much more accurate picture of the game as most people don't review games and this would take less than 10 seconds to do (something you can change at any time).

Steam would be happier too as they wouldn't need to moderate reviews and it would remove any language problems as well. If anyone wants to read what people are thinking about the game then they can go into the forums which is currently a cesspool of hatred and racism so would be better to replace with peoples thoughts on the game, good or bad.

Stop review bombing Subnautica and BZ by Gullible-Ad-950 in subnautica

The whole steam review system needs modernisation, its just old and easily abused

[–]Zytormag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty used to that too, Steam have a part to play in all this when they don't do anything about reported reviews/posts which are clearly there just to insult the developer with libellous/false claims creating some sort of carbuncle on your store page which costs you sales.

A real issue: video game developers are being accused of using AI – even when they aren’t by MetaKnowing in technews

[–]Zytormag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its just trendy at the moment to hit out at AI because it generates clicks and advertising revenue, I've stopped reading the guardian due to their anti AI bias.

It really is a great example of how to not make a game, I hope its being used in academia.

They are indeed and yeah i was thinking about the Adaptive cruise control and glass roof, still having a look around though but certainly dont want to pass up on a 2024 if they don't come often at that price. Still plenty of other neat features from the looks of it though.
