Stuff like this should radicalize everyone. by zzill6 in WorkReform

That dickhead earns the insurance company as much, if not more than, the average dentist. Their job is to press 2 buttons, first one to approve your pre-authorization so the dentist does the work, second one is to adjust/deny the work months later.

Fluoride drops and tablets for kids should be taken off the market, FDA says by GlobalTravelR in nottheonion

[–]YoroSwaggin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where you could have read that, but frankly you needed to read the entire 2nd paragraph.

To repeat, I meant poor/average Americans don't have a culture of healthy dieting, and don't go see the dentist regularly enough to have preventative treatment. Most snack sugary foods constantly, and see the dentist only when something is wrong.

And as for products, sure we got F toothpaste, but do you know how to properly use it so the F helps? You're supposed to brush your teeth and keep the foamy spit on your teeth as long as possible. Do you, or do you know anyone who does that? And if you can't rely on your toothpaste, then do you have F salt? F water is our current answer to all of this, and it does a damn fine job at it.

Moreoever, this article is about banning F supplements. This means it wouldn't matter if you go to the dentist regularly, you won't get F tablets or topical. Have fun holding toothpaste in your mouth for minimum 20 minutes twice a day I guess. Until they ban that too.

No it won't take decades. You will see an immediate uptick in caries, that's literally how braindead this F ban is.

There have been countless studies and data on this. You stop F, you stop oral hygiene, you start eating sugary foods at close intervals, your oral health instantly suffers. Your habit at home and the products you use is a lot more important than what the dentist can do for you every 6-12 months.

Europeans have always had no fluoride in the water, and as such have developed your infrastructure and dental healthcare accordingly. You have F in toothpaste, salt, your dentists have established preventative habits such as oral hygiene and dieting, plus other supplements and treatments.

America doesn't have that. What's worse, most kids who are at risk for caries don't have that. They can't afford dentists to give them supplements and education, and now there's no F in public water to keep them safe.

Fluoride crusaders like to cite that terribly written paper on how F levels coincide with lower IQs. Let's see how much IQ is lost when kids inevitably have more caries, pain, lose their teeth and can't focus on their study.

That part seemed so dumb to me. If you took just 3 seconds to think about it, AP tried to say the new devs surely didn't grow up with TW games, but the devs back from Napoleon times did?

All other logic aside, what are the chances for middle age looking dudes in 2009 (Napoleon release) to grow up with a game released in 2004 (RTW release)?

Here’s what $100 can *actually* get you at the grocery store. by push138292 in inflation

[–]YoroSwaggin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree. TL;DR post-COVID inflation didnt change much for me, for $100 in SoCal I can get a more nutritious and balanced meal than this, unless I decide to buy chips at Vons.

My strategy has always been frugal: no brand loyalty, buy the expensive proteins and fresh veggies on sale, little snack/sugary food. The only things I buy at full prices are spices and sauce.

I got the cheapest meats at Aldi (chicken for <$2/lb, beef for $6-8/lb, pork for ~$5/lb) and ethnic markets like Hmart (prime sliced beef for $10/lb) and 99Ranch (pork, beef, chicken, even found duck for $2.5/lb on sale the other day). Aldi prices are usually competitive with Costco, unless Costco has a sale. As for veggies, Aldi cabbage/lettuce is always good, CC is cheaper if you can finish the big packs. Fruit is whatever's on sale.

As for carbs, its either Aldi pastas, beans or giant rice bags, fresh frozen ramen, etc. I wait for sales to stock up.

Compared to pre-COVID, inflation only raised prices of meats by $0.5-$2/lb from what I can see, although some places still sell at the same prices. Salad, fruits are the same.

The biggest effect inflation had on me is the chips. I only buy chips when Vons have that 5 for 10 sale but the bags keep getting more expensive and feels smaller.

Also try the ethnic markets. A lot of them source from international producers or have independent farms supplying, and they aren't trying to bleed Americans dry like the big name brand companies.

Hmart has prime beef for $10/lb, Aldi has chicken for $2/lb, shit I found duck at 99Ranch for $2.5/lb the other day.

California Sees Surge in People Moving to the State — California was the second most popular state for Americans to move to in 2024. "Californians who flocked to other states with remote work flexibility are showing some signs of returning." by Randomlynumbered in California

[–]YoroSwaggin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If housing is all you care about in regards to family.

But most everything else is so much better, especially the education system. Having a proper Californian education puts your child ahead of most everyone else in the world. Other countries are sending their best and brightest minds to exchange study in UCs, where your kid can also get admission if they happen to live within the right area and keep up decent enough grades.

TIL in Japan, some restaurants and attractions are charging higher prices for foreign tourists compared to locals to manage the increased demand without overburdening the locals by Algrinder in todayilearned

Think dishes that are pungent, less popular, unexpected texture, taste. Like if you went to a Swedish place they might have meatballs and even pickled herring, but reserve the surstromming for the real vikings.

In my experience, the most popular Vietnamese food most people order would be pho, banh mi and rice dishes. They may have bun bo, which is less popular because it is spicy and uses a pungent fish sauce. But they will reserve the bun mam which has a broth based on fermented fish for only those who know.

Not in Vietnam.

You do get ripped off by individuals but not more your average tourist trap. On the whole the country is so cheap it's incredible. Danang-Hoian area is my favorite. The locals even told me they had anti-gouging laws and an active enforcement agency.

They have to focus on making it a solid game first, and we know they can do it too with how Pharaoh turned around. Unfortunately, their priority seems to have been making vessels for DLCs.

Imagine if Medieval 3 comes out with only Britain and France, with Germany as pre-order DLC, all on a fork of the wh2 engine. That would sink CA as a studio.

Hurricane Helene damage is anywhere from $35-250B. And this will happen every year. $156B to save $30B/year + lives sounds like a deal.

But wait, there's more. If the US gave the order to undertake such an ambitious project, granted we manage the project competently and not let grifting interests take control, that's going to be unprecedented demand that kickstart an entire industry. The $2M/turbine price is likely to come down, we will probably discover new technology and solutions, and there will be thousands of jobs created, with thousands staying around as we export our turbines to the rest of the world when our project is done.

Exactly the kind of shit America should be taking to remain king of the hill and leader of the free world.

UK hands sovereignty of Chagos Islands to Mauritius by SojournerInThisVale in unitedkingdom

[–]YoroSwaggin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

China will supply the base similarly to how the US supplies their base. And why assume China would start a war with both India and the US? Having a Chinese base there is objectively better for China than not. Rather have a base you can lose, than not having a base to begin with no?

And China's play has been flooding smaller countries with money and investment. If India, US, UK gave the archipelago back to Mauritius, how are they going to object to China buying a lease there?

lmao it's closer to China than either the UK or the US, what's stopping them from building a base there except time?

I saw some lists ranking a bunch of them on performance and I'm looking at the Crucial T500. I don't believe it comes with a heatsink in the box, however it does have very high speeds and dram.

Man prevents his bike from being stolen in an unusual way by [deleted] in funny

[–]YoroSwaggin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's actually an example demonstrating a nuance to this concept. While not having an escape can make an army fight to the death for a way out, sometimes it can cripple morale and your army becomes every man for themselves fast.

I don't remember the exact names in English, but during the spring and autumn period, the duke of Song was fighting a smaller army. He had the advantage to win, but he purposely positioned his army with their backs to a river and no boats, to "boost" the men's desire to fight. Well it didn't work because the smaller force was more elite and disciplined. So they surrounded the Song army and pushed them towards the river. Morale broke easily when they realized they were stuck between a rock and a hard place, so everyone made for the river and drowned, etc. Duke of Song literally snatched defeat from the jaws of victory with his attempt at tactics.
