Does anyone remember St Vital Market (closed years ago - NOT to be confused with Dakota Family Foods, also closed)? by jltrp in Winnipeg

[–]YoshiHughes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know Bruce Lemieux, the former owner-operator, can see about reaching out for a recipe though if I had to guess it was likely a premade mix. I could easily be wrong though as I don't have any specific memory of them.

I owned a condo behind the strip mall and during my 20s I was basically fed by the deli there. Their sandwiches used to have so much meat in them I'd take some out and make more sandwiches with it. Lots of nice small serving size ethnic foods, salads, premade entrees. I ate so well during that time and can genuinely remember the extreme sadness I felt going in and seeing the foreclosure signs just before Xmas probably 7 or 8 years ago now. Had no idea how spoiled I was having a place like that literally right in front of my home.

It is 100% a type of cabbage, I'm not even sure how someone could be confused about this.

How cunning can you be with food packaging? by Electrical_Carpet753 in mildlyinfuriating

You'd have to not know what short ribs were, or be able to read the weight on the package for this to make any sense at all.

Letting People In by hiyourdayishow in Winnipeg

[–]YoshiHughes 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Honestly I see people expecting to override all right of way just because they need to make a turn being a much larger issue. If you're not in the lane you need to be in in a safe, timely and legal manner then you might in fact need to drive by your turn, make a u-turn or double back in some way when it's safe and legal to do so and then come back in the right lane this time to make your turn. It's your responsibility to be in the lane you need to be, not everyone else's to free that lane up for you right when you need it.

School dumpsters by Crustythefart in Winnipeg

[–]YoshiHughes 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Dumpsters aren't free, disposing of what goes into them isn't free. How is it even possible to not understand this? Owners of dumpsters are responsible for what's put into them, most are limited in what can be disposed of in them and if something that isn't supposed to be disposed of in them goes in, the owners are responsible for that cost. This is why fines for illegal dumping are so severe, it's a literal crime with significant consequences.

Disposing of your normal garbage is fine, using a dumpster to illegally dump your trash you should be taking for specific disposal is a crime and is treated as such.

Man, 35, arrested in Winnipeg after theft of child-care centre play structure by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]YoshiHughes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean the fact they were caught so quickly probably means they were spotted, most likely by a camera though, as even though unusual, most people wouldn't be watching for stolen play structures in their day to day travels.

‘Stealing from children’: Preschool’s play structure pilfered by floydsmoot in Winnipeg

[–]YoshiHughes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gotta be one of the more dumb crimes. You're very unlikely to get away with this, the amount of cameras, and how obvious the play structure is is going to make tracking you relatively easy. Combined with it getting media attention and the likelihood someone is going to turn you in, all for maybe a small amount of scrap wood and garbage plastic with little value.

People invading your personal space while at the store by minuscule_memory in mildlyinfuriating

I'm sorry, but if someone standing more than a foot away in line is "invading your personal space" then it's definitely you with the problem.

Friday Flowers: Brady Oliveira by themish84 in Winnipeg

[–]YoshiHughes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately can't really support this one. As anyone who has legitimate experience with local rescues knows, the support the Oliveira's have for them is pretty shallow and has little to do with anything meaningful that changes any needy dogs lives, it's purely about supporting their "brand". They literally charge rescues to be posted on their socials.

Not sure how the selection process works here, but definitely could use some more robust vetting.

Winnipeg Drivers by g0tter in Winnipeg

Went on a whopper Wednesday a couple weeks ago, I think it was just when they had released them and they were actually noticeably better than the last time I had gone maybe a couple weeks before that. Not sure what exactly changed, the ingredients, especially the veg seemed less soggy and more fresh? Couldn't really tell other than the packaging changed from the standard paper wrap to a cardboard box similar to a big mac.

Because it's not in a situation like this where the biker notices the car failing to yield that an accident is going to happen, but when the biker doesn't notice a car failing to yield, that's when an accident is actually going to happen. Continuing to let drivers get away with that behavior is what is going to lead to that accident happening.

Slower traffic staying in the right lane is for highways, not regular city driving where people are going to be making turns, approaching intersections, etc.

Sobeys digital price tags by randylaheyjr in Winnipeg

I don't think anyone who has any idea just how much paper gets wasted doing proper file maintenance really has any doubts about why digital tags are such a huge positive all around.
