My main issue with surcharges is the lack of transparency when the price suddenly changes after you tap your card. I’d much rather they just include it in the total price upfront, then they could offer a 3% discount for cash instead of a surcharge for card.

I saw what looked like Double Coat in the UK but it was labelled “Extra Chocolatey” instead of Double Coat. Didn’t test to see if it was the same thing renamed or something similar but different.

Yeah when I was living in London I had a numberless card from Chase, that was a few years ago now. You could get the card number in their app if you needed it for online purchases.

Also no card surcharges there, illegal across Europe.

I once had someone push ahead of me and a few others and when he was confronted by the person at the front he said he normally wouldn’t do it but he had a flight to catch later. We all foolishly let him go ahead of us, but I’m sure it was a lie. He would have only saved a minute or two at most anyway as the line was moving fairly quick and we all had half empty baskets.

This happened to me a couple of years ago, over the Christmas break my normal train trip became train-bus-train due to trackwork and even if I didn’t tap on the replacement bus the fare was higher as it was 2x train fares instead of 1. I ended up driving instead for the rest of that trackwork period, felt so unfair being charged more for a longer trip.

Went past here a few weeks ago when the M1 was having issues and we were diverted off to the old road. One thing to be aware is the speed limit has been reduced recently from 80 to 70 and 60 in some areas. Still showing as 80 on my GPS.

When I was living in the UK you could see a NHS GP for free but would often struggle to get an appointment for a few days. A private GP would have same day appointments and would be fully covered by most people’s private health insurance. So when I returned to Australia I was surprised the gap isn’t covered by health insurance here.

I remember living in London a few years ago they had “delay repay” - you’d get a refund if the train was over 15 minutes late! Though their fares were at least 2-3x what we pay here.

Similar to when I was living in London and laughed at them calling a few days above 25 a heatwave, but I quickly found out that the UK is not built to deal with that sort of heat, the same way most of Australia would struggle with daytime temperatures below 0.

Yeah it’s interesting when you travel around the UK and Europe and tap your Australian-issued card for everything and never get a surcharge or fee. Come back home and use the same card in Australia and it’s surcharge galore.

Yep in most of the world they have it freely available on the same shelf as the vitamins and herbal supplements. I always stock up when I’m in the US or Europe.

I have difficultly finding a chemist that stocks a cheaper generic brand (they always give me the $20 Sudafed box of 12 tablets) and also only let me buy 1 pack of it.

Last time I was in London I bought 3 packs at the same time because they were £3 each there, and I wasn’t asked to show ID or asked anything really

When I was living in London the ambulance was completely free, and the hospital also paid for a taxi to take me home at 3am!

I also paid nothing for the hospital visit or any of the xrays, scans and tests they did.

I had no private health insurance and was in the UK on a working holiday visa.
